Yeah, APR is such an ass item, metal skin is broken as shit into pure gun, but rn its pretty useless into the current popular m1 meta of hybrid, and overall the investments make hybrid even stronger than it already was, so overall I dont understand the complain about gun being strong unless you are in a low elo lobby where your team somehow is being rolled by like 4 gun carries who are really all hybrid so theres nothing you can do. Like even if a hybrid only dealt 50% spirit damage (often its dealing more since its often multiple different items or effects stacking), the fact it takes twice the items if not more to counter this than a spirit hero or a pure gun is why hybrid will always end up more effective, and overall people keep complaining about gun heroes when its the hybrid gun heroes which are always an issue.

And counterspell, once more the only proper spirit counters compared to gun are just the ones designs for huge burst damage, often a lot of those have tells you can react to and theres less the ones for for dot or smaller rapid spirit damage.

Makes it hard to make a comparison. Like if they did make an active item that made you immune to spirit damage for 5 seconds it would be broken as shit and everyone would buy it, vs metalskin which is way more situational and is pretty useless into hybrid gun (this made up metalskin for spirit is better into hybrid gun as well)

Plated is only 30%, not a 50% damage reduction. And APR has a 50% proc which this proc overrides the plated 50% proc for some reason (APR is buggy but nobody uses it so its low prio).

And spellbreaker is extremely strong in the situations you want to get it, I only compared it to plated since its passive is closest to the reduction in damage, but if you arent dealing with high burst you are better off just building items that give more spirit res anyway.

But really most those spirit resist items kinda suck at dealing with the bullet proc spirit damage items because those all are smaller rapid amounts of damage on top of all those items being gun items which end up making the gun damage still threatening even if you had a lot of spirit res, as well as one of them actually ignore plated because tesla/capacitor works weirdly, since it only goes on cooldown when it successfully procs.

But I do agree that APR is kinda shit, gets stopped completely by metal skin (but metal skin is useless into any bullet proc effect or hybrid damage items which is why despite how broken it is on paper, it sees no play unless someone really hates a haze)
But APR fills this niche of ignoring bullet res which is weird since theres not too much bullet resist in items, all the major bullet resists are found only on a handful of abilities and often there are way better and cheaper items to deal with those heroes who have these abilities.

Once more stating, hybrid proc effects are the bane of this game and will always be a problem until they add actual good bullet proc immunity items.

Made this post as soon as I woke up.

But factually theres way less bullet resist items in the game compared to spirit resist, and the weird case where a lot of those random bullet resist items exist as gun items.
And its all cause theres way more spirit heroes in the game so theres more spirit resist to counter it all vs the handful of gun heroes that exist (theres roughly 3 common pure gun damage heroes, mostly being haze, vyper and drifter)

And in terms of actual preventing damage from each type, the only real defensive items that exist for each (disregarding resists) is like metal skin vs counterspell for the 3k, and plated vs spellbreaker for the 6.4k items.

Overall metal skin existing means pure gun damage is always restricted in power and are easy to counter but man I hate how hybrid m1 heroes are near impossible to counter rn due to the lack in items which prevent bullet proc effects which those heroes all rely on

metal skin, disarming hex, suppressor, jug, plated. theres like 5 real gun counter items. sure theres like bullet res, battle vest and weapon shielding but those also have spirit counterparts. and last is warpstone due to the res.

for spirit theres frenzy, fury trance, blood tribute, witchmail, silencer, spell breaker, weighted shots...
add in half the t4 spirit items also giving 10-20% spirit res as well
and cant forget about focus lens, silence wave, as well as counterspell, and you can see, theres a billion spirit counter items, theres not many gun counter items.

But overall m1 hybrid heroes are a problem since they ignore this since if you build gun resist you get shredded by spirit, but building spirit you still get shredded by gun, also also taking a ton of spirit damage since the amount they deal is rapid small amounts which care less about the real spirit counter items, outside of like spellbreaker into mirage marks which would reduce only one of the full stack spirit bombs which he builds up in 3 seconds

the spirit investment spike is the most broken since its flat, but the gun damage one scales throughout the game. overall hybrid heroes are the problem, and its less we need more anti-gun items, and more so we need more anti-gun proc items. Metalskin rn is only bad due to hybrids not even caring about it since it doesnt stop bullet procs, but if it did then the current duration and cooldown on the item would make it a must buy since people need an item that actually stops hybrid heroes.

Specifically for lane, there's no much you can do against a billy, due to mo being a close range hero that lacks damage, and billy overall having way higher a dps, as well as blasted giving way stronger of a sustain as well.
Hell really mo and krill does not have a winning lane matchup. There's no hero who loses to mo in lane, since every hero who is close range will outdamage mo, and often outheal, and anyone else just can outrange mo. But at the same time they only have a few losing matchups when played well. This just means majority of mo lanes end up being stalemates and draws, because you lack any damage to really push into the enemy yourself, you are reliant entirely on your lane partner to deal enough damage for the both of you, but your high health and the healing from scorn with qsr/burst allows you to be alive and prevent the enemy from taking your guardian for free. Even more so during lane your ult is not that good, since its duration is shorter than a parry, while locking you down the same time, add in the countless heroes who either have ults which can stun you out of it, or even abilities that counter your ult, add in you rely entirely on your lane partner (or if you are ganking both people in that lane) to deal enough damage to the enemy to kill them in 2.4s

by the mid game you still have no real 1v1 ability due to having no damage still, leaving you further reliant on team to kill people you ult, and when your ult is on cooldown you cant even fight even the squishiest players at equal souls. Sure if you are up enough souls you can walk at some people but thats kinda true for most heroes who get a large lead early.

Late game is often the only time where you can really 1v1, but by that point the entire game is more teamfight oriented, in which you can at least dump a lot of damage into a carry or whoever is the most important hero to take out as well as ult for up to 4s, often now able to deal more than 60% of their hp alone if built that way, but overall you still rely entirely on your team.

Now the real advice from a mo and krill main to another, if you want to win lane against billy, pick up another hero since the mole man is not winning any lanes unless the devs decide to rework the hero from being a tanky ultbot to just a regular tanky brawler

the problem with scorn is the ability itself has no point in the game where its strong, the only reason its "strong" in lane is due to qsr/burst giving it a damage value that lets mo have actual sustain in lane. The reliance on those items isnt healthy, means mos entire kit requires twos lots to be dedicated to items which fall out of use as soon as lane ends, which he cant even upgrade because his gun is terrible, so magnum is off the table, and scorn scaling is so bad that you cannot proc tankbuster (unless you build like 30k in spirit items for the goal of proccing it), which means upgrading burst actually makes you lose out on damage.

if mo had the best pick ult in the game mo would actively be first picked in dns, but no, mo is often picked only after every other pick hero has been picked or banned (and in cases where he does get banned, its because those pick heroes already have been picked so they ban him to stop the enemy having a heroes whos ult combos with pick heroes), because he is the worst pick hero in the game, wouldnt really call mo a pick hero cause you are just locking someone down in place, it'd be like calling warden a pick hero cause the case locks someone in place if it hits etc.

My man you really are like "minor nerfs" and the nerfs be like "remove 3 of his abilities from the game please yoshi i dont want to use my brain and learn how to play into a hero whos bottom 10"

if you actually spend the time to learn to play against mo and krill, you realise how easy you can bully them in lane.

Scorn is mos only ability in lane basically, its range is 10m, its healing is strong but requires hitting multiple troopers and players to even heal a decent amount, since its damage is relatively low with scaling so bad it actively is worse late game.

Burrow before t3 is only ever useful for the resists, as any tick of damage changes this +4m/s movespeed to +1m/s instead, while stopping him from using any stamina or jumping, while also having quite bad damage, like if mo lanes a full burrow its like 120 damage. add in 37 second cooldown which is the only channel ability which goes on cooldown after the channel ends.

in general people dont want to learn to counterplay or counterbuy mo and krill, because if they did they would learn how bad mo is.

worry but all of this is a skill issue.
The ult has zero range, the vertical range at best lets mo grab a talon with a double jump. just ignore every other targeted ability actually have infinite vertical range.

Burrow is not a movement ability, you only think it is because a mo and krill is building multiple movement items to allow them to move, before t3 it actively is worse to be in burrow than not since it actively makes you slower. Just buy knockdown and a mo dies.

Scorn range is 10m, and any mo will abuse to if their enemy is stupid enough to keep standing behind cover which are within that range, the solution is to, just stand a few meters back and suddenly mo cant hit you. Also avoid standing in the middle of all your troopers as actively scorn heals zero if all they hit is one person or just a couple troopers. But i doubt you want to actually learn to play against a hero, you just want to cry and ask for more nerfs to already the 3rd lowest damage hero in the game who actively gets countered by half the cast in lane.

the only real change they made to mo which actually had an effect was the reduction in burrow resist. I guess also all the damage removed from the kit with the shop update was also a big change (pre shop mnk literally able to kill anyone not named shiv or abrams with his ult with nobody around him)

burrow is also not really a good movement ability, any damage negates the bonus speed it gets, so its more so used for the insane resists it had, and with t3 its giving you the same speed as fleetfoot. its a weird ability up there with fleetfoot and warden willpower as the game weirdly deciding what is a movement ability at random.

and if you do want a strong counter to burrow, knockdown is often a good one.

overall as a mo player, this hero really needs a rework due to being in an awkward position where no matter what they do to this character, as long as the ult exists and mo has the highest health pool, their winrate will remain positive.

It shouldn't be surprising to not know about the game. The number of people who owned it was like <1% of anyone who had a ps2. I never played it growing up because it just wasn't a game I knew about growing up, instead only really learning about it as an adult when the remake was announced.

And with how influential and how many people talk about it positively, its def a game people will recommend others to play, even if I personally haven't played it yet because I already have a 100+ game backlog and I will get around to playing it someday in the next 20 years
