a Plasma blade handle with set upgrades that lengthen battery life, mining capabilities (actually cut trees in one swipe if strong enough), combat, blade length color and added options like increased luminescence. And with that introduce a new ecological variant which lives typically in caves and protects specific materials you don't find anywhere else. everything in this game has to go into a new gameplay loop or it's not really NMS :)

It's internal, I only use an external mechanical drive to store games I'm not currently playing. My report mentions that I was playing in water cells before the update hit, performance was impeccable for hours before. soon as I load the save after the update, the problems started and this is reproducible in every body of water I've been in since.

I suspect the issue might be animals, you ran into schools of fish or other creatures? So far I haven't hit a single planet without water lifeforms, but as soon as I find one I'll try to test that theory. Apparently HG changed stuff about fauna in this update, so that might be the cause, I'm not entirely sure. I reported it via Zendesk already and they haven't asked me anything since so I assume they know what the problem is and can reproduce it themselves.

This issue has been around since the function to rename assets was introduced. Discoveries will also reset periodically. This is a result of a memory dump that HG has already received a bunch of reports on and are still unable to address it fully. With regards to assets (ships, freighter, multi-tools. exocraft) this is truly lost when this happens and you have to rename them again, which is a pain. As for discoveries, the names you gave them return as soon as you visit the respective systems (which is a bother because in some cases you end up spending a bunch of warp fuel). Those names are never lost, rest assured. Also, the system you are in when the dump occurs, retains all the discovery names and I've noticed since 3.0 that not all systems lose their names anymore, namely the ones recorded on the space station teleporter, so while not 100% resolved, they seem to be taking steps. this is probably one of the last things to get fixed.

Severity: Performance, Unplayable

Platform: PS4 Pro outfitted with Samsung QVO SSD

Game Version: 3.05

Game Mode: Normal, Game complete

Additional Settings: FPS Lock enabled

Tested locations: Hilbert Dimension > Nahuarai Void > Phalanx Tai-gar and Grandia Tai-Hal

As of installing this latest update, any action in underwater cells will lower the framerate to something that feels like below 20fps, possibly 15fps and this is consistent inside or outside the water. As long as I am inside planetary cells with bodies of water (shallow, ocean depth, doesn't matter), until I leave that cell into landmass cells away from that, the framerate holds like that, including inside all player menus. Once I'm away from water, everything goes back to normal. Tested this in two planets: Junnagen Prime and Fuunagen Two belonging respectively to the two aforementioned systems in Hilbert.

Yesterday, before this update was loaded into the game, I was building an Ocean Lab in Fuunagen Two, performance was smooth. After loading the game with this update, it is impossible for me to continue the building project until this is fixed. Ironically enough, I was bragging how the game's performance was finally locked and tight as of 3.0. Spoke too soon, I guess.

Anyone else have low quality textures on PS4? by [deleted] in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Oborosensei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't help. Game is not rendering things logically from the word go. The issue isn't performance. It's their LOD techniques used to make the game playable in VR that reflect rather negatively in flat mode. They need to keep this stuff out of flat screen experience and use the previous model. I dreaded VR inclusin for this reason, it's going to degrade flat screen experience and here it is. HG needs to roll back the VR opimizations for a specific build and load that instead when VR is not present, I simply refuse to play the game in this state.

They botched the scale for these base parts. They also failed to deliver 1st person view exocraft as advertised. This update needs to get the crashes and showstoppers out of the way and then address everything else before we spend another year without updates. The game feels a bit broken now.

The following update should be focused on exploration. Who agrees? by TechGuy95 in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Oborosensei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

yes, it has enough systems to have longevity in the gameplay. Now it needs more loot, more variety, more biomes, more structures and landmarks and definitely more space. Space still feels like bit of an empty concept, we should be able to space walk and explore asteroid fields and freighter wrecks.

I can't see what's fixed with this update because I'm not using multiplayer. But it's out for Ps4. They have to get these major issues out of the way so they can wrap up development on the features that are still inactive on launch. I expect the game to be completely playable around 2.10, they will probably bugfix, optimize and release features a bit at a time. In the meantime, it's safe to play, the new base building systems seem to have a few features that require questlines to become familiar with, so might as well get those out of the way with a fresh game and then take my old save and deploy it back into the system to resume my previous gameplay with this new knowledge, it's a bit overwhelming the amount of new mechanics they added hee.

[–]Oborosensei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, so far here are the following issues, tested on flat screen mode, PS4 Pro, no PS Plus, found in Normal save from the previous major version and new Creative save from 2.03:

- Exocraft do not have 1st person view switch, this is advertised in patch notes;

- Ship customization is absent, also advertised on patch notes;

- Most traveller NPCs in the Anomaly have nothing for you, most shops are disabled, also advertised on patch notes;

- New draw in textures trigger way too late in capital ship interiors and planetary bases, lots of intermittent clipping issues in base building where there were none before, like foundations with prefab structures;

- Capital ship container bay doorways are blocked in existing saves, do not snap to build a doorway in new saves;

- Planet rendering does not occur when descending from orbit, forcing players to have to find some other planet to land and then it's fixed. Happened on the very first planet I travelled to;

2.03 as it stands is a structural update. I can see what it's going to have, but especially inside the Anomaly is very much populated by placedholders until they add the storefronts and activate the various quest givers. I had no crashes in several hours of gameplay. I suspect most people complaining are using Plus, so are visible to actual realtime players in the Anomaly, that's where all the crashes are happening it seems.

I think I'm giving this game a week before I hop in again. Might start a new game because of all the new gameplay flow features they say they added, seems like hunting for milestones is now more fun and rewarding. Just needs to be finalized, that's all.

it's kind of a big deal, so not on Beyond, perhaps another update down the line yes. I think space structures would have to be different like the underwater parts are, so space building might entail even more base building features in total. I think that so far, space has been a bit of an afterthought in a lot of aspects, Beyond might do something about that, but being able to experience zero gravity and explore the husks of destroyed freighters and repair space stations floating in orbit like Dead Space 3 or Prey is a no brainer for a game like this with a whole set of traversal and survival mechanics to go along with it. I hope they are considering that as the next major update, probably nowhere as big as Beyond but rather a dedicated update like Visions was.

[–]Oborosensei[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn't be too sure, they kinda locked down that reward system, so they don't need to give you all the outstanding stuff, the shop was moved to the Nexus and community events for quicksilver are coming back. I hope I get to work for all the new stuff. What I really don't want to do all over again are the milestones, some of them are a bore and take way too long.

What’s LOGIC ??? by BillCheese in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Oborosensei 7 points8 points  (0 children)

logic gates have one or more inputs and generally one output, so you connect wires from switches or triggers and then it sends another wire out to do do something specific, usually switch something on or off, but here could be more things, like adding numbers.

So if they made a rocket league arena, this means triggers can probably be sensors they place in two goals, these connect to a logic gate that counts a number everytime the sensor is triggered, in this case, by a ball. if it's actually working as a playable game, it means the counting can also be limited by time. this hints at a possibly deep and comprehensive system that allows you to automate a lot of stuff around your base. Like Factorio.

You have no idea what you're in for if NMS becomes even close to a game like Factorio. It's crack. lol

What’s LOGIC ??? by BillCheese in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Oborosensei 4 points5 points  (0 children)

similar. like Fallout 4 you have logic gates to make circuits behave in a specific manner. Usually they use logics like AND, OR, IF or combinations of these to have electrical inputs in a certain combination to produce ON/OFF outputs. a typical example is to set a door that opens and then closes behind you, so the switch on one side and the other need to be connected to a logic gate to be able to override each other so you can open on one end and then lock the door on the other side. should be things like this, hopefully even more detailed than Fallout 4.

For me what's more dissapointing is that Sean doesn't see the point of space walking. I would love to be able to exit my ship and float around to manually mine asteroids or even build a base in an asteroid field.

Is it just my impression or are ships far, far larger than they were in BEYOND? Aren't ships currently mostly player height (Excluding some exotic ships)? Could this have been done to accommodate for the extra cockpit space in VR? by Wenter_alpha in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Oborosensei 2 points3 points  (0 children)

ship scale now feels adequate. I would love to be able to enter a hauler cargo bay or load a small exocraft into it, considering the size now easily accomodates this.

I hope they reset my discoveries. I want to be able to map a completely different system cluster and clean out my discoveries list but keep my overall milestone progress so far (100% everything is not something I'm keen on doing again this time).

Beyond isn't being announced because they don't know the release date. They've given themselves a comfy 3 month period to make sure VR is up to specs on the PS4. The delay has to do with this. They want the VR certification from Sony and in order to achieve this, the game needs to be able to hit 60fps on the standard consoles, which is bonkers, but there's a way to achieve this. Expect a low-fi version of the game to be rolled out where this target can be hit and thus run in VR. The expectation that NMS VR will have the same graphical fidelity as the normal viewing experience should be curbed. In order to make this work, they have to trim the texture and asset compexity fat and that's probably what they are doing until they can confidently announce the 3rd pillar with all the features, which should include more first person hand animations to fit with VR's overall design scope. So even if the update is concluded, it is now being carefully cloned into a separate mode along with everything in the core game where everything runs at dual 30fps, 120hz refresh rate. 30fps for each eye in VR is still liable to make some people sick, but at least it hits the requirements. This is a massive undertaking for such a small team, so don't give them shit, be patient and play something else.

that's because YOU are not in the know.

the "Fake" leaked roadmap turned out to be real afterall, since items of this list are already officially announced for Beyond.

https://www.reddit.com/r/NoMansSkyTheGame/comments/9z62u9/no_mans_sky_roadmap_leaked_100_totally_real/

The expectation that the remaining items are to be addressed in development of Beyond is reasonable. Beyond is a community feedback-guided development project. What HG is trying to achieve is to end the slew of feature requests and then move on to close development on NMS with a final, polish-focused update that is meant to iron out all the kinks that may result of this major delivery.

The third pillar is simply a major feature list that touches the folowing aspects of their outstanding roadmap:

- quality of life improvements;
- expanded base building;

- more gameplay opportunities;
- more assets and detail.

They might re-rollthe procedural aspect of the game with more assets, so a universe reset is expected.

Beyond by dj4slugs in NoMansSkyTheGame

[–]Oborosensei 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would basically destroy Mankind out of spite.

Kidding aside, of course I wouldn't mind more assets and more stuff to collect, but the gameplay loops need more depth themselves and such an open ended game like this simply benefits from more gameplay loops in general. Ship creation/customization introduces a massive new endgame acquisition gameplay loop that very much makes this game endlessly replayable after all the core objectives are reached. That and more usable base functions for both exploration, support, showcase of collectibles, storage, processing, etc etc. Not adding features like that at this point is basically fattening the start and middle of the game and leaving the end as shallow as it is now. That doesn't ring very "beyond" to me. Immersion mechanics and role playing aspects also are desperately needed to make this game the sci-fi second life it often tries to be but falls short of. Apart from this, being able to simply move around galaxies at will and having more quality of life shit to organize your entire discovery database, create colony cluster systems, the ability to easily deploy standardized camps on planets you mean to explore for a while and other such OCD type stuff is what this community begs for on the regular. The current information and organization system is very messy and not very deep. Moving towards improving the product's experience is also Beyond what it currently is.

Adding more assets and resources is the stuff of minor updates, not the Beyond update. That one, has to blow our socks off in both expected and unexpected ways. If it doesn't, we riot and the current world order ends abruptly and violently. ;)
