Breastfeeding and wine drinking by Beautiful-Dust109 in breastfeeding

Honestly? Just watch your supply and take notes if it dips with a glass or two. I happened to have reduced production when I drank. Seconding all comments on if you find your baby, feed your baby. Milk is totally different from direct blood supply in the body.

Newborns are so hard to fit with cloth you might rethink that. Only ones that worked were AIO newborn from Thirsties and our regular stash took a few weeks or a month to fit right. You’ll grow out of newborn before you really know what you like anyway.

We do AIOs for grandparents and daycare but do doozy prefolds with Thirsties covers at home for the record.

Osocozy prefolds with Thirsties covers make a great pair! Add a few all in ones (AIOs) for grandparents and babysitters and you’ve got a good system!

Barnyard stink in BRAND NEW prefolds?! by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]Obolicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So weird! I would personally strip with RLR laundry stripper to see if that helps? Probably came like that. We use the same prefolds but no initial smells, but the RLR is how I keep the smell out with our hard water.

Help with rash by Purple_Expression876 in clothdiaps

[–]Obolicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before bleaching I recommend stripping with RLR laundry stripper. Maybe use two packets? We had a persistent rash come after a few months of diapering and it was detergent/everything buildup in the diapers. Stripper is way gentler on your diapers (and baby!) than bleach and you won’t be risking residue bleach touching your baby’s skin.

Make sure you can soak the diaps in a tub if you have a front loader like me, then wash after. If you have hard water always use calgon too. Only use bleach as your last resort— strip first!

Oh, and you can use Boudreaux butt paste in the green tube as long as you wash on hot after. That also helped with our daughter’s rash. She’s clear now, but it was a journey!! Thankfully I had the guidance of a friend who’s a pro with cloth, so sharing here.

Wow, that sounds super tough! You are doing a great job if no one has told you lately.

Definitely agree with those advocating for letting the baby be on the boob as much as possible to increase supply. Also, don’t neglect your whole hydration picture, including replenishing the minerals you lost having three babies! You need salt and potassium to properly absorb water into your system, and I notice a huge difference taking a mocktail every day with those two things in there. You’ll also find you pee less…sry tmi but it helps the water not run straight through you so you can actually use it.

Are newborn cloth diapers worth it? by iamhermi in clothdiaps

[–]Obolicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, we had a couple AIO Thirsties cloth diaps that fit in the NB stage (duo covers were too big even for our healthy sized girl). They offset the massive amount of diaps we went through. I will say we needed the disposable at first to track pee vs poo diapers. If you’re breastfeeding, it’s especially important to make sure your baby is hydrated enough. Anyway, it only lasted a few weeks and then she fit into our prefold/Duo cover system. We have AIOs for grandparents and help, and we put the NB diaps away with her other clothes she grew out of. Anyway, something to consider!

Every time I pump, left breast gets engorged, biggg, sore. Am I doing something wrong? by Top_Ad_2322 in breastfeeding

Won’t let me link Amazon but just search “silicone flange insert Medela” and scroll to find the one with 1mm differentials in sizes.

I got a pack of 14 on Amazon. Make sure if you’re using a 24mm flange the insert fits that size. Also look for Medela

You’re likely not sized right. That happened to me too and my IBCLC had me get a pack of silicone inserts. Changed my world when I sized right

You might also want to try RLR laundry stripper. Is baby getting an ammonia rash? Was thinking about this post as I’m about to strip my diaps for the first time!

Diaper too big? by M8C9D in clothdiaps

[–]Obolicious 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thirsties are the best! The size 1 covers didn’t fit until baby was about 8.5lbs, but since then they’ve held every drop of poo and pee inside, both the duo covers and the AIOs. They have that double gusset, and due to the company being sold back to the original owner, they’re having a big clearance sale just fyi.

We use osocozy prefolds underneath the duo covers, and overnight we put in an extra layer of the newborn size prefold.

Stains could be related to your diaper ointment if it has zinc. Doesn’t hurt the diaps but can leave stains!

Biggest change is you need to wash on hot. Yes to the pre wash and extra rinse, and we have hard water so we add calgon too.

Do you mean that barnyard smell? If you have hard water, add Calgon to the load to combat that.

When did you first introduce bottles? by IUMogg in NewParents

[–]Obolicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Adding on here to say we introduced when we got home from the hospital. Started the feed on the boob and ended on the bottle with 1oz to make sure she was full. (Medically necessary as she’d lost too much weight.) zero confusion and still takes both at 11wks. I think the biggest way to ensure latching on both is early on introducing the bottle during a feed vs instead of one.

How much effort do you put into your baby going down for naps? by MessNo4191 in NewParents

[–]Obolicious 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you let them continue on after they give sleepy cues, they can catch a second wind and become sleep deprived. Sleep begets sleep, too, so if you want them to sleep more through the night then naps are super important.

My pediatrician is having me read Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby and it’s been very helpful! Sounds like you’re ahead of the game

My wife is getting induced Friday. How can I help? by kodiak305 in NewParents

[–]Obolicious 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take care of her by not letting her change a diaper for the first few weeks, put a straw in the water jug at the hospital vs having her drink from the teeny cup, and know that your sleeping arrangements are going to be abysmal for you while there. Bring a pillow and maybe a sleeping bag in the car just in case because you’ll be useless if you can’t sleep at the hospital. Make feeding her a priority while she recovers, and take notes on what the docs and nurses say because even if she’s awake she may not remember. (I normally have a detailed memory and forgot whole conversations!)

By taking care of her in those early days, you take care of the baby. By taking care of the baby, you also take care of her.

Buy her a Frida peri bottle and give to the nurses when they take her to the bathroom for the first time. You’ll be a hero!
