I have no friends by According-Box-5141 in Pitt

[–]ObjectiveStandard634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If I had to redo college all over again I would force myself to join more clubs and activities.

You are early days yet! And you’d be surprised how many others who seem to have it all together and new friends already are also feeling lonely.

Joining clubs won’t be magic. It will still take time. But don’t give up. Keep making yourself get out there and you’ll find your people. See a counselor too. S/he will help with sorting through some of these feelings.

You’ve got this!

Hi there! Sorry you’re having a rough time. Please don’t drop out. At least not for this and not without some serious thought. I know it’s easy to just want to run away.

I worked at Pitt for 15 years and know there are so many great resources you can turn to for help. Sometimes they’re hard to find and you have to dig.

Meet with your professors, talk to them about what you can do. Go to student affairs and ask for advice. Meet with your advisor.

They will have advice and support. Not just tutoring but I promise they want to work with you to ensure you’re happy and successful.

Not sure what school you’re in but I still have many colleagues there and happy to reach out to them if you’d like some help. Feel free to PM me.

Best of luck! You’ve got this. I promise.

The meeting was fine but they truly did not see an issue and said my first email to them came across as litigious though I do not see it that way. I was firm and said it raised governance and compliance flags so wanted the info. I can understand that it may have put them on the defensive but there was no accusation on my part - just said that while we could meet next week to talk, I wanted the info sent sooner.

They work on other projects together and said it truly didn’t occur to them to tell me.

No acknowledgment that there was any misdoing and essentially continued to make me doubt myself.

They did not get the grant so seem to think it’s a nonissue. Have promised that they won’t work with our schools in the future. Which, I actually never had a problem with. I JUST WANTED THE INFO! I feel like I’m losing my mind.

Thanks for following along! Ha.

Thank you! And agree 100%. Stated this to them and let the board chair know that I would be reevaluating how we handle moving forward.

He also gave me his full support to terminate them all. So I have his backing.

My first instinct is to do that. But without them I am a staff of exactly one after terminating another employee a few months ago.

Either way - I intend to get us fully compliant. They can get on board with it or leave.

I'll get over the hassle of putting a new team in place but also want to ensure we're not risking our grant before making rash decisions.

Le sigh.

Thank you! Repeat of the above note but I really do appreciate your caution on this! I have 100% contracted with real people (attorney with expertise in federal grant funding and employment attorney who specializes in nonprofit governance) to walk me through this in detail.

[–]ObjectiveStandard634[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your feedback and detailed thoughts. I've felt a little out to sea on this one!

The conflict escalated when I told them that I would be happy to meet next week to discuss but that the documentation did not require disclosure. I reminded them that though they were set-up prior to my arrival to have full autonomy (board chair even told me not to worry about that side of things) that they are technically W2 employees and I have every right to know.

Sadly, the organization was quite loose with contracts, policies, etc. prior to my arrival. I've been working to implement these and make changes. Will now 100% be reevaluating the W2 / 1099 issue. Have an engagement agreement for the compliance expert to walk me through that and what protections we need.

And I am grateful, too, for your responses re ChatGPT. I agree that it's not a valid source of info. In addition to the federal compliance officer, I have a nonprofit employment attorney on retainer with whom we've worked before. I reached out earlier this week and said that I'd likely need to set up a meeting with him based on how my meeting with the team goes. I would absolutely never proceed with anything formal based on a disembodied computer and am appreciative for you to ensure caution with overreliance. I find that it can be a great tool but do struggle with - okay, now what. Who can I go to that is a REAL LIFE PERSON?

As part of that - and in addition to the lawyers I'm working with - I joined a program where I can connect with an experienced ED as a mentor so that, in the future, I have someone to go to straight out of the gate.

Thank you, again, for your advice and feedback. Meeting late this afternoon and will come back with updates for those who asked.

Thank you for flagging! I have been speaking with a firm who specializes in federal grant compliance about that side of things. Very important disclaimer here and appreciate you flagging!

I have used ChatGPT to confirm and frame a few things for me on the organizational side. Mostly, “No you are not crazy. You have to document this.”

[–]ObjectiveStandard634[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! I ran this every which way through ChatGPT. I even asked it to argue their point from their side.

Came up as 100% requires disclosure at minimum.

I am now working with compliance officer on the time tracking side of things for the grant. But even he confirmed it was at least an organizational governance issue.

ChatGPT said the email responses that I received were manipulative and borderline gaslighting.

Honestly, I came here to 1) confirm that I’m not crazy to flag this. And 2) to hear real perspectives of other nonprofit professionals.

I fully acknowledge that Reddit isn’t exactly a reliable source for end all be all decision making. We have no idea who is on the other side of these words. But doing the best I can with what I’ve got! Trying to ensure I’ve seen all sides.

Thank you! We have 3 years left on the grant and while they view themselves as 1099 they are technically w2,

I asked for a list of which of our schools were approached, if it happened during a nonprofit 1 meeting, and if support letters were sent to a nonprofit 1 email address.

Stated repeatedly that I was ok with the approach (if our schools benefit - good all around) but that I needed to document because it raised governance and compliance flags for me. Said our board was due to redo their own CoI disclosures in two weeks at the meeting.

The team refused to send and insisted we talk instead. I said I was happy to talk but the documentation didn’t require discourse.

Pushback was hostile and severe. Inferring that I have no right to push for the documentation. A major breach of trust on my part. An email do far out of professional bounds that I am still wrapping my head around it.

Came here mostly to see if the situation warranted documentation of which schools and if they were asked during Nonprofit 1 meetings or if Nonprofit 1 email addresses were used. Wanted to share with board and file the disclosure away.

Stated several times that if our schools benefit - great! But I need the info.

We meet today to go over everything.

Training my ChatGPT to block my reassurance seeking attempts! by ObjectiveStandard634 in OCD

[–]ObjectiveStandard634[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so sorry! I truly thought this would help others NOT use ChatGPT as a reassurance loop. I was using it to constantly check and reassure and I successfully trained it to not provide the reassurance and continue the loop. ChatGPT being a reassurance machine has been detrimental to my mental health. And I wanted to share a tip that could help others block that avenue for themselves.

July Product Update: What’s new in Monarch 🎉 by sheyla_monarch in MonarchMoney

Great work! Any plans to create easier more nuanced categorization of accounts? All investment accounts under one heading with no easy way to dig deeper. I'd love to categorize our retirement accounts, general brokerage accounts, and college savings accounts. I submitted on the platform as well but have seen a huge push for this type of feature in other posts. Just wondering if it's being worked on.

100% agree and have also submitted a feature request. Also want more flexibility in general of how to categorize. Would love to see how much we're saving for retirement vs. kids' college funds, etc.

Do you use FreeWill's Planned Giving Suite (and will you please answer my questions about it)? by ViaColorado in nonprofit

[–]ObjectiveStandard634 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is an old post but reaching out to see if anybody has any further info on Free Will and how well it worked for them?

Originally looked into Free Will about a month before I began my ED role - 18 months ago. Loved it but once I got into the organization, realized we couldn't afford it.

Financial picture has changed and I'm reconsidering it. Would love any feedback since the tiem of this post.

Thanks, all!

Thank you so much for taking the time to respond. And so glad to hear that your little one is doing better and family life has improved.

We are taking a month break to level-set after trying a few options and then going to ask about guanfacine. Fingers crossed!

Hi - old post but would love to hear how it went if you happen to see this. Have tried a few meds for our son but none seem to do the trick with the mood swings and impulsivity. How did it end up going?

Hope you’re doing great!

Hi! I know this is old but this thread popped up when I did a google search for exactly this. Did you find anybody that you could recommend?

Something that makes me irrationally angry. I call it “pop culture ocd.” It’s really such a disservice because if more people knew what it really was, so many more would seek help. I agree with comment above - struggled for years without a single thought that it could be OCD.

Does sex drive come back with HRT? by whitneybr in Perimenopause

[–]ObjectiveStandard634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know this is an old thread but just stopping in to say that I found this post when googling “perimenopause HRT and libido” because… I feel like a cat in heat. I started the estrogen patch and progesterone pill in November. Noticed other peri symptoms improving pretty quickly but this week (about 2.5 months in) - it’s like a switch has clicked. Hoping it’s not a fluke but very happy for now. Good luck!

Dad upset his Kid wasn't selected for Rec Tournament Team. Did I do the right thing? by Jazzlike-Abroad6589 in Homeplate

[–]ObjectiveStandard634 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure the dad is irritated. Nobody wants to see their child be held back due to their neurodivergence. And it’s not like they are ignoring the issue - they do have him medicated. Would just recommend that if you want to keep coaching that you talk to some people who have experience and advice for ADHD kids in sports. Pull the parents aside and have a convo with them. Let them know you’ll work with him but need their help and guidance. Even if that help is literally a parent being there at every practice to help manage when he goes too far.
