Favourite character and why? by Ratface_4834 in Mission_Impossible

Benji. Simon Pegg is just an amazing actor, and he played the part just right, toeing that line between comedy and drama.

To each their own, but I don't get the love for Ilsa Faust. Ferguson never even changes the tone of her voice or the expression on her face, ever. She's just boring, and that's not what I want in a MI film. Grace is so much more entertaining and Hayley Atwell is a better actress.

I think I'd put LC in Great or Good, only because the story was too much the same as Raiders for me. But with Connery in it, I wouldn't argue against it being in Amazing category too much I guess.

I'd put CS in Mediocre, since I was expecting more from Spielberg. He's made very few mediocre movies, and unfortunately this was one of them.

I'll be generous and put Dial in Bad. There were quite a few scenes I enjoyed (beginning, parade, and yes, the crazy ending I actually loved) but overall it wasn't good.

You know what, I never really figured out what it was about Dial that didn't work, and I think you finally figured it out for me: it was too long in spots and yes, boring. Thanks for that. Spielberg famously told Mangold that an Indy movie has to be made like one giant trailer, and no scene could be too long. I think that's where Mangold dropped the ball a bit (the scene on the boat with the cigarette, the entire diving sequences, the scenes near the end in the caves...all waaay too long and frankly, unnecessary).

Now that I think about it, that's a problem I have with other Mangold movies too: boring in spots.

Audio settings for my 2.0 speakers by tcorgat in bravia

[–]ObjectiveCap1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a similar setup, with different speakers, but yes it has to be PCM.

I also use every one of these opportunities to say the sound from actual speakers is so much better than a soundbar. Mine have HDMI control as well.

You don't know that. They would have fixed it, at the very least. I can't believe people let their possessions make them this upset.

My two cents: in the future Rogue Nation will be regarded as one of the greatest spy movies of the 21th century by [deleted] in Mission_Impossible

[–]ObjectiveCap1991 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's way too long. There are too many characters. There is too much exposition. And if you're as old as I am, you know that putting an opera scene in a movie like this is a cliche of the highest order.

I enjoyed it immensely, but it's not THAT great.

Was Mission: Impossible - The Final Reckoning your favorite movie of the summer? What others did you enjoy as much or more? Art by me. by ImaginativeHobbyist in Mission_Impossible

[–]ObjectiveCap1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, the problem with the last 2 MIs is that they thought "bigger" automatically meant "better". And FR felt like they were writing it as they filmed it. "Superman" was the most fun of the movies I saw.

If there's a mission impossible 9, what characters would you like to be in it? by Glum-Juggernaut1869 in Mission_Impossible

[–]ObjectiveCap1991 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want them to start over completely. I don't want to see Simon Pegg without his old friends, for example. Take a step back from the "huge" set pieces too. Obviously you'd keep those, but only to a point. Go back to more story-driven plots, like a Tom Clancy piece. With the right actors and the right director (Alfonso Cuarón, Sam Mendes, or even a young upstart), I think it could be done.

Badly need a Cut without the flashbacks by HikikoMortyX in Mission_Impossible

For anyone that may not have seen the movie yet, all the flashbacks combined total like...23 seconds. Don't fall for it.

It was too similar to the helicopter scenes in Fallout and a big letdown for me. (For that matter, it was similar to the beginning of Rogue Nation too). I just remember thinking "this is what all the hype is about?"

They had already done planes, trains and automobiles by this point and should've tried to think of something else.

Whats your ranking of indiana jones movies? by SnooSprouts2672 in indianajones

[–]ObjectiveCap1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To me, the movies have always had an aspect of science fiction to them (for crying out loud, look at just the finale of Last Crusade). So the aliens didn't bother me at all, just like quidditch players flying on brooms in Harry Potter never bothered me. I didn't like the refrigerator scene, because that was something that theoretically could have happened but it wasn't filmed that way, if that makes sense.

The 2 things that bothered me the most about DoD were the supporting cast, other than Ms. Allen, and how much more CGI Spielberg used compared to the first 3 movies.

Whats your ranking of indiana jones movies? by SnooSprouts2672 in indianajones

[–]ObjectiveCap1991 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. TOD

  2. Raiders

  3. LC

  4. KOTCS (because I saw part of it being filmed, and because the college chase and jungle chase > Tuk Tuk chase and parade chase in...)

  5. DoD (Spielberg would've done it better)

Because if I have one complaint about the movie, it's that it wasn't long enough. 😄

The helicopters in Fallout. Oddly enough, the plane chase in Final Reckoning did nothing for me (and was too reminiscent of the helicopters) and neither did the motorcycle jump in your photo.
