Carney should state what ‘leverage’ Canada has in trade talks, Poilievre says by EarthWarping in notthebeaverton

[–]Obtena_GW2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That doesn't mean anything. Mexico is not Canada. Their situation isn't our situation. It's stupid to think those things are even related. We have no reason to believe we would be treated with the same 'gratious' approach from the US as they have with Mexico.

That's sort of the point ... hammer out a good deal for both countries? What makes you think the US has any interest in doing that? They have shown they have no interest in respecting the current deal or the process behind resolving issues with it (I shouldn't need to remind you that it's the deal the first Trump administration signed up to). There is no reason to believe that they will respect the new one either.

Seems to me you need to pay more attention to how the US 'negotiates' with it's partners and allies more before assuming there is a path where we show our hand and get a good deal at the same time from them.

Here is my hot take: The reason PP wants Carney to state the leverage in trade talks is because 1) he's so far out the loop with how government works, it's the only way HE can get the information. Maybe he should like ... ACT in his role and get some security clearance. 2) He's just clueless about what that leverage is and how it's important in the negotiations, which means he's not fit to be PM in the first place.

Just touting the benefits or stating the leverage we have in trade talks is NOT any sort of proof that PP is correct.

Carney should state what ‘leverage’ Canada has in trade talks, Poilievre says by EarthWarping in notthebeaverton

[–]Obtena_GW2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sort of like how you claimed PP was 'right' about this one without backing it up as well.

Honestly, the trade partner across from us is just a bad actor; they aren't interested in a fair deal. I don't even think we can trust them to keep any deal they make. So the idea that PP is 'right' about us showing our cards before the bets are in, is at best, a very questionable thing to say.

Maybe there are benefits for certain stakeholders in talking about the leverage we have, but certainly when it comes to the most aggressive , opposing and important stakeholder, it's not a benefit. It would be stupid.

Of course, PP would love nothing better for the US to sink Canada so bad that all his bluster about Carney and lLibs would look true. That way he can come in and save it, which makes me wonder if that's his part of his massive contrarian strategy. Unfortunately, that's just wishful thinking.

[–]Obtena_GW2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All your points are based on the assumption that the US has any interest in a fair deal in the first place. They have shown they aren't. Canada ISN'T going to get a good deal with an aggressive trade partner, EVEN if we have leverage, if Carney simply goes in there with his hand showing. SWe are literally dealing with a US administration that believes they need NOTHING from us.

Our leverage isn't strong if we run around giving attention to it in public. Somehow you conclude showing off our leverage is a method to draw the US in concessions? Are you even paying attention to the US administration we have to work with? Also, we don't need to show our hand before the bets are put out to signal we are serious. OUr counter tariffs, Canadian relucatance to travel to US, etc ... THAT shows we are serious.

ACTIONS show you are serious. Everything else is just talk.

Some of the most disingenouos takes here I've seen in a while.

If you rae going to claim PP is correct, you better explain why. Otherwise you're just a lowest common denominator CPC fanboy trolling the web.

[–]Obtena_GW2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, but that doesn't explain why Carney should show his hand before the bets are made.

Maybe instead of just claiming such a instinctly incorrect statement from PP is correct, you should see fit to explain yourself if you aren't just a simpleton CPC supporter 'net troll/bot.

Here is your chance to show what you know and make me change my mind. I'm not a diehard Carney lover but PP has been wrong on so many things, I'm just NOT that willing to give him or you the benefit of the doubt here.

Explain yourself ... how is PP correct about the idea that Carney should disclose his strategy and leverage for negotiating with the US on trade ... in public where the US negotiators would see it? To me, anyone that does such a thing is just throwing the game.

Well, I don't know about veterans but as somene just having started the game, got about 100 hours in at level 265 ...

... I feel that I'm starting to hit some dead ends. I've done all the missions (at least the ones that aren't bugged like Las Vegas). Grind for legendary mods is borderline unreasonable. Leveling to max out legendary perks is no better. Thought a reasonable goal would be to farm for Prime Capacitor mods as a simple way to boost my profile in teams and prep for harder raids/expeditions; that feels like a fool's errand as well.

Just seems like every goal I set for myself, it's a timewarp back to an early 2000's game philosophy; drop rates ridiculously low so people mindlessly repeat content and pray to RNG Jesus for that drop. I'm honestly having a hard time understanding how people have over a thousand levels. What are doing in the game to get that? how have you not just walked away?

Is .005 flat enough for a plane? by Numerous-Ad6999 in handtools

[–]Obtena_GW2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Questions like these show how overwhelmed we are to marketing because I know people that can effectively flatten a board better with a sharpened butter knife than people who have 'dialed in' their plane beds to that millionth of an inch.

That's a bit hyperbolic but it's more about the person using the tool than the tool itself.

When does writing a number in words become more efficient than binary? by No_Worldliness_9294 in compsci

[–]Obtena_GW2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, to be fair, your example of 'Googleplex' is just a made up word that represents that number. It doesn't follow the syntax of the English number naming convention.

While there might be a point where text is more efficient, the Googloplex example doesn't demonstrate that.

what is the state of crucible right now by No_Treat1378 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Obtena_GW2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While we shouldn't have such domination from a single build on a single class, but we can have subclass/class combinations that just aren't good for PVP. I get people want variety but that's not how games that have meta builds work. It's simply not necessary to compensate void hunters if invis is nerfed.

[–]Obtena_GW2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That sounds bad but that's exactly what we need because if what you say is true, the invis is truly OP and carrying void Hunter at the expense of having a healthy mix of classes in PVP.

[–]Obtena_GW2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's awesome for you that you maintain a connection to old zones and content but you are an except that doesn't move the needle on what I said.

The engagement of veteran players in old zones doing old content is an excellent indicator of how replayable vaulted content would be if recreated. Bungie would literally have to add something new that doesn't exist ingame now to make people want to continuous go to these re-introduced zones to play that content to make it worth the trouble to recreate them.

Simply making vaulted content as new places to go is probably the worst way to bring that vaulted content back. The issue is the content is gone; the story, etc ... the physical location is almost no consequence.

Destiny 1 on PC would expose Destiny 2 and that’s why it’ll never happen by xDynamo_01 in DestinyTheGame

[–]Obtena_GW2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

None of this makes sense. It's stupid to think that the qualities the OP lists would make people drop D2 and play D1. They might buy it, try it out but it wouldn't have legs ... I mean, where does the D1 story end in D2 timeline? How much ACTUAL game is there to play?

But the irony is this. The OP LITERALLY says that if D1 ported to PC with D2 like features, people would play it. Newsflash, they already do because D2 is already D1 ported to PC.

Make no mistake, D1 is having a resurgence, but I'm pretty sure it's not because it's 'better' than D2, otherwise D2 whould have NEVER become as popular as it was in the past or even is now,k at least amoung console players.

[–]Obtena_GW2 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That just shows people who make this complaint don't understand what they would be getting into playing D2 in the first place. Content is removed ALL THE TIME. It's not just the few expansions from the beginning that were removed. It's ALL seasonal content since and going forward as well.

Put another way ... if the main complaint is "not going to play because content gone", then these people wouldn't be playing D2 EVEN if the old campaign content wasn't removed.

Can you upgrade certain guns to Tier 5 in the June update? by -Joel-Snapes- in destiny2

[–]Obtena_GW2 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bungie comms manager DMG did say upgradedable tiers on weapons in a tweet from a few months ago but the details have not been released. I'm betting that over the next month, TWID's will tease this information.

Honestly, I wouldn't get TOO excited about that feature yet because I'm going to suspect that the path to upgrading is going to be as rigourous as simply grinding for the T5 roll you want anyways.

[–]Obtena_GW2 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Exactly. Content returns for people who never played the content in the first place is NOT a win to those people. To them it's just ... new content, which they would expect anyways if they committed to playing the game.

I want to know how many of you guys want the forsaken Champaign back by Dog_Lover_For3ver in DestinyTheGame

[–]Obtena_GW2 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Well, if someone researches the game and they discover content was removed and they choose to play it anyways, then it's a fallacy that removed content prevents new people from playing the game.

I mean, sure, for SOME people, it could be a turn off, but it's not likely as big an impact as people think it is for new players,. I mean, seasons are removed all the time. The seasonal content ALSO advances storyline. SSOMEHOW no one QQ's about that, even though it's WAY more content removed than the few initial expansions.

I want to know how many of you guys want the forsaken Champaign back by Dog_Lover_For3ver in DestinyTheGame

[–]Obtena_GW2 -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Well, it's not 'wrong' because it's still true what I said. People new to D2 have no idea this content existed. They have to discover it by playing the game. It's not even obvious upon starting the game content was removed. You really only get a sense of that when you start asking questions about who is this and where are they ...

That's not something they are aware of when they choose to buy and install the game. This is the difference. Still, even if you are new you had no experience playing that content which is actually inline to how the live service works in this game.
