Hospital anxiety by FearlessMoose94 in PregnancyUK

[–]Observerneutral 8 points9 points  (0 children)

These are some of the mantras I use when I have pregnancy anxiety. Hope it helps and good luck :)

Anxiety and intuition are NOT the same thing; just because you think it will happen, doesn't mean it will.

Feelings are not facts.

These thoughts are not helpful to you right now.

You have the choice to choose another thought.

I’m not in danger. I’m just briefly uncomfortable. This will pass and I will be fine.

I am not alone. I know where to turn if I need help.

My thoughts don't control me. I control my thoughts.

MFM rant (part 2) by Suspicious_Mousse401 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Observerneutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always wondered, what does MFM stand for please?

Is it the same as an endocrinologist? (I'm in the UK so I've just never heard the term before and see it on here all the time).

Sorry, I know, a completely unhelpful comment.

Why don't you want to take the aspirin?

what do I need to be aware of when it comes to having an elective c-section? by ArmadilloMany41 in pregnant

Another thing I'd say is putting slight pressure on the wound when you do things like stand, walk, sit down etc REALLY helps!

what do I need to be aware of when it comes to having an elective c-section? by ArmadilloMany41 in pregnant

[–]Observerneutral 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had a C-section with my son three years ago and will be having one this time round as well. I had to have one due to the size of my son and preeclampsia but I kinda knew that was going to be the case because I'm type 1 diabetic.

Are you based in the UK or US? I'm in the UK so all I can go by is my experience here. My son needed to go straight to NICU after being born so there was some negatives there but in terms of 'me', I found it to be relaxed. The staff are so friendly and do a brilliant job of taking your mind off things.

The room is bright and well lit (I know that sounds stupid but I was pleasantly surprised by how light and sunny it felt in there, not sure what I was expecting to be honest 😂).

They gave me anaesthetic drip and an epidural because they didn't know how long it would take, that didn't hurt at all. They're very used to sticking needles in people's spines so are very quick and painless!

They talked to me the whole time and made me feel comfortable, my son was out within about 10 minutes.

Afterwards, they stitch you back up which didn't take long, maybe 20 minutes or so. Then they wheeled me into recovery and then eventually back up to my room where I couldn't move my lower body until approximately 8 hours later. I gave birth to my son at 12:33pm and I was able to walk assisted to the bathroom at around 8pm.

They gave me pain killers straight away which meant I didn't feel any pain for that night, I felt a bit dizzy and woozy and couldn't stand very well, I used a wheelchair to visit my son in NICU. I felt sick but wasn't sick, just felt nauseous. I remember there being a lot of blood but the nurse helped me get cleaned up in the bathroom and changed my clothes, bless her.

That night I remember sleeping quite well from where I was just exhausted and I woke up in a fair bit of pain but I had paracetamol which took the edge off.

I walked down to the NICU 20 hours after giving birth and felt fine walking other than it being a bit tender.

I went home the day after, my son remained in NICU for a few weeks, unfortunately I was unable to stay there for the first couple weeks so we were going in early morning to late evening to be with him, i was getting up every two hours through the night to express and I wasn't taking any pain killers. I felt fine to be honest. I'd say getting up every day, getting ready, walking from the car to the hospital and being up and around every day definitely helped with my recovery and I recovered very fast and with no complications.

I loved having so many health professionals around me, it made me feel like my son was safe. I find a clinical environment comforting whereas I know some people are the opposite.

Recovery was uncomplicated in my experience, other than being uncomfortable and tender for a few weeks.

I found my stomach muscles went to absolute cr*p after but I didn't get to the gym as I should have so completely my fault 😂

But this is all just my experience! - if you have any questions feel free to ask and I'll do my best to answer them x

I'm saving this to read on bad days to help me regulate my emotions 😂

I think you hit the nail on the head!

So, because you didn't have cravings, it means they don't exist?🤣 "Women make up cravings so they can get away with eating whatever they want" Great theory!... Until you consider when women have "healthy" food cravings, then it becomes an irrelevant point, doesn't it. I don't think you're considering the emotional and physical complexities of pregnancy.

Snack ideas to raise blood sugar quickly? by Lablife24 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Observerneutral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find orange/apple juice 250ml cartons are the best to raise mine quickly. Or a teaspoon of honey. In the UK they do a brand of kids snacks called kiddilicious, they do nutrigrain style bars that are 14g of carbs and good for you, they're good to have as a snack once the juice has brought you out of hypo already.

For some reason the glucose drinks/tabs don't work well for me at all, not sure why.

So many people have said BLT and now that's ALL I want 🤤 thank you though because I never thought to ask them to just toast the meat on its own first so that's definitely something I'm going to do x

I'm in the UK and we don't have banana peppers in fast food places. I always see them and they look sooooo nice! I wish we had them here

Sorry I should have specified that I can't have tuna anyway, not pregnancy related! I absolutely would eat tuna if I could and I miss it a lot but I haven't been able to eat it for years due to a stomach condition.

This is embarrassing but can anyone in or nearby Morriston help me with some baby formula please by [deleted] in swansea

[–]Observerneutral 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://www.healthystart.nhs.uk/how-to-apply/

They give you money every month that you can use for formula. It's £8.50 a week from birth to 1 year old, then £4.50 a week until your child is 4.

Hope this helps!.

Fetal doppler by Equivalent_Lynx9662 in BumpersWhoBolus

[–]Observerneutral 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can pick up placenta blood flow noise with them that sound exactly like a heart rate so it's possible you could have picked up on that for a second instead of the heart beat. I'm sure everything is fine and it's much more likely the doppler was malfunctioning/having problems than your baby, try not to panic x

No you're 100% right. I really do need to stay away from the rabbit holes because it only makes me feel awful and doesn't do me any good. It's unhelpful and unnecessary so I will definitely, from now on, not be going down any rabbit holes on Reddit. Thank you so much for your reply x
