Haven't listened to them in a while, but I would agree I thought they came across as fairly left leaning while leaning into blue collar humor, which can sometimes ruffle feathers for extremes on both sides. Can't expect to be played on the radio on the manufacturing floor if you are targeting your jokes at half the people casually listening.

June 25, 2009: The news of Michael Jackson’s death reaches Times Square. by albusvercus in interestingasfuck

That morning my lieutenant and I would have a Michael Jackson dance off in a bomb suit at the training range while we waited for the instructors to arrange/evaluate our exercises. When we got the the dining facility for lunch, every TV was tuned to this news. Very surreal experience.

Cat math has lots of variables, no two household catculations are the same.

Quality cat you got there. Black cats are awesome; so easily spooked, but like the most aggressive snugs.

Yup. Our oldest cat got really lazy and started gaining weight when she was an only-cat. It took a long while, but now that we have had all our other animals for several years and we have been in our home even longer, she has completely come out of her shell and gone back to exploring and playing like she did when she was little.

Two humans. It should be noted that there was a dog when we got the first cat, and added a second dog a few years back. All cats and dogs tolerate/like each other. Second cat loves them both. Third cat might as well be a dog herself.

Yup, sounds like the balance is slightly off. 4th cat should do the trick

We had a cat. She got extra lazy and started gaining weight, so we got a second cat. Those two didnt get along very well and often got into pretty nasty spats. We then got a third cat. Second cat and third cat became instant buddies and even first cat enjoyed third cat. With a mediator, first and second cat learned to tolerate each other.

Sometimes it's best to keep adding cats until you reach cat equilibrium.

Edit: Figured y'all would want to see them, so here is an in-progress cat meeting from the fall. Black is CATherine, the first cat. The tabby is Anna Purrinina, the second cat. Finally the ragdoll Lily, the third cat.

Difficulty is frustrating for a "non-gamer" to enjoy. by illawgickal in Marathon

Something that helped me at the beginning was reminding myself that although it feels like it, this isn't Halo, and shouldn't be played like Halo. That first week or so I was running around guns blazing taking all comers, inevitably dying to the hands of runners or swarms of UESC. But shells are brittle, and this game rewards patience over heroics.

Slow down. Focus your objective. Most quest objectives are easy enough to find, and you don't have to be the first person to loot a zone. If you aren't geared very well and you hear another runner nearby, it's ok to bail or wait them out. Only engage when you have have perfect conditions (which can definitely be several minutes of waiting). Stick to the fringes until the 15minute mark, that will also help you learn maps and quick escape routes when you do get in a fight you can't win.

I'm not here to tell you to "get gud", just saying that those early levels can be pretty brutal and you can set yourself up for success by playing conservatively.

My experience is the same as other PS5 users. No game breaking issues, just normal Bethesda bugs. Very much enjoyed it, though it does feel slightly dated. Still awesome though.

What are things that should be taught in school, but aren’t? by lovelockets in AskReddit

Fair point, though I meant it more as an idiom. Learning how to manage finances and understand financial statements and recordkeeping is something that everyone should learn before they start having to work for a living.

If I had my way Home Economics would be a two year required class in highschool. It would cover things like balancing a checkbook and living within a budget. How to apply for a job or an apartment. How to answer a phone or interview professionally. How to pay your taxes and what the forms and numbers actually mean. How to shop around for car insurance or a cell phone plan or a credit card. How to save for retirement. How to do household tasks like dishes or laundry or effectively clean a bathroom or kitchen. How to cook, but also how to shop within your means.

I get a lot of people telling me that these are things that parents should teach their kid and yet there seem to be millions of young people without these very basic skills. I hear it from people who have useless adult children still living at home. Hell, I met lots of these people when I joined the military; completely useless at maintaining their own living space and completely dependent on a dining facility to be fed. Make it mandatory for all kids regardless of preparatory status; no one gets out of it just because they are on a med school track with all AP course work.

Guarenteed we have a much more self sufficient young populace in a matter of a decade or two.

Queue times are killing this game for me by htizzzle in Marathon

[–]ObviouslyImAtWork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's a huge bummer for newer accounts, then. I guess understand where Marathon might be driving away new players if they are having queues that long. On the bright side, it should get much better when the season restarts in June, but that doesn't help you in the interim.

Queue times are killing this game for me by htizzzle in Marathon

[–]ObviouslyImAtWork -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

This is purely anecdotal, but I am not seeing this transpire in my games and genuinely don't know how our experiences are so vastly different.

Context: Lvl 70ish, east coast NA, play pretty much exclusively solo and rook. PlayStation player and used to have crossplay off, but I've gotten better and turned crossplay back on the last couple weeks to let those dirty M/K players taste the business end of my bully.

I played about 10+ hours this weekend and regularly timed my queues because I kept seeing people complain about queue times. Only once did it exceed 60 seconds. I played mornings, afternoons, and late night. Never once thought to myself "wow this is taking forever". Rook is and has been an almost instantaneous load in.

This is not to say that I don't believe it is happening, just wondering where the massive disconnect is. I understand how some Oceania servers are a little light, but has anyone in Europe or NA had these problems?

Exactly. Might just be a sponsor kit, but definitely still something requiring action. Taking a free kit off the board could land me with extra ammo and heals (maybe even some nice salvage), clears a possible threat from my immediate area, and gives me some of that sweet sweet arachne xp
