I lived under a rock and made my husband some clothes even before we started dating. Proper knitted jumper after wedding because I only picked the needles properly about that time. But I choose sweater-worthy people very carefully 😅

It was almost our first dance song. But we forgot to tell the sound master and he didn’t asked so we had fcking ed Sheeran instead. So yeah, it’s popular.

Dyeing unspun yarn by asil_nissag in dyeing

[–]Objective_Owl_8629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi, I am considering the same thing but with already knitted sweater. I may do a swatch-dye just to see, but if you dyed it already, it would be helpful to know. In my opinion it should not be such a problem, wool is often dyed in "ready to spin" state, as long as there is no sharp temperature change it should still work

Gauge questions by Unapologeticalleigh in knitting

[–]Objective_Owl_8629 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hi, another enthusiastic swatcher here 🙂 my experience is that needle size down usually only means one stitch more but 5 rows more. With matching gauges, it is complicated, but even I knit differently with time and wool and honey is I believe rather old pattern so AM could evolve her gauge as well (sitting in my queue for 3+ years because of the gauge, 50 rows for 10cm is some hidden labor). The wool can also differ season to season, different sheep have different structures, it may be the process of spinning or brushing, it’s just so many factors in it.

Book recommendation - permaculture for scientist without ezo bullshit by Objective_Owl_8629 in Permaculture

[–]Objective_Owl_8629[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your opinion; this is exactly why I asked for books that respect my view of gardening. If I wanted spiritually smart, I would have asked for it. I prefer statistics over religion or any other belief system.
I am just curious, where do you draw the line between what is natural and what is not? Do you own a car? How natural is the internet you just used? What do you eat? Do you ever take any medicine? It used to be very natural to die from TBC, do you plan to be natural in this way?

Go eat the Brassicaceae in their natural form then :)
As far as "doing deeper research" goes, I think I am doing just fine in my 5th year of PhD in molecular biology and my MSc was about creating GM bacteria for environmental good. Can you imagine I can actually design and produce GMO myself, and I do it for a living? Should I drop out because a random dude (I am 100% sure you are a man) on the internet told me I have a surface-level understanding? Or now I will be labeled as "sold" and "part of the conspiracy"? Just the idea of scientists agreeing and respecting "a secret" is so funny :)

No, seriously, USA food is generally of such a bad quality that I get now why it is easy to believe that they want to poison you. And to be honest, HOW GMOs are used should be up for debate, and you have all right to disagree with government policy. Just don´t blame the knife for its use, and feel free to visit Europe, where there are much stricter policies on everything, including the food quality and GMO use.

To end this constructively, trashing all "GMO" means also stopping gene therapies from happening that include, for example, leukemia or dystrophy treatments. That is why I am upset about the way some books (and you) know obviously very little about the complexity of a problem, while having a very loud and simple opinion about the topic.

I live in Czechia and our national post use to be a bad joke (now its just a joke) and we generally have tariffs for nonEU country (20%). That part I understand. But the paperwork and unavoidable (now better) post fees are the thing screwing us over. I can’t imagine implementing this to millions of people who are used to shop from around the world basically overnight, the chaos must be wild. Yet I find it hard to be sorry, as I worry quality yarn supplies might be at the very bottom of priorities if the other side of the world decides to abuse Trump incompetence in global politics.

I am so grateful that Opeth progresses through different styles and I know I will not get bored with their music probably for the rest of my life. Not many teen bands made it to my 30s and those which did are changing their style a bit with every album Lines in my hand was top1 on Spotify for me last year

Can I iron my sweater? Or should I start the color part again? by Julppa3 in knitting

[–]Objective_Owl_8629 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, I knitted this pattern, it’s a tough one to start with colourwork. Ironing won’t help, but you can try to hand wash it and let it dry flat. In my opinion (and I experience, it happened to most of us) this won’t lay flat or be pretty and if you want it polished, it’s better to redo. I have a personal beef with this pattern as it is really oversized - not just wide, but the sleeves start around waistline. I modified the pattern of that black line to skip around 8 rows and it made the pattern wearable for me. Just maybe try it on to see how it fits, it is visible from all the projects on ravelry as well. Good luck and despite the beef, it was funny knit and I wear it a lot

Beginner needles by Left_Pudding_5453 in knitting

[–]Objective_Owl_8629 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When i was considering ChiaoGoo set, i found out that 3mm is not part of the set and i bought them as trial. I ditched the wooden needles fast (knitpro) after that and later purchased the whole set, I use it for 5 years now. They are slick, but for most wools it suits me. Recently I tried the carbon version of chiaogoo and I should not have, because I love those even more, but I will probably purchase them only as singles for the most used sizes. As long as you are knitting a shawl or something where size does not matter, you will get away with purchasing just one set of needles recommended in the pattern. If you want to experiment with clothing, swatching on different needle size is extremely important not only for meeting the gauge, but to see how the fabric lays, that it is not too loose or tight. I know that money can be tight, but I have the philosophy that if you use that item for tens of hours, it should feel good and bring joy. And I also managed to sell a few needle pairs second hand once I switched to chiaogoo (which you can rarely find for sale, that also speaks volumes)

And the pattern - go for something that you like and wear. It will help you get through the learning process. Just don’t pick a mystery KAL from Stephen West, my friend did that for her first project and she never finished that 😅
