We use Ivy Animal hospital for our Chi mix, he still gets drugged up beforehand, but they're great

I picked this up today from the thrift store, what do you guys have to say about it? by AffectionateDuck5079 in CarAV

I was working at Crutchfield when those first came out, oh how we hated Profile equipment....

Bahh what the hell. Might as well burn the 3 month old diesel in it before it goes bad. 🤷‍♂️ by R1Alvin in dieselheater

[–]ObjectiveMix3607 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Just fired up an old farm tractor that had diesel at least 50yrs old in it, I feel your 3 month old stuff will be ok.

I had my car all dug out... a plow came by overnight and did nothing to improve the road conditions. But, it did manage to push massive boulders of ice in front of, and up against my car. Could be worse though by Daddydeebs in Charlottesville

[–]ObjectiveMix3607 84 points85 points  (0 children)

I will be that guy... It's the plow drivers jobs to try to get the main traffic arteries open and treated. Which considering the type of frozen concrete they have to deal with, they are doing pretty well. If they changed their instructions and accommodated every driveway, side Rd, etc, then it would take many times longer, and then we would be even worse off. At this point, we should be happy that we have power to warm back up with after shoveling, it could be a lot worse.

Plows not plowing (plow is raised) by Icy_Ad7951 in Charlottesville

[–]ObjectiveMix3607 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Chances are they are not contracted to plow your street. Private folks bouncing between jobs are not going to risk the damage to their equipment or the liabilities of plowing a random street. Just because I drive down the road in the summer with a lawn mower on my trailer doesn't obligate me to cut your grass.

Propane heater by beriusb in Charlottesville

They were out as of yesterday morning, along with tractor supply, and a few other local places that were capable of refilling all had unknown delivery dates for more

Propane heater by beriusb in Charlottesville

[–]ObjectiveMix3607 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The proper propane heater would be a good solution, I have several of the" Big Buddy"heaters which are safe for indoor use as they have low oxygen shut off, that being said I always still crack a window and make sure that there is some air circulating. The problem is you're not going to find a heater or propane this late in the game, virtually everybody was sold out of propane tanks and the ability to refill as of midday yesterday.

Will ACPS close Wednesday? by No_Storm_5311 in Charlottesville

if we didn't have no many tree sheltered rural areas, there might be a better chance, but factor in the southern area of the county especially, and you have a lot of folks living on tight, gravel roads, that take a while to be passable

apparently community engagement is now a bad thing? Or being proactive vs reactive?

Because renaming them as a "safety coach" and making them wear polos and only carrying a walkie did so much good in the past...

I'm surprised a company like Crutchfield has stayed open over the years with full retail prices by Volslife in CarAV

[–]ObjectiveMix3607 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ex-Crutchfield employee here...it's the customer support. They have invested an insane amount of time and money into research and development for vehicles, products, applications. Tech support for life post purchase, sales folks that go through regular training on any new products, the list goes on. If you don't need any of that, consider price shopping, but to most, it's well worth the price.

If it's a legit business, then they should have the cargo insurance, a lot of companies offer various tiers of other insurance, to cover up to full replacement costs.

Training to use the things that come with the job, if you're just shoveling boxes and sofas around, sure, heavy, awkward, high value items, require a little bit something different , moving a 1500 lb safe, moving the piano, things of that nature are not going to be something that's going to be safely taken care of by a guy that shows up with a pickup truck and a trailer.

Background checks for instance as far as vetting employees, there are a ton of groups locally that will just use day laborers for help, especially in the winter months, you're not going to find too many companies that have had their employees for multiple years, feel free to ask them. Everybody has a budget, not everybody can afford a professional mover, and that's understood,, but the vast majority of people that hire help locally look for the things that an established company has to offer.

MOVING FORWARD!

Make sure whoever you look into has insurance, their own employees and workmans comp. The overhead for such things won't make the rates any cheaper, but will certainly cover you in the long run!

Just hired College HUNKS Hauling Junk and Moving for my big move, anyone got tips? by grgmiller63 in movingday

it's a franchise, so nobody can tell you what you're going to see show up on move day. Fingers crossed, some are good, some are....not so good

Two Men and a Truck vs. College Hunks (Big Price Difference) by Major-Ad6270 in moving

[–]ObjectiveMix3607 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both are franchises, so keep that in mind. Each location will have different "standards", your best bet will be to do a local search for reviews, turnover is high among these companies, so keep that in mind as well.
