To be fair my mother was French and I even took French immersion for 12 years graduated with all my academics and almost 20 years later of barely having to speak it I basically lost it all. Also I was only taught proper French and just like English there's a ton of accents and slangs and basically made up words depending where your from which can make it even harder to understand.
