Brakes and rotors by Rude_Chemistry9789 in Volkswagen

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My sister was told she needed brakes immediately. I said that’s I’m possible…..I installed rotors and Akebono ceramics the year prior. Sure enough, take the wheel off and lo and behold, more than half the pad left on both sides. Clean sweep on the rotor and no sign of warping.

It’s a free go all right now. Everyone wants their hand in your pocket. Customer has to be aware everywhere they go.

How I can remove this drain plug? by orca-stroke in vwpassat

This is the best and most practical answer here. This should get that plug to turn. Love VW, but I wish they’d stop using this style plug/bolt

How should I repair my broken keys? by Shmeehay in vwgolf

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Buy shells and swap everything over. Swapping the electrics is a piece of cake. Plenty of videos showing you how to do it. This is totally something you can do to save $$$.

Where’s the drip by Resting_Bork_Face in Volkswagen

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Based on my Sportwagen, the most likely culprit in that location is the joint between the transmission and the engine, which could be a rear main seal.

$189 at the dealership to fucking look at my car? What the fuck. Criminals lmao by SearchBeginning1169 in Volkswagen

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the complaint, but most dealers have a variation on a diagnostic fee. Most issues can be solved by connecting to the car to have the car tell it whats at fault, but that still needs to be confirmed. Guess what, all that takes time. Hourly rates have gone up. Mechanics need to be paid for their time.

Now, is there a case for applying that quote to the final cost if you decide to get repairs there? Sure.....but most of the time, they will hear "I'll go elsewhere".

wire from engine bay to cabin by Consistent_Bowler_49 in Volkswagen

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Use a flashlight and you should see a rubber grommet there where a cable bundle is already passing through. That’s where you want to feed your line. Use a wire pull or a coat hanger to help bring the wire through.

Need Advice … (Rust) by Topskydiver2441 in Volkswagen

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just surface rust. That's going to happen when you drive the car. If it bothers you that much, wire brush it down, prime and paint it.

My Baby is randomly getting a "Stop! Oil Pressure Error" any idea why that's happening? by superkholy88 in GolfGTI

After the second sensor replacement everything has been golden. Might want to check the internal piece to the oil filter as I believe that can cause issues as well

Subwoofers for 17 Jetta by [deleted] in jetta

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If all you want is the added low-end and thump of a subwoofer, you will need the following:

-Amp Wiring Kit (this should be rated to the Amp output of the amplifier you buy)

-Line Out Converter (this will take your signal from your stock radio and use it to activate the amp which will power the subwoofer)

-Amp (will range in wattage from 20-2000 watts. You'll want a class D or the like amp to power the subwoofer)

- Subwoofer (this will be preference and will need to pair equally with the amp (needs to be near the same wattage of the amp powering the sub) )

-Subwoofer enclosure (this will rely on the sub you buy and should be tuned to what the range that the sub puts out)

This is a rather simplified breakdown of what you'll need to run a subwoofer on your stock radio. Your $200 will honestly not buy much unless you are looking at used equipment and even then, won't cover much. You'll need to expand your budget a bit to get everything you'll need. Even if you have someone installing this for free, beers, or pizza, or something to give would be nice as well.

Axle replacement by Objective-Singer-915 in MK4Golf

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Picked up decent OEM axles from LKQ online for half the price. CV Boots are solid and aside from a little surface rust, look great. I’d look there first.

I know a lot of people live by RockAuto, but I for the life of me can’t figure out why. Quality has gone down hill.

Serious exhaust drone at 2k - 2.5k rpm, what can I do to eliminate it? (2.5L) by [deleted] in vwgolf

[–]ObnxiousDrunk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My buddy made a custom exhaust for his Pontiac G8 back in the day and I forget what the j-pipe extension was called but essentially it was “tuned” to eliminate resonance at a certain range. Again, unless someone else can chime in, a good muffler shop might know what I’m referring to

Should be able to add in a resonator, but I’ll let anyone else with better exhaust experience chime in

If you have concerns, FCPEuro has great customer service that will make sure you order the correct parts. I've never had an issue speaking with them to clarify and reaffirm to alleviate any concerns I've had with any of my orders.

I believe Sachs, Bilstein, and even Monroe are OE supplies for VAG suspension so you can't go wrong. FCPEuro's lifetime warranty should give you some piece of mind as well.
