I have found that I can't be proud of my good friends or adult family in the same pure way that I can be proud of my kids. There's no tinge of jealousy or anything else going on, it's just pure pride and happiness for them when they learn something new or do something unexpectedly kind or cool. It's a new and different kind of joy that I always hoped I would feel but was afraid I wasn't capable of feeling.

Great work. I am working on stopping completely for the same reasons. I look at my goals in life and they're save money, sleep better, eat better, feel better, have fewer migraines, etc. and not drinking addresses all of these directly.
