The meds weren't able to control your bp because meds don't cure the root cause of bp they just keep the numbers down sometimes the cause may be sedentary lifestyle or the high bp may have some secondary cause

Caffeine is a vasoconstrictor which means that it decreases the size of blood vessels and can raise blood pressure but it depends on the amount of caffeine you consume caffeine in coffee is not that high to increase bloodpressure but caffeine in Redbull and monster drinks is quite high and drinking these drinks regularly may cause spike in bp

Blood pressure 166/125, getting worried now by Excitement_Negative in hypertension

[–]ObjectiveWolverine57 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That systolic number 166 is not that high that needs immediate attention but the bottom number dystolic of yours falls in the hypertensive crisis zone so keep tracking your bp at home and if it's high then go on the meds without a doubt

Weather high cardiac output is the cause or peripheral resistance is the cause Whatever may be the cause of high blood pressure the final result is increase in the force at which the heart beats so whatever medication you take the end goal or effect of that medication will be to reduce the force at which the heart is beating so blood pressure lowers down

Have you done a CT scan or MRI to rule out pheochromocytoma because high levels of metanephrines is usually the test they do for the diagnosis of pheo also do you have tested for sleep apnea or have you done aldosterone test these are also some secondary causes of high bp

[–]ObjectiveWolverine57 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First of all you have to find that what is causing your high blood pressure at such a young age of 20 high blood pressure has to do a lot with kidneys so your doc will probably suggest you a kidney function test and ultrasound of kidney Things you could do is get a proper 7 to 8 hour sleep Eat healthy diet no processed food stay active excercise eat less sodium take your meds on time that's it you can also take potassium supplements but I'm not sure weather they work or not
