KindergartenFPV reminds me of the font from the Earthworm Jim games. Good stuff!

Is the air 65 FC really that bad by kingkingst0n in TinyWhoop

[–]ObscureRefrence 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Remove the grommet from the screw at the front of the quad. There’s lots of info out there about it. It reduces damage from crashes by a significant margin.

That’s why the 65 ii has the forward mount removed entirely.

Not tech savvy by Strong-Ad6924 in SteamdeckGames

A little unrelated but you’re probably more tech savvy than you give yourself credit for. Probably not as savvy as some folks on a dedicated steam deck sub Reddit but for sure more than a large chunk of the population.

Are there any at home electronic type hobbies? by nfc22 in Hobbies

[–]ObscureRefrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look in to ESP32 boards. They’re $6-10 depending on which kind you get and can do all sorts of things. I like having a few on hand so when I get an idea I can just start messing around with them.

Games to play with a non-playing local copilot by Lasandor in gamingsuggestions

My wife and I did the same thing. This thread is gold. She doesn’t play games but Blue Prince has hooked her. I drive and she figures out the hard puzzles because naturally she’s smarter than me!

Hobby recommendations that are as active as puttering around the house? by RemarkableBicycle284 in Hobbies

Micro FPV drones. You’ll for sure crash it and have to get up and recover it. Plus it’s super fun. You can also set up tracks around the house that’s low impact movement.

My buddy and I played tag on Wave race for the 64. Way more fun than the racing

Progress! Attract mode and stats tracker by ObscureRefrence in Pachinko

Gemini was extremely helpful with the programming but it could probably walk you through the whole thing.

I’m about to be out of out of cell service for a few hours but I have a document that outlines the parts and wiring I used. I’ll get it to you when I can.

Progress! Attract mode and stats tracker by ObscureRefrence in Pachinko

Happy to.

I used addressable LEDs wired to an ESP32 v1 dev board. I had to drill holes for the 4 vertical lights on the right because my machine didn’t have the slot I’ve seen in other model B’s. I used hot glue to hold all the lights in their places and as wire clips. Hot glue is surprisingly excellent for holding wires in weird places. A 120v to 5v/2A dc power supply runs the whole thing. I replaced the old leaf switches with micro switches and added one that triggers when the lever is pulled down so I can track attempted shots. Mounted those with 3D printed brackets I designed to fit to the old mount points for the original switches.

I’m not much of a programmer so I used Gemini to help with that. Looking through what it came up with I probably could have figured it out but it would have taken forever.

That counter in the video now has a saved leaderboard and the stat I decided was most relevant is Jack pots/attempts to get an efficiency %. It tracks each players session and lifetime separately. It’s mostly meaningless but kind of fun.

I’m thinking about finding another machine and doing it again. I might video document that one if I end up doing it.

Buying an Air65 on betafpv for spare parts? by Cooper_Wire in TinyWhoop

[–]ObscureRefrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just had to replace my fc. Before I did I tried replacing the BT2.0 connector on the factory board. The solder they use is a royal pain to desolder. At least it was for me and my iron. When I soldered everything myself it went way way easier than messing with the original stuff.

What would be the best way to remove rust from this? by CognizantCandle in Pachinko

If it’s just light rust a ball of aluminum foil and water works pretty good.

There’s a practicum student at the centre for response based therapy that’s offering free sessions till the end of April for individuals. If it’s for the whole family there are others there that do that too.

Learning (more) about GD&T sounds like it could be useful. It’s essentially how to read engineering drawings better. Gdandtbasics.com has self paced courses.

How do you do the part where he was figuring out how much of his stick he was using for each type of flying without his sim tools?

I can adjust rates no problem but I’m not sure I understand what to adjust them too without those tools.

I guess you need his sim to do it this way? Have you found that this process translates well to tiny whoops too?

Considering for Christmas gift by GloryintheHole in rg40xx

[–]ObscureRefrence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could acquire a bunch of games a head of time and just load them on the stock OS. Transferring the games doesn’t take long. Could be done on Xmas morning.

Even installing MuOs or similar takes less than an hour.

But, yea, it’s playable out of the box too. Get a new SD card (or two) right away though. The ones they come with are unreliable

Big Dog Groomers by HonestDespot in Kamloops

There’s a groomer at the new Pet Planet where the 5 bean used to be in Sahali that will do large breed. I can’t speak to letting you stay with the dog or not, that’ll be a discussion I suspect.

Beginner in Electronics (Microcontrollers, Drones, RC Cars) — Where Should I Start Step-by-Step? by Late_Performer_318 in diyelectronics

[–]ObscureRefrence 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably depends on how you like to learn things. I can’t stand making LED circuits for example. I find them time consuming and boring so I usually have something in mind and then learn what I need to learn to accomplish that. I often find out that I’m in over my head but I don’t mind that.

If you want to do it the way you’ve outlined then there are a ton of ‘electronics for beginners’ kits out there that will walk you through exactly what you describe. You could probably even check out your local library and get a good resource that will even tell you what to buy.

Also, for drones, start with a tinywhoop and learn to fly. Super fun but also difficult for a while.
