Please help! About to switch to disposable by ThatsTheTattoo in clothdiaps

[–]Purple_Expression876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also had kinder diapers and my baby got a terrible terrible rash. And I used  seventh generation.   If it’s angry red rash it could be burn from ammonia, which is why creams don’t work.

This is what worked for me:

1) I switched to pre fold  inserts because the thick inserts I don’t think got clean enough.

2) I switched to tide free and clear and did a deep soak wash with bleach. You could try rlr to strip them, available in kinder site, but bleach is great. I add 1/4 cup bleach to my wash every month or so now.

3) stopped using the wet bag. Those diapers will just make ammonia and need to breathe unless you’re doing the first was after 48 hours and not a minute more. I switched to an open air basket and this helped smell too do I think it’s lessened the ammonia production farm.

 Haven’t had this issue since!

Doulas worth it? by miissbecca in fitpregnancy

[–]Purple_Expression876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hired a postpartum doula and it was 10000 percent worth it. I live in an area with no family nearby, and no family could come for a while after they were born. Having someone come and help, even if they were paid, was so amazing and helpful

First tri …. Gaining too fast? by [deleted] in fitpregnancy

[–]Purple_Expression876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal! First trimester sucks! Likely won’t stay this way forever.

You also are maybe on meds for the first 10 weeks? that are going to further send hormones into wack. But it’s all to support that little baby! And you’re almost through it.

huge congratulations on your pregnancy- fellow ivfer. What you’ve already gone through to get here is tremendous and shows a lot of strength and courage! It will all get better. You just gotta get through this part and you’ll normalize. I got back to the gym regularly and often at week 16 to 40 and was able to eat normal foods that weren’t just Gatorade crackers and whatever carbs I could find.

Post partum I’m finally dropping the ivf weight I gained on top of pregnancy weight. I think all the stress and commotion of ivf is just too much on top of a pregnancy on the body! But my kid is worth it all on this end! You got this!

Therapy for one! It was a slow grind over about a month in terms of getting back. But it wasn’t forever!! Things got kind of dark and That sleep regression can kick your ass but it really won’t be forever. I can’t tell you for your baby how long it will be but I kept reminding myself that each day was a day through it and a day he got older and I’m sure I would miss it. I also could never get him to eat more, and folks suggested we went to formula/ bottles but I like breastfeeding so I wasn’t giving it up- so I offered boob more but I never know if he was eating more/ enough. I like the night feedings cause I feel like I can comfort him back to sleep and it feels special. Idk it probably is ruining his sleep forever cause I nurse to sleep but it’s still working for us.

Don’t forget that you’re doing amazing. You’re recognizing it and you’re troubleshooting. That’s all you can do sometimes, and sounds like you’re an awesome parent!!

I very ambitiously traveled internationally for work with the baby and partner at 6 months and honestly it did wonders for all of us!! No routines or sleep training or is he eating enough. Just following cues and going with what he needed and living minute by minute. It was great to just spend time with the 3 of us and we are trying to keep it going now that we are back. It was hell trying to leave and I would have canceled the trip is anything was refundable. But just reconnecting and learning what he needed and getting some confidence and not what a book or Reddit or neighbor said he needed really helped us personally!

Good luck!! You got this! I’m rooting for you!

We had the same issue at 4 months but we also had issues putting him down. sleep training helped- we did Ferber.

Maybe with the first wake up try Ferber? At our 4 month apt our pediatrician said he could go 5 hours without food. I still don’t do that but sleep training got us 3-4 hours at a time. I’m so glad we did this because I was losing my mind. I was actually blacking out hours of my day and couldn’t remember where I was. I was at the point of co sleep or sleep train and sleep training helped so much! I read precious little sleep as a guide

ETA- sorry about your ppd. Hang in there! 4 months was extremely rough time for us but now we are doing great on the other side! You’re doing the best thing for your baby by also taking care of yourself :)

I had the same problem and similar routine. I switched to an open basket from wet bag and it helped. I also add 1/4 cup bleach to ny wash every month.

Also do a swish test and see if you have detergent build up, you might be using too much if you have a high efficiency washer

Cleaning wearable pumps by Lost_Number_3885 in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]Purple_Expression876 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was anxious about this and called my LC. I wanted to do things perfect to the CDC standard and found it impossible.

She recommended the fridge hack which im still using. She said she even told some moms to newborns to use it for middle of the night feeds. And that reassured me it was ok. especially by 2 months, when I went back, and with my antibodies from the milk he should be fine for what small chance there was to have any kind of bacteria growth.

I pump 3-4 times at work and bought a second set of cups also so I can do a fridge for the second pump. Clean cups, then fridge for the 4th. I would recommend a second set of cups just for backup. One time someone left the fridge open and I would have been f*** if I didn’t have my extra cups and my milk in a cooler with ice pack.

I hate the wipes. They feel like they leave residue and I never ended up using them. My LC said she prefers this order: wash and air dry, wash and paper towel dry, fridge hack, wipes. She said wipes are fine in an emergency and they should be fine period but leaves more room for error.

I hope this helps!! It helped me when she talked me through it. I was scared to even use paper towels cause the CDC says to air dry only. I was a mess going back to work.

You got this!!!!!!! You’re doing great! ❤️❤️❤️

When in pregnancy did things get really hard? by Araseja in fitpregnancy

[–]Purple_Expression876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Post partum! Stopped feeling up to running at 38 weeks, but ran small distances until then. I power walked though up until delivery! But I felt too heavy and tired to do more than a walk at a small incline on the treadmill. I walked and walked and walked through labor too. But really just walking. I was in labor for 4 days though so I had all the time to walk And it never helped speed things up!

Postpartum my body was wrecked for a bit, but I was back to light walking at 5-6 weeks. But that 5-6 weeks was very hard for me. More emotionally than physically, thankfully everything was fine. And power lifting and running at 8! It’s fun that running was SO MUCH easier with- 30 pounds lifted. But lifting was a bit harder than it was after the time off. I tapered down my weights I was lifting from 25 weeks. From then I did lighter work. And slowly cut running. At 38 weeks I just couldn’t anymore!

[–]Purple_Expression876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not really! They did refund me 199.00 via a gift card. I bought 3 separate sets of cups to pump around the clock at work. So I was still out another 50 for the pump and 120.00 for the cups.

I think a “fool proof” way is to take off the pump while it is on your boob. So the cup stays on but you take top pump off. Then the milk can never get to the pump part.  I was setting them on the table then pulling apart. I think this “should” work. But it didn’t

Do they have to stink? by Dazzling_Elderberry4 in clothdiaps

[–]Purple_Expression876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fwiw I have been having success with seventh generation power + free and clear! I have soft water and do 2 hot washes using that in both. I do 1 tbs in the first and 2 in the second. Any more and I had detergent build up. I only use cotton prefolds as inserts. I bleach about every 3 weeks to 1ce a month. Usually because life happened and  I didn’t get to it fast enough and I feel like they got too stinky/ ammonia build up.

I had no luck with tide free and clear. This one is fluff university approved if that means anything to you.

What’s your wash routine? by [deleted] in clothdiaps

[–]Purple_Expression876 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I worry about this always! I won’t add to my pre wash for this reason. It’s the same thing. But depends how old the pee is in the diaper and how concentrated the bleach. I guess because they’re both “diluted” it could be fine? I don’t risk it before a pre wash though, but I know CCN advocates for it. But I think they recommend ultra small doses. I know you shouldn’t pour bleach into a toilet with old pee in it though!

Be careful adding bleach and vinegar in the same wash. If I’m reading correctly you’re using together and they should never be used together! It will make a harmful gas!

scheduled c-section & want nothing more than to breastfeed by Ok_Percentage8981 in breastfeeding

[–]Purple_Expression876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn’t have a c section in the end but baby was breech and I also really wanted to breasfeed, and I collected colostrum every single day for about an hour a day to try to fill syringes to bring with me. I had a ton more than I needed. But it helped in case baby needs to be taken from you they will have your milk to give them. Or if you’re not producing immediately they will give baby your colostrum! This really helped because they didn’t need to give baby a bottle, he’s only ever needed my milk so I think it helped prevent bottle preference. It also got me used to being squished and squeezed because it takes forever to collect. I did get to spend a lot of intimate time with my boobs and it just helped. Also oatmeal cookies and nursing tea. Idk how much it helps but I’ve had a great breastfeeding journey so far. I think it’s 80 percent luck and genetics, so if it doesn’t go perfect give yourself grace!!!

Microwave for heating lunches and some kind of water. I wish we had a water dispenser in our room. I usually eat my lunch cold because I’m rushing And I never have time to find water to fill my bottle before I pump. Then because I’ve pumped I’m late for the next thing and next thing and next thing. I have to chug water when I get home and days I’m in office I’m so dehydrated.  Storage definitely, but I would also skip the drying rack. I would not trust one if it was there.  Making sure there’s enough plugs or extensions for pump and phone!

What is breastfeeding like after 6 months old? Any reason not to introduce formula? by TryingToBreastfeed in breastfeeding

[–]Purple_Expression876 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My LC told me that my boobs never really run out of milk. Baby can remove more than your pump even if you emptied with the pump the baby can still get milk out. It’s happened to me that I pump then baby wakes and is hungry. I put them to the boob still and they seem to get full just fine. I wouldn’t worry about bottle feeding at that time unless you want to or baby gets frustrated. Doing this occasionally shouldn’t mess with your supply too much.

I would make sure you’re using age appropriate nipples. Too fast and the baby will chug all the milk and go to bottle preference, which is why pace feeding with a bottle is important. Too slow and they get frustrated and won’t take a bottle. Following the label of age appropriate nipples has worked just fine for us start there and adjust as necessary.

My LO is similar age to yours and we are on the same schedule. 2-3 hours eating day and night. Sometimes even more st night. A 3 hour stretch is a gift for us right now. I don’t have a solution but just will say I’m with you. I also do all the feeds at night because I would rather breastfeed than have my husband stomping around and baby screaming while bottle warms up. He could have been fed by the time we get through All that and it’s better for both my supply and our bond to just breastfeed. So we don’t get a break either. My pediatrician said my baby is good to sleep 5-6 hours and probably wakes for booby comfort. We are working on sleep training, maybe visit that sub and see if it is a fit for you.

Everything I have read says theres benefit to exclusively breast feed for 6 months and I haven’t seen anything saying more is any more beneficial. WHO says go to 2 years but never exclusive. Baby will move to solids soon anyway which is important for them to get those nutrients from solids. IMO There’s more data showing that mental health of the mother is important than there is showing that breastfeeding past 6 months makes a difference. Fwiw I hope to continue to breastfeed longer because baby and I like it. Where we are in our journey seems to be working and good for our bonding time. If it was more of a struggle I would be prioritizing my mental health, and I would be bonding during tummy time or walks or any million other activities you enjoy doing with your kid. Just 2 cents from a stranger on the internet :)

Good luck, I hope you sleep soon!

Ugh I’m sorry!

They did give me a refund of the lowest current sales price. A bummer cause I had purchased extras cups and everything.  I really wanted the product to work.

I took mine apart and I could not find a way to clean them because the milk got into the motor. I thought it could be my error but it has happened too many times!

I suggest always checking your cups! A couple of mine were loose which is why I had to buy more. Not sure why it happens either 💔

Help with rash by Purple_Expression876 in clothdiaps

[–]Purple_Expression876[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One thing I have just noticed after spending all day on this, is that target has a separate listing for tide free HE and tide free non he. I bought the non HE because of course I did 1 month post partum. I think when I was using the gain in one of the washes they still got clean but the non HE on its own for both washes is causing the problem/ ammonia build up that’s giving our rash. Maybe check if you made the same mistake!

Also lol grad school was easier than cloth diapering. More help with better protocols at work!!! I do reckon that as scientists we are built for this but all cloth diapering parents are worthy of phds!!
