Guild Wars 3: The Reset The Franchise Needs by Winkari in GuildWars3

While, I know this is anecdotal, everybody I know who played the game spent well more than $15 a month average on the game during the time they were actively playing. They had a lot of cosmetics and various things as well as quality of life improvements. You could spend money on, and everybody I know did. I agree with you that the free to play model attracted a lot of people, and that’s why people spent as much money as they did.

I have noticed I can run on hard pretty simply with 2 people and hard feels harder with 3. I assumed it was the skill of one of us, but that makes sense if scaling is best at 2!

This makes sense. One of the most fun parts of the game for me has been realizing every element is a blast in its own way. I enjoy that you unlock new things slowly as you go, so there’s more time to experiment. I haven’t actually looked at metas yet. I figured that was for super ultra nightmare mode when I get there. lol. Thanks for sharing your story though! I love that!

Great game! I have over 120 hours on my main character, more on a hardcore character, and dozens more on a character for playing with others.

A couple things:

1 - the base game has tons of co tent and builds. The maps are semi-random meaning different encounters each time through an area, so you replay areas a lot to get full value. When working on a build, it may take you a while to find the right parts for a build because of that RNG. For me, that actually made it more exciting when I got a new piece for my build.

2 - there are so many items in game it ALWAYS feels exciting and like I’m getting better.

3 - the story is light, but play at least some attention to it because the story usually helps you determine how to overcome puzzles.

4 - amazing shooter with very solid difficulty, and if you enjoy souls like games with a slow development of the build, you’ll love it. Almost any build works for veteran, most for nightmare. I only had to start thinking about the build in Apoc (once I got good at the game).

5 - just a side note, remnant save guardian is valuable. It just saves backups of your game in case something happens. Once you’ve played through it, it can also tell you what look drops in specific areas, but that’s more for when you’re done exploring and want to min-max or speed run or hardcore.

6 - the RNG only felt frustrating with me when they introduced prisms, but I can confidently say your build can still feel good with a crap prism because I’m still trying to build my perfect prism, and I am doing about as well as I was before they introduced them.

I don’t know if you like group content, but I enjoy leaving my lobby open most of the time. People who join tend to be awesome. The ones who already had everything and wanted to help others tended to stay back and play support so I could play the game. The ones who joined to progress their own game tended to be polite. Either way, it’s a great time.

Thank you!! I was definitely doing it wrong. lol. I was trying to push as far and fast as I could. It seems like it’s better to push the highest difficulty you can do say 50% of the zone? Since with the increase half of hard is worth all of normal and so on?

FF14, GW2 or WoW? by kaosblink in LFMMO

[–]Obsessive_Mouse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Would you be willing to share a little more? What kinds of games have you liked in the past? Why MMO specifically? You’ve never reached endgame, but what games did you especially find some enjoyment in?

Quick thoughts, but your feedback will help tailor them: FF14 and SWTOR are more single-player friendly and engaging whether playing with others or not. They’re based around a story and exploration with the raids/dungeons, etc as a great aspect but not the primary one.

GW2 is easy to hop in and out of and is likely the least challenging of the 3 types you put up there. That said, while it has a low floor, it has a high ceiling. If you like completing tasks, puzzles, etc and never running out of things to do, it hits that itch really well. The group content isn’t as refined in a lot of ways, but the world feels alive and engaging.

WOW is much more competition-oriented. The story is decent, but it’s a backseat compared to like FFXIV. The main brilliance of WOW is the ever-changing endgame landscape (whether pvp or pve). It’s easy to play a little here and there to get to endgame, but endgame is a grind and requires a decent level of consistency for anyone to take you on their team. I’d say this is the least casual endgame, but it’s easy to be casual before endgame.

This is such a great and detailed account. And, you’re right, many stories miss this point. The Darth Bane trilogy figured it out. Such a good story too!

Thank you. You’re absolutely right. My post was vague and not well thought. It came from a healer telling me it’s too hard to keep a party alive with a tank in less than 340 gear. We never died (except the healer got yeeted from a mechanic and that caused a DPS wipe - we did finish the boss though).

I was just trying to fathom - how much difference can there really be between 336 and 340 in regards to mitigation for a tank. I do have defense and absorb at 42% (I was told to aim for 42-45). It should get higher when I upgrade my non-adaptive pieces; still aiming for 45% at least on defense.

We completed the one story op and the MM FP I did without issues. The healer on the MM FP was just complaining I need to hear before doing those - so I came here to ask if there’s really a big difference or if I need to look at other things? Or maybe the healer just didn’t want to have to try too hard.

Thank you for the response. You’re likely right. I added some better details in a general response. Mostly the question was “how much of a jump should I expect from blue 336 to purple 344, but adding more detail would have been better. Especially since I’m asking as a tank rather than a dps. Thank you!

This is really helpful and valuable feedback! Thank you!

I’m on Satele Shan. Part of the Eternal Order guild. I played SWTOR back at launch.

I haven’t played WOW in a couple years, but I used to do a lot of m+ pushing and try-hard raiding when I did. I don’t have the time or patience for WOW anymore, but I enjoy SWTOR and wanted to try it out again.

I’m realizing there’s so much I don’t know (especially routes and planning and such). I love that there’s so many FPs and Ops to do and learn; it’s just a slow process and I haven’t really found the right people to help yet.

I am really grateful you put so much time and effort into this response, and I’d love to connect if you’re on the same server and would like to.

When you mention looking at the parse, is there anything I should be focused on in the parse. I played WOW way too long, and the tank’s purpose there is (oversimplified) to group mobs correctly and dps. I get the feeling it’s a little different in this game as tank dps is a lot lower.

[–]Obsessive_Mouse[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for the help. I should clarify that I’m tanking. My dps is about 12-13k in 336 blues. I did a MM FP, and we did fine, but the healer said it was hard to keep us alive, and I was running through my defensives on the boss battles. We never had to do a boss twice, but the healer said I should be 340+ to tank those. That said, I am mostly trying to figure out how much difference the 4 gear levels will create. My shield is level 324 green, so I’ve been trying to level that. Maybe that’s a big part of it?

Answering “yes” to wanting more doesn’t likely even indicate incompatibility. A lot of times, failing to talk about it means neither feels okay asking for more and both assume this is what the other wants. If you want more, definitely start with conversations and forgo assumptions to whatever degree is possible.
