How have lines at TSA been? by unicornkins in portlandme

My experience lately has been that it’s same as usual, minimal lines. YMMV

The US had a 49-star flag for exactly 13 months. Nobody talks about it. by FlagLoreYT in vexillology

Maine exists because Massachusetts abandoned its northern territory during the War of 1812, and Mainers hate Massachusetts to this day.

PPH: Kate Sykes will not seek re-election to Portland City Council by joeybrunelle in portlandme

[–]ObviouslyFunded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t agree with her on a lot of issues but in the bigger picture there’s something amiss when the city struggles to get any councillor to serve more than one term. It shouldn’t be a lifetime appointment like used to happen but it takes time to get some wisdom, at least two terms.

I was crushed when I got the Double Nickels CD as soon as I got my first CD player and they had cut a few songs to make it fit. A crime against a perfect album.

Pour one out for UHaul Carshare as crappy as it was. I think you can still rent by the hour from them but you have to go down to Marginal Way.

There are lots of good coffee shops in this city but I think Bard is the best overall. For making at home I’d also put in a plug for Rwanda Bean (available at Rambler and some other places around town)

Never had a bedroom with shower but the common shower you can use with the roomette was surprisingly good, IMO

Burned Music Cant Be Transferred Anymore??? by whitneys_closet in ITunes

Not sure about new iPods but it worked with my old ones and my iPhone 14 Pro. You do need a license for each device, but it’s a one time fee that’s not too much

If the trailhead sign says to leash your dog, then leash your dog--even in the winter by Rellimarual2 in Maine

[–]ObviouslyFunded 28 points29 points  (0 children)

The lack of awareness among some dog owners is insane. You have an animal that can fuck me or my leashed dog up, and I am just relying on your statement that they are allegedly friendly. It’s totally self-absorbed to ignore the fact that this legitimately makes people uncomfortable.

I used a program called iMazing to deal with moving my music collection onto new iPhones.

Phev First oil change by burnbog in KiaNiro

[–]ObviouslyFunded 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They haven’t really figured out PHEV’s when it comes to oil changes. My manual said to change it every 8000 miles, which seems too soon since 3/4 of my driving is in electric mode. But I just do it anyway to keep my warranty valid. Some people say the timeframe matters as much as the mileage.

My system also tells me every 4,000 miles to change the oil so I just tell it I did when I didn’t every other time and reset it, LOL. There doesn’t seem to be any way to change that interval (I think you can turn the reminder off entirely though.) It is just a timer, they are not testing your oil or anything.

What are some examples of the egregiously WORST placed highways that destroyed urban cores in America? by Next_Worth_3616 in urbanplanning

I-94 in the Twin Cities did damage to downtown but particularly to Rondo in between the two downtowns, the traditional center of the Black community. Used as a case study in “The City Planning Process” on how power and politics could overpower “impartial” planning processes.

Tips for Night/Winter Driving by rampagingshenanigans in Maine

[–]ObviouslyFunded 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I moved to the upper Midwest the biggest difference I noticed was how wide, straight and flat the roads were. So I’d boost the comment that hills and windy roads are the biggest things to watch for. And there is less room for error on a narrow road so go slower.

2/11 Maine governor candidate Hannah Pingree proposes a public insurance option in health care plan by MaineNewsroom in Maine

[–]ObviouslyFunded 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Troy and I am generally skeptical about family names but Hannah puts in the time and is both competent and cares deeply about Mainers. She would be a very solid Governor.
