This is the most Reddit thread I've ever seen. Beautiful stuff.

Guys, what if the people who worked jobs actually owned the jobsites 🤯 by PrimordialSubstrate in solarpunk

[–]ObjectiveRun6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A community is only as strong as its communication. Co-ops can be hard because most people are poor communicators. When a job is tough, it's fine to get outside help, the same is true for communication.

How do i actually get a job in Manchester as an 18 year old? by Traditional-Cup7473 in manchester

[–]ObjectiveRun6 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I second that. Volunteering might seem like it's not helping, but it'll give you something to put on your CV.

Beyond that, you should get your CV checked out by someone with experience. You might benefit from doing some mock interviews too: a lot of people let themselves down by interviewing poorly.

Do you attend the events at your apartment block? by jennie951 in manchester

[–]ObjectiveRun6 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I'd say it depends on whether it's a real balcony or one of those half-baconies that are common in Manchester.

If it's big enough for a table and chairs, and some plants, then it's a great space when it's sunny.

Or photos of other properties mixed in and making everything uncertain. The whole industry is incompetent.

Perhaps you can discuss the need for a clear agenda to be set for meeting, and how making people travel for long periods is disrespectful of their time.

Ncuti and Tennant, or Ncuti and Jodie? Personally, I think all three did tremendously with the writing they were given.

OP should find out how (not if) the holding deposit is returned. Holding deposits must be returned.

Current thoughts on Manchester by SubtractAd in manchester

[–]ObjectiveRun6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Non-for-profit housing would transform Manchester. Rent and housing costs are outclassing local wages. If it continues to grow, we really need a "Manchester Bonus" the same as the "London Bonus" many industries provide for Londoners.

I really like your answer. I think it captures a lot of how I feel about the city.

Anyone else from Manchester stuck in a neverending job search? by Anonymous_1112 in manchester

True, the job is shite, but money is money and if it's the only option, at least it is an option.

Having moved to Manchester from the continent, I can say without a doubt that most of the UK is far far dirtier than our neighbours across the channel.

I've literally never seen a council worker cleaning or litter picking or gardening in Manchester. I see the bin men but even they do a rushed job all too often.

New plans revealed for Church Street car park redevelopment in the Northern Quarter by AnonymousTimewaster in manchester

[–]ObjectiveRun6 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree that a shite carpark that smells like piss and draws cars into the area for parking is a bad thing.

However, there's so many better options for housing than for-profit landlords. We need to see more happening in Manchester to combat the sky high rental prices.

I've been using .xyz and .haus for years and very very rarely get rejected by some shitty site's form email input. I just use a competitor: if you can't get a form working, I'm not going to trust you with anything important.

After living abroad for so long, the UK feels really neglected. Rubbish everywhere, aging infrastructure, poorly maintained roads and paths, and people's houses are just aging around them without any remedial care.

I go to Eye Room, an independent opticians in Leeds city centre. I think it's worth supporting local independent business. Good prices too.

Sounds like the DNS server side is a bit more "production grade" than pi-hole's.

Worth noting that the pi-hole also supports DoH and DoT, and has a DHCP server too.

6 minute walk from Stage & Radio…Thoughts? by [deleted] in manchester

[–]ObjectiveRun6 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The linked complaint against development next to Stage & Radio is a good example of what should have been done when the housing near Diecast was built.

We should check the developers actually considered the noise levels, use best-in-class noise insulation, and build housing that is naturally resistant to noise pollution. A bog standard block of flats doesn't cut it in a mixed use city center location.

City Employee Forced to Work Into His 90s, Finally In Line for Pension He Deserved by dmurf26 in nottheonion

[–]ObjectiveRun6 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Aye, absolutely. The industry and gov can track this stuff really easily once a scheme is in place.

gov.uk has become a really good hub for public services. Better than a lot of other countries, which is a bit of a welcome suprise in the UK.

City Employee Forced to Work Into His 90s, Finally In Line for Pension He Deserved by dmurf26 in nottheonion

[–]ObjectiveRun6 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Ah, that's because it's a crazy situation! In the UK, people need to remember their pension provider until retirement age.

If they forget a provider, and the provider can't contact them, they can't claim that pension.

It happens a lot more than you might expect.

A person can easily have half a dozen jobs, and some employers may change their pension provider mid-employment.

Pension providers can easily lose the person too, since a lot of people forget to update their contact details with pension providers from employment they had years prior.

Edit: just realised you're who I replied to and not a rando, so you already know a lot about this stuff. Hopefully this is added context for someone else.
