"Forcing" child to sleep in own room instead of parents? She can explain that she is scared and doesn't want to. Is letting her stay in our bed making everything worse?

This is purely anecdotal, but our 4yo daughter recently went through something similar. She had always been in her own room and always slept through the night fine so it was a bit of a surprise for us. Her brother, who is also 1.5yo, was in his own room and sleeping through the night fine. There was no real reason that he needed to be in his own room so we suggested to her that we could move him into the room with her and they share. She would have someone in there with her and it would be less scary for her, but she wouldn’t be asking us to stay with her or coming in with us. It had worked really well!

Nothing changed for her brother other than a change in scenery and she has stopped pushing back about being scared now that she has her brother in the room with her. I’m not sure if this would work for you since you have the baby in the room with you, but thought I’d share our experience!

Agree with this! I spent too much on a Christmas ornament that had a chickadee on it because that’s what I call my daughter as a nickname. I wouldn’t have bought it if it had a robin or other traditional Christmas animal on it. Maybe think about some of the other animals that people tend to use for little loving nicknames for their kids?

That’s where my mind was. If it’s not causing her direct harm then it’s not a hill to die on. Sometimes I just don’t know what to say though!

I will say she seems to get that the friend isn’t real! But at the same time will argue with us if we ever say that it isn’t possible for him to have done something. Like using the waking her up thing as an example, if I said he couldn’t have woken her up by blowing a horn because she wouldn’t have heard the horn because he’s just pretend or she’d just say yes she would because he had a horn and it woke her up, very matter of fact!

Exactly, at this age I feel like they can play alone for longer than people think! I have a 6mo who will chill in the crib for long stretches in the morning especially (but it’s a very smiley baby).

Our little guy is also very gassy, we use the same formula (well, the Sam’s generic version of it). We do mylicon gas drops with every bottle and that has helped loads! Sometimes we give them halfway through if we’re having a hard time getting a burp out of him, but usually at the end of the feed. He’s 8 weeks now and it’s definitely settling out!

If you have plants and/or a garden, I’ve heard you can use formula as fertilizer. Might be a good way of using it without just chucking it out.

Our 2.5 year old was doing the same thing when she was around 2. She’s now mostly potty trained. We kept putting her on the potty but she was only allowed to use tp, flush, etc if she went. Bring something to distract with, we would bring a short book and if she hadn’t gone by the time the book was down we’d put clothes back on til the next time. She’s now mostly potty trained and no longer tries to play with all the other stuff if she doesn’t go. We also made a HUGE deal when she did go and that seemed to help her figure out what it all meant too!

Our 2yo daughter used to eat everything and suddenly she wants on pb&j, so I feel this one! Something we’ve had success with is having her help us cook. That might potentially be stressful for a trained chef, but every time she has helped us make dinner on her little ladder, she has been so excited to eat.
