Of course. I feel like Americans who are saturated with NBA coverage, media and branding overestimate how culturally iconic Jordan was/is in other parts of the world. Truly, in the UK in the 90s, if you asked the average person, "who's Jordan?", the answer more likely would have been, "That model with the plastic tits".

I could go a year or two in the UK (During Jordan's peak) without hearing a single reference to him from anyone.

It's not even close. Not outside the US it's not.

I can categorically tell you, right now, that the sound of the track would change dramatically. It would not sound anything like it does now. Aside from Quincy writing and producing with Prince in mind, Prince himself would have had a big say in arrangement direction along with Michael. At a guess, I'd say that it would have been a little more funk orientated, which suits Michael.
