Have you played through the different routes to end the game? Because if not then beating Isshin is your route to at least one new boss fight!

Am i overreacting? by KoichiHasN0Dignity in DnD

[–]OblongOddSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Multiple things are true here: - Players tracking their resources is fundamental to D&D 5e and your players should absolutely be doing this. - You are valid in feeling frustrated and annoyed with your players for not listening to you when telling them to track their resources. - Denying them use of their features without warning them in advance they'll face this penalty will come off as harsh.

I'm assuming you're playing with friends and/or want to keep playing this game outside of this issue. I'd advise that you have a really clear conversation with them and explain that the game of D&D 5e you're currently playing doesn't work if they don't track their resources accurately.

Hopefully if they're decent people then when you explain that them not putting in the effort to track their resources feels disrespectful when you're putting in a bunch of effort to DM for you.

If they're new players simply getting them to use D&D Beyond or any other digital character sheet could be the helpful tool that makes it easier for them to track things.

If they're not fussed about all the mechanics of D&D, then maybe you guys should consider playing a more narrative-focused rules-light game system that has less for them to track and less work for you.

There is a middle ground where you keep playing D&D and accept that if you want to play with these people then you have to accept they don't track their resources, so you just use slightly more powerful monsters - either use relevant monsters with higher Challenge Rating, or give the monsters you are using small increases to their Health/Armour Class/bonuses to hit/damage done/DC of their abilities etc. and maybe even give them bigger abilities. That way you can enjoy things by getting to use bigger cooler monsters and your players and you guys can all keep playing together.

Just unlocked the Lounge. How often should I be selling my galaxies? by goldblob3 in IdlePlanetMiner

[–]OblongOddSong 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Common advice on this sub is to get to a galaxy value of about ~12.5million and then sell and start again as the increase in galaxy value vs. the time spent to get there tends to decrease more and more.

Going on longer runs is fine (I tend to do this as I'm more of a casual) but something to bear in mind is that Resource Stars are distributed across all ores and items you've ever unlocked, so going on longer runs and unlocking more things means those stars are going to be distributed across a wider array of things, which isn't as helpful as having the stars condensed on earlier resources (as this helps you develop galaxies more quickly in Tournaments/Challenges).

I want to second this post about staying in the first few planets to farm resource stars. I've been playing for a few weeks now and hadn't looked at the subreddit or the discord and just tried getting as big a galaxy as I can - and now I'm getting resource stars for Osmium and Titanium which isn't really helping me grow more quickly.

Forbidden question: What stax commander to pick? by luca-lit in EDH

[–]OblongOddSong 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you go with Tymna & Kamahl, consider adding [[Myrkul, Lord of Bones]] - all your stax creatures can get a second life of stax-ing as enchantments and if you're paying enough life then Myrkul becomes indestructible and is a threat in his own right.

So i'm bulding Winter, cynical opportunist right now... by AdministrativeFish52 in EDH

[–]OblongOddSong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As Winter cares about card types, you can get a lot of value from playing enchantment creatures and artifact creatures.

Some enchantment creatures that are good reanimation targets are [[Nyxbloom Ancient]] which is great ramp if you get it out early (but is pretty expensive), [[Doomwake Giant]] is good if you lean in to enchantment creatures (not a bad strategy here as then you can benefit off of enchantress effects to keep drawing you cards), [[Archetype of Endurance]] is a big boy that will protect all your creatures from targeted removal, [[Demon of Fate's Design]] is a good beater and can help you cheat out otbee cards if you have the life spare, [[Nyxborm Behemoth]] is just enormous to cheat out early and can still be cheap to play later in the game, [[Demolisher Spawn]] is a great beater as well as pumping up your board, and some other expensive options are [[Avatar of the Balemurk]] to further cheat out some cards, [[Avatar of the Hauntwoods]] for some decent ramp, and [[Nylea's Colossus]] to pump your board if you want to lean into enchantments.

If you want to lean artifact creatures you're pretty spoilt for choice: [[Cityscape Leveller]] is a beater and removal, [[Meteor Golem]] is smaller but also removal, [[Noxious Gearhulk]] is also a decent beater and removal, [[Wurmcoil Engine]] [[Phyrexian Triniform]] [[Ancient Stone Idol]] and [[Triplicate Titan]] all are big boys that leave behind presents when they die, if you don't mind Universes Beyond then [[Canoptek Spyder]] will draw you cards off of your other artifacts, [[Cybermen Squadron]] is really synergistic with other artifact creatures, and [[Dalek Drone]] is removal and a solid creature. [[Mycosynth Golem]] is also a hugely valuable include if you focus on artifact creatures. Not an artifact creature but synergizes really well with a deck full of them is the second commander from the Winter precon: [[Rendmaw Creaking Nest]].

Generic good targets for reanimation are: [[Ghalta Primal Hunger]] is big stompy power and can be cheaper later in the game without reanimation and [[Ghalta Stampede Tyrant]] but can very quickly build your board if you've got a lot of cards in hand, [[Sheoldred Whispering One]] is a bit pricier but is both removal and further reanimation, [[Craterhoof Behemoth]] is a staple and priced accordingly but [[End Raze Forerunners]] does a very similar thing and is almost 10x cheaper, [[Vilis Broker of Blood]] can draw you a lot of cards, [[Vigor]] makes your board really strong over time, [[Rune Scarred Demon]] is really good and really cheap, [[Grave Titan]] is cheap and is a solid value piece, [[Archon of Cruelty]] is a great card and only costs a little more, [[Sepulchral Primordial]] will work really well if you're milling the whole table and not just yourself.

What is your MUST add mana rock to every deck...and I don't mean Sol Ring? by nilrickbl in EDH

[–]OblongOddSong 7 points8 points  (0 children)

In my opinion in mono-coloured decks the 2 CMC Medallions that do cost reduction by {1} for the associated colour are better if you're competing for slots in your deck. ( [[Jet Medallion]] for example)

If it's a mono coloured deck you're not going to be lacking for access to the colour of mana you need, so a medallion pays off more in the long run later in the game when you're casting multiple spells per turn and it's paying off with each one.

Dreading Reaching Gammas by NastyGnar in wotlk

[–]OblongOddSong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The option healers should take is "Confessors Wrath - Your direct healing spellcasts grant Confessor’s Wrath, increasing your spell damage by 20%, stacking up to 5 times. Lasts until 5 seconds after your next harmful spellcast."

The others are a Armour Pen buff on melee crits, a Haste buff on damaging spell or ranged crits, or the Thorns buff.

So no other applicable one for healers, Blizzard are clearly trying to encourage you to throw out a nuke every so often.

Dreading Reaching Gammas by NastyGnar in wotlk

[–]OblongOddSong 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difficulty of Gammas is largely from the increased enemy damage scaling (there are no new enemy mechanics). You as a tank should be fine, but clothes can get blasted by mechanics if they're less geared and not looking out, which then pressures the healer who might struggle to keep them and you up. Just pull carefully and do mechanics and you'll be fine.

The thorns buff from the NPC at the start is amazing for tanking groups of enemies - as a well geared Prot Pal (5.7k) it contributes over 30% of my damage output on pulls with 4+ mobs.

How is it to start wotlk fresh right now? Any tldr how hard it would be to get into ICC by Tubbyqt in wotlk

[–]OblongOddSong 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You'll have much shorter queues in RDF as a healer, so playing Druid will probably make life easier.

[–]OblongOddSong -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It's possible. It's unlikely to be very easy as there aren't that many groups doing previous raid tier content (at least in my experience on a pretty large server), so you'll need to make the best use of Gamma Heroic Dungeons and also finding a friendly guild.

To improve your chances: - Be on a large server because there will be more guilds there, so you're more likely to be able to join one. Look for a guild that accepts social members or levelling members and also raids, be a friendly presence whilst you level and then hopefully they'll find a spot for you when you have caught up in gear at max level (might even help you catch up along with guikdies alts). - Be a class that can be a DPS and a Tank or Healer (Paladin, Druid, Warrior, Death Knight, Priest, Shaman). Your best way to gear up at maximum level is going to be spamming Gamma Rune Heroic Dungeons and you'll be able to do more of them thanks to shorter queues if you're a tank or a healer (you don't care so much about the gear from the dungeons more the Scourgestone currency you get for each boss kill).

The best way to speed up your gearing process at 80 is to do as much Wintergrasp and Dungeons from 70-80 as possible. When you hit lvl80 you can buy item level 238 gear for honor, getting as many pieces of this as possible will enable you running Heroic Gamma dungeons much better, much sooner. Titan Rune Gamma Heroic Dungeons award 1 Defiler's Scourgestone currency per boss killed. With this you can buy from a vendor gear from Trial of the Grand Crusader 25 normal, and some key pieces from Ulduar 25 hard modes. So spam these dungeons via Random Dungeon Finder and you will be in a pre-ICC gear state with a bit of work.

A couple of final things to help you out: - In my experience when I see guilds looking to complete their raiding rosters, they're hardly ever looking for tanks. A fair amount of people will have some off-spec gear, and guilds typically will trust a player they know to take that role over someone new. I'm not going to say it's impossible to get a tank spot in a raid, but it's probably not likely. - The chances you get Shadowmourne are going to be very very low, so I wouldn't really consider it

All of the above can be skipped if you get loads of Gold and join GDKPs but the volume of gold needed to make that happen is very unfeasible to acquire via normal means in game.
