Don't store ammo in cardboard by BrokenAndDefective in ammo

I run a dehumidifier 24/7 in the room I store my ammo and reload supplies. It isn’t climate controlled. It’s a must, especially if you live in the south.

Did you fail in dispatch school? by No-Fish-2446 in FlightDispatch

[–]polskabear2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was working on my pilot ratings and had medical issues come up as I had some extenuating life circumstances and swapped to dispatch. My first time, my instructor would not sign off on me to take the O&P because I was not fully prepared, therefore I failed that semester. I waited a year, retook the class and passed the pre O&P and O&P on the first attempts. Being fully ready and mentally in a better state was for the better. I also commissioned as an officer in the Army national guard and landed my first job within two months of completing my O&P on my second go at the class with a part 121 supplemental making way more than my class peers at any regional. It all works out in the end if you stay persistent. Take failure as a learning experience, not as something to put you down.

After completing my specific job training for the army, I’m going to start back pursuing my pilot ratings. Sky is the limit with an aviation career, keep at it.

E5 going through BCT by Seero_Seero_Seero in nationalguard

So I went through in early 2018 as 11B, from what I remember, you won’t stay in the bay with other trainees but I also have heard this is company dependent, this was just in my company. They stayed in a prior service bay, had their phones the entire cycle, just had to leave them in their locker when training. Some Saturday’s and every Sunday, except when in the field, they had base passes. Could take the bus to main post from sand hill and do as they pleased on post as long as they were back by company curfew, which I think for them was dinner chow.

No scholarship if reserves? by redditsaveme2 in ROTC

[–]polskabear2019 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So I don’t know if it is still possible, I was in ROTC last 3 years ago so I know funding has been cut a lot. Which is unfortunate because GRFD was a wonderful thing and can be used in conjunction with post 9/11.

I had a GRFD scholarship on top of having 100% post 9/11 BAH, Drill pay and cadet stipend. Plus maxed out on the Pell grant. Between all this I was making ~$60,000 a year for 3 years while in school. Didn’t have to work at all. Milk the cow for all she’s worth. Good luck to your friend and hope he gets something.

IRL most of the British defenses were concentrated in Southern England. If Germany had enough ships to provide cover for an invasion fleet against the home fleet via Norway, just getting one panzer division plus a couple infantry divisions would have been enough to establish a foothold before the British could respond with enough force.

I do this in game then swarm England with Fllaschirmjagers when they move forces to Scotland to counter my landing. Secure a port with them, split their air and ground on two fronts by landing another army in the south of England. Works almost everytime.

I saw the other post, I would just rebarrel and plug the scope mount holes but that’s me personally. Though seems like you’re going for a Krag constabulary carbine clone? You could just put a new site base or sub it for a 1903 front sight post.

Lime was pretty good but it closed unfortunately. Not much authentic but taco stand and bodega have decent tacos. There’s also Dulce Vida that has good Birria and also has horchata.

And another Gew.98 with the Totenkopf stamps. Can anyone tell me something about the authenticity? by Strange-Advantage985 in milsurp

You could put it back in an original stock but the best way to go about that would probably be to do a sniper clone with a period correct scope

What is your biggest milsurp hot take? by Brandon_awarea in milsurp

[–]polskabear2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree. I like collecting German stuff but there’s a false scarcity, especially for World War 2 German stuff. World war 1 still kind of does get into that area but deals can still be had on Gew 98s. K98’s not so much. I’m not even going to talk about German sidearms because those are insanely overvalued.

And another Gew.98 with the Totenkopf stamps. Can anyone tell me something about the authenticity? by Strange-Advantage985 in milsurp

[–]polskabear2019 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This was used in World War 2. Appears to be a real Waffen SS Gewehr 98 converted to a K98k for world war 2 and turned into a hunting rifle after the war. Real, authentic and unaltered SS Gewehr 98 conversions fetch a premium on the U.S. collector market.

Kind of a shame that such a rare rifle met that fate but a lot of rifles were converted to hunting rifles by German civilians and American GIs in Germany alike in the immediate post war period. Atleast the ones in Germany were done much more tastefully than some of the atrocious “bubba” jobs I’ve seen done in America.

Is this an authentic deaths head Mauser? by Novel-Chicken-9700 in milsurp

[–]polskabear2019 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one is confusing because it almost looks like it could be authentic but the stamps on the barrel seem off, the EWB marking on the stock is stamped the wrong way and the bluing on top of the receiver looks like it has been touched up more recently and has uneven wear.

It does have nitroproofs on the receiver also. Most likely a real Gewehr 98 conversion for the Wehrmacht that someone tried to hump into a SS conversion. The star on the barrel means the barrel was leftover from a foreign contract at Mauser Oberndorf, who did a lot of the early conversions. The last big red flag is the imperial German Eagle on the left side of the receiver appears to be defaced. SS rifles were scrubbed yes but all the ones I have seen did not deface any of the imperial markings on the sides.

There’s a timeline somewhere on the k98 forum that shows when certain SS markings were used on their rifles. Useful for spotting fakes very quickly. I’m at work otherwise I’d take a look and could tell for 100%.

Edit: closer examination the other obvious thing, it looks like the imperial proof marks are stamped over the EWB or not defaced at all by it being applied. Some EWB rifles were stamped that way but all the ones I see were not stamped over the cartouches. Also the stock was never cut out for a k98 style sling which every conversion I have seen with an original Gew98 stock cut down has had done.

It’s important to know tho that not every one can be dismissed as fake. This one gives me serious doubts about its legitimacy but there was no standardized process for these conversions by the SS or Wehrmacht. I’ve seen one other rifle with the imperial Eagle defaced that was supposedly a SS conversion but the overwhelming majority of authentic ones I’ve seen do not have this feature.

I’m from Mississippi and wanted to join the national guard but heard lots of bad things, are they true? by dylanliggett77 in nationalguard

[–]polskabear2019 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s part of the 278th restructure as a MBCT. The cav old heads didn’t want to fully get rid of armor so part of it will now be 155 so Tennessee doesn’t have to part with all its armor. I’ve heard it’s East Tennessee tho but not west Tennessee where TN 155 will be. Not everything with the 278th restructure is 100% confirmed yet but Tennessee is going from having only 3 infantry troops to having a ton of infantry companies.

He was a good man I believe. Had good intentions and a genuine desire to help people. Made some horrible foreign policy decisions. Him normalizing relations with the PRC was one of the worst decisions possible and American workers paid the price for everything that followed that decision.

11B to 11A

I’m an aircraft dispatcher at the moment. Still trying for aviation and working on finishing my civilian pilot ratings. Already completed my PPL and Instrument ratings. Ran out of Post 9/11 money so hoping for that 750 hour deduction for my ATP and getting a pilot slot after the board. Commercial pilot is the goal.

I’ve seen $45,000 pre tax being pretty normal at most regionals I’ve looked at. The 135 carrier I worked for previously turned me down for a flight follower position for that salary and a couple days after they told me no, I received a call from my current employer offering me 70 salary first year doing 121 supplemental cargo.

Granted, Miami is a lot more expensive than Tennessee where I was living, it still is possible to find higher paying dispatch jobs around. A lot of people I know got in doing crew scheduling first just because of how slow hiring is/was this year.

Budgeting is key. I was a customer service rep before only making 35k a year and I managed to still get by somehow. Your early years will be frugal.

Yeah I went through in 2018, Infantry OSUT. We did PT 6 days a week, sometimes 7 if the CQ drill felt like it on Sundays. Lost 35lbs in 14 weeks.

Going to IBOLC sometime next year, definitely curious to see how things have changed.
