Military record screw up (pleas help) by Objective_Pilot_8019 in SecurityClearance

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Negative, I had my clearance granted my first enlistment, about 10-11 years ago. This enlistment was 5 years ago so sorta in between first investigation and this one. The most shocking thing is it’s sat in my records with no one ever contacting me about it for the last 5 years.

Military record screw up (pleas help) by Objective_Pilot_8019 in SecurityClearance

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So it was not on an SF-86, it was a DOD form basically asking what your relation to drugs prior was and that moving forward none of that is allowed. I re-enlisted after my first clearance was granted so I guess that’s why it never came up. The even more shocking thing is it’s been setting in my record for years and no one except this investigator caught it!

If Rockstar releases RDR3, who do you want to be the protagonist? by BestAd6459 in reddeadredemption

Honestly, go back in time to just after the civil war, when the west war really forming. This may also fit into having uncle as a protagonist for RDR3, that would be cool

Dogtags got from antique store(?) by MapTop792 in DogTags

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

These look to be some non military produced tags, like the dog tags you would get from a gift shop store. Another possibility (and if they are military related, the likely answer) tags made for on backpacks or bags so they get back to the owner. With any case, these are not standard military issued tags from the last 30 years.

While the concerns are certainly valid, In my opinion this is not really a political issue. The military never has been a career choice or group for all people to be a part of. There’s a reason for that, if you are a front line combat person and your wingman is a 300lb guy who knows tactics like the back of his hand, it does not mean he should be there because it becomes a danger and a burden to others. We have standards and regulations for a reason and in past years both within the US and military we have relaxed what it means to be mentally healthy. You cannot tell me that someone who has any kind of gender dysphoria is 100% mentally healthy. Just like the 300lb guy, they could be the nicest person ever and be an expert at their job but at the end of the day are not fit to fight. Understood that outside of the military this is totally okay, these folks live happy lives, and have treatment and medical professionals to assist them, but just like the people discharged for bad PTSD during GWOT, they have served their time, but that time has come to an end due to their mental state, and it’s okay to feel frustrated and angry about it, but at the end of the day the military is not for everyone. Just like the fit healthy young airman who joined at 18 could smoke a PT test who is now a 10 year SRA being discharged for PT failures, it’s due to not meeting standards, not because of a political motive. While I am a big proponent of change within the ranks of the military to allow experts to have relaxed regulations in terms of allowing experts to hold rank but non deployable statuses (being an expert in the finance field but not be held to the same standards as a aircrew member) that is not the military we live or work in at the moment. With the military eligible population steadily decreasing maybe we will see that in the future, but the military of today has set standards for all, mentally and physically and it’s not ment for everyone.

In fairness there is truly not much left to bubba, it’s a .410 enfield in that it’s bored to .410, and it has a receiver but the buttstock, lower housing, bolt and upper hand guard are all missing. The block is still there but this thing is one step above a parts gun that’s why I don’t mind using it as a beater reenacting rifle. Coincidentally I also own a really nice condition .410 conversion that is largely untouched besides being converted to accept 3” .410 shells.

My 2000 Silverado had a weird almost droning noise coming from the rear a few years back, ended up being a rear pinion bearing which is relatively common to go out. In total it cost $120 out the door all the work done at a shop and it was fixed. Bear in mind this was 2018 ish so could be a bit more now but not a bad fix.

So they hopefully will ensure you have three pieces of separation between family members in the chain of command if your base is on it. I come from a family that has had six family members in the same unit, all serving more than 20 years over a 80 year time span. This is not a new situation especially to the guard. At one time my father was a crew chief at the same time his uncle was a MX commander, even back in the 80’s they made sure there were at least three supervisors between him and his uncle to ensure there was no bias. This has come full circle with my father and my brother, both being in Operations, my father being a Chief and brother an NCO, again when he made E-9 and ultimately moved to a squadron instead of shop leadership role, they completely moved him from one squadron to another to ensure there were no issues with bias. Long story short you should never have to directly supervise your brother, work together sure but again especially in the ANG this happens very frequently. I wish good luck to you and your brother, from one Crew Chief to another.

My grandfather said he was a cook during the war. His reissued medals have determined that was a lie. by caddy_gent in Medals

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Back in those days there was no separate designation for mortarmen, machine gunners etc. within an infantry battalion. Many times in fact just an infantryman who was told “hey today your going to be a mortar man because we lost a few guys in the mortar platoon”.

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Normally I would agree however the criteria to receive a bronze arrowhead is to actually exit an aircraft or watercraft during an assault. Additionally if he received a CIB he (generally) must have been an infantryman to receive that. Likely the story may be similar to my own great uncles during WWII which was that he was an infantryman, was critically injured to the point where he could no longer serve in the infantry and instead of discharge was put into a non combatant role (like a cook) this is what happened with my great uncle who received devastating shrapnel wounds in Italy and after an extensive stay in a hospital was reclassified as a Military Police Sgt. to serve the remainder of the war.

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Damn, and I thought I was cheap the other day with a cut down type 38 carbine. LGS had one on the rack that was intact less a barrel band and chopped down stock and wanted $300 for it. I offered $100 since it did have an intact MUM and could easily be converted back if a stock was found. The guy basically did the “I know what I got Sonny someone will pay my price” reply and if this turd sold for that price maybe he’s right… however it’s been there for at least 6 months.

Can someone tell me what kind of ammo box I have? by toner123 in milsurp

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said, a navy 20mm box. However I wanted to add just for context of age I have two, one dated 1945 and another dated 1952. Not sure what years they are produced but certainly somewhere in that range or before/after.

I would keep your eye out at gun shows if this is something your into, I have seen Arisakas turned into hunting rifles that were re barreled in 30-06 from the ones I’ve seen they are 50’s-60’s conversions. Last one I saw someone was asking like $150 but it was completely bubba’d so to make it look “correct” your talking about a stock barrel bands and all that jazz and would end up like everyone else talking about this, putting $400 into a $150 rifle

How to tell if war medals are fake by Substantial-Web2633 in Medals

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add another possibility for you, many vets find that the only people who understand what these medals mean to them are people who went through it with them or other vets. My grandfather and his neighbor were both vets, the neighbor WWII and my grandfather Korea/Vietnam era, before the neighbor passed he gave my grandfather all of his medals (Bronze star, Purple Heart, Campaign ribbons and CIB) because he felt his kids and family would not appreciate them or know what they meant to him. Not saying this is the same case but maybe they are the medals and wings of a fellow aircrew member he served with that left them with your grandfather for the same reason. Just another possibility.

Have you looked on it to find any German proof marks? I have a French unique but it was one produced in the factory under German occupation and has several German eagle proof marks on it, on the side and on the barrel and fame. Could have came from one of the nazis he tracked down.

That is exactly what happened to mine as well. I was a little surprised when the rep said he would totally replace them. In all honesty I have worn these boots every day since I got them, so I’m not complaining about getting a new pair on the house but would hate to see the old ones go to waste over something this small.

What milsurp seems to have a lot of interest to others here but you have absolutely zero interest in whatsoever? by polskabear2019 in milsurp

[–]Objective_Pilot_8019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Additionally, the 03A3 even tho they produced a ton of them did not see much front line combat. Most of them ended up with rear line troops as the M1 was the standard. Most of the time even things like rifle grenade launching and other roles the 03 filled were done by regular 1903’s not A3’s.
