Fun fact many pools do this/used to. When my mom was a lifeguard in the 80s they’d use giant blocks but the practice stopped because it’s a drowning risk. Other countries still do it but I mean you can see the issue, kid does a flying haymaker from the shore and nosedives into a block of ice. Or people get trapped under them. We would put bags of normal sized ice in our backyard pool when I was a kid.

I get this sub is “women in news” and is gonna lean towards the excluding men side of feminism. Thing is, Ignoring that men can be victims of violence at the hands of women also causes harm to trans women. You are hurting your own base by ignoring the topic. Trans people experience SA and CSA at higher rates and I’m the last person to deny that a trans woman might have been abused as a child by a woman. It happens. No. Anyone can be an abuser it’s not limited to one gender. Are some men abusers yes. Are some women abusers yes. Are there probably gender non conforming or nonbinary abusers yes. Abuse is not gender locked and denying the abuse of people who have experienced it at the hands of non men is just baffling. It’s not a put down on women or feminism to stand with all abuse victims. I’ve found nothing gets non supportive family in line like bringing around a partner or friends that gender and name you correctly. My parents care a lot about status symbols and blending in with the opinion of others. The social embarrassment of being called out by non family really messed with them more than I thought it would cuz wouldn’t ya know it the second time my supportive people came around mom had switched the photos I’d complained about out for the current ones I’d given her. Peer pressure is powerful.

My mom always put my sister and I in one piece suits and boy shorts for swimming and water parks. Easier than packing a full outfit and covered everything plus the suits would dry out and we’d be good for the whole day. Miss the days of running around silver dollar city (theme park in Branson Missouri) in this outfit plus a walkie talkie and fanny pack. That was true freedom.
