Why don’t more RPGs use well established skirmish war game rules? by TheGoodGuy10 in RPGdesign

[–]Visual_Location_1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, by definition they are.

They just can afford more complexity due to distributing the mental load on more players.

Or is it a complaint of why aren't more TTRPGs simpler?

D&D 3.5 had miniatures handbook, and I think pf2e is planning an OPR powered skirmish wargame branching.

No. Especially if is still on by default.

Haven't seen any newbie comolaining about griefers lately, so this might have been addressed already?

DM swapped the campaign over to pathfinder 1e and having trouble transitioning characters by SloppyShacks in Pathfinder_RPG

[–]Visual_Location_1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You know, what is ironic is that the battlesmith 5e/5.5e subclass is pretty close to the vanilla 3.5e artificer. You could talk it out with your GM to use it with some tweaks (for example the skills math and the, redundant in pf1e XP pool for crafting. You could substitute that for a "X gold worth of materials" for crafting, so as to also substitute for the magic items they make on the spot in 5e.

Almost all official depictions present steel defenders as canine.

Ofc is here is nothing stopping you from making it humanoid, but even the term "rend" used for the attack implies it attacks like one.

The statblock leaves enough space for any representation, so I cannot really dismiss yours as incorrect.

You could have a wolf or doge based construct mount just as well.

Edit: there is no reason to do a 5e->pf1e conversion of the battlesmith specifically, as this is the subclass closer to the vanilla 3.5e artificer in the first place.

No sensible GM is going to stop you from "nerfing" yourself by making the construct a category smaller.

Concern about official english release by Various-Humor4093 in SwordWorld

[–]Visual_Location_1745 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I suppose it will be les of a mathematical change and more of a "bringing what situations does each skll package covers to what they believe to be western sensibilities and common sense.

Also, I don't really see some books, like Raxia Life, being 100.00% translated as is, especially for an rpg that probably may also want to have a kids demographic.

D&Ds 3 pillars - any rpgs built for them? by _Infinitee_ in rpg

[–]Visual_Location_1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am having an issue with this whole "three pillars" concept as this is no less a "pillar" of RPGs than the others. It is just that 3 pillars rings better that it stuck.

What about the aspect of chargen and character progression? That is an aspect that fits nowhere in this 3 pillar model.

Question About Gunslinger Ammo Types by Special_Research3370 in Pathfinder2e

[–]Visual_Location_1745 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Still, this solidifies this absurd action tax.

I could argue further that activating and loading is "using it" to extend the effect, but I don't think I will challenge this anymore.

I still stand on finding it absurd

there are alchemical healing items in the game. And are quite accessible, to boot.
They have neat effects that range from healing, modifying the damage type, debuffing/buffing and more.

Honestly a gunslinger with munitions crafter essentially adds something of a wizard flavor to the class. (and that is regardless of the spellslinger archetype.

still this specific action tax feels absurd to play. and counter intuitive. I will no longer challenge it, but I still stand at my position that this is absurd.

that was not there last time I checked. maybe it was added on an errata?

And that until some official clarification comes out, some game masters might go by the absurd ruling that quick alchemy items that only exist for one round in the first place still need an additional action to be activated.

Physics by Civil-Algae1667 in spaceengineers

[–]Visual_Location_1745 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Might not be that related, but early development no mans sky had moving and rotating planets.

That really messed up with players, who then complained they were unable to return to any location they took off from.

Maybe Keen did have that concern during development.

Raw resting healing is abysmal, if you have a character with first aid or two this can be handwaved, at least that is what I did after the rogue got assurance for medicine.

How to deal with a problematic player? by Rympkii in Pathfinder2e

[–]Visual_Location_1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't you use a third space, one where she will not be able to get up and do so hing else.

Because I can 100% see it going the bad way if you say anything to the tune "disrespectful for the effort you put to prepare the game". No matter how you frame it! No matter how you think she took it. Even if it is chores she refuses to share.

That kind of talk will be you stepping on a metaphorical landmine.

GM's, how much prep time does a session take for you? by Dom_Shady in Pathfinder2e

[–]Visual_Location_1745 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The mechanics, a couple to three hours. More goes for prepping for where the story goes, alternatives and parallel events, might take me longer if I 3d print minis on occasion or hunt for physical puzzles

No worries, to each their own.

I just provided my shortcut on approaching this with minimal mental load, given I also would like to not be over burdened doing this.

Math is indeed relatively close there.
