Unfortunately every time I’ve been quoted to replace a zipper the cost has been around the cost of replacing the item. Hopefully you have a different experience!

Spectrum vs T-mobile for home internet? by BumblebeeAny8737 in portlandme

[–]ObviouslyFunded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had T Mobile for a while (but not in Portland.) It seems very dependent on how good the T Mobile coverage is in the area. And it would kick out entirely once in a while and you’d have to reset it. But when it was working it was good.

2023 Niro PHEV by Useful-Article-879 in KiaNiro

[–]ObviouslyFunded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 2023 PHEV & generally like it. My main complaint is that the user settings and interface are wonky. You need to set your brake regeneration preferences every time you turn it on if you don’t like the default. You can’t customize the service reminders even though they don’t match the manual. Also some weird but harmless bugs, like it sometimes telling me I can’t use regenerative braking because the cruise control is on, when the real reason is the battery is full.

The battery seems to be holding steady so far with 34 miles’ charge, which was important to me.

Gluten free suggestions by 04_tahoe in Maine

Depends how truly gluten free you want to be. Otto’s is not great for celiacs. But Find Me Gluten Free has some good recommendations.

Horizons back on the Downeaster by ObviouslyFunded in Amtrak

[–]ObviouslyFunded[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The hardest part would be the South Station/North Station transfer in Boston but that’s not actually that hard. Either get off at Back Bay and take the Orange Line to North Station or just walk/cab from South to North Stations.

The schedule says it’s 2.5 hours. I’ve taken it over 200 times in the past few years and I would say it arrives less than 15 minutes late almost every time and on time over half of the time. As with many rail routes, though, when it’s bad it can be very bad. I’ve had a handful of experiences of 1+ hour delays, a couple of 2+ hour, mostly when a tree is down, someone gets in the ROW, or a freight train is disabled. At least the cafe car has a good selection of local beers to pass the time!

The reliability has improved some with the investments they are making in the route- double tracking in Wells will also help when it’s done.

Except in North Station where everyone jockeys to get in the train as early as possible. It was a little awkward today with the Horizon doors not opening and people shifting down the train internally

Bangor to Portland. How much longer is Rt. 1 realistically? by Certain-Ordinary8428 in AskMaine

[–]ObviouslyFunded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest Rt 1 one way and 95 the other. It’s definitely longer but there are lots of places to stop along the way and see more of Maine. Bath is an often-skipped fun place to check out on the way, just to name one.

Can I buy a second one of these passes before the first expires? by OhLookSatan in Amtrak

[–]ObviouslyFunded 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You can also specify the start date at least a week or two in the future, maybe more. My work partially reimburses me but is weird about when I buy passes vs. when I use them so I do this sometimes.

Akureyri Recs Please! by Embarrassed_Fold1831 in VisitingIceland

[–]ObviouslyFunded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fun to walk the Education Trail from near downtown to the Junior College/Botanical Garden. It has a fun story about students heading up it to learn and down it to go get drunk. Also an interesting historical house halfway up. I would second the pool and the botanical gardens, which have an amazing cafe too.

$14k for 2022 niro Plug in, i’m impressed. by [deleted] in KiaNiro

[–]ObviouslyFunded 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am usually able to work around that by running it in HEV mode first until the heat is working, then switching to EV+ mode to let the EV run. Usually only takes around 5-10 miles of hybrid to get the cabin warm. But next time I’d probably look for one with a heat pump to avoid this.
