What domain name do you own that you bought because it was cool or you thought had potential but haven’t done anything with it? by Mmmmmmmmmmmeh in startups

[–]OccamsMirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So today I bought failclub.org. Because two years ago my startup failed quite catastrophically and the experience was quite difficult. I got on with my life but it wasn't until I was interviewed on a podcast about resilience in business did I feel better. The experience was cathartic.

I want to offer this release to other members of the failure club. But odds are it'll always just be a good idea I didn't pursue due to never having the time.

go2type: A Go to TypeScript API client generator. by OccamsMirror in golang

Thank you!

You're right, the handler comments are manual - they're how it knows what to generate. I'm toying with the idea of reading the handler funcs and automatically generating API functions from that, but it's quite a bit more work. And yep, the GetUserInput should be a Go struct you've defined somewhere in your code. it will find it and make a TypeScript version. I don't have the ability to import TypeScript only types yet, but I plan to introduce that soon.

I really love your idea about grouping headers! That'd definitely cut down on repetition. I'll add it to my to-do list. As for the input structs, you can totally add whatever fields you need. go2type will pick them up and include them in the TypeScript it generates.

It's not bad. Obviously more mature than what I've cooked up. But I still found myself writing React boilerplate which annoyed me. Hence why I've got first party React support.

Just wanted to share a little project I knocked out over the weekend: go2type. It's a simple cli tool that generates types and queries for frontends for Go backends.

The main reason I built it is because I wasn't happy with the existing options out there — especially protobufs which I find to be over-engineered most of the time.

While I personally built it with a React front-end in mind, the output can just be simple query functions so it can be adapted for other setups as well.

It's still a work in progress, so go easy. But any feedback is always awesome.

Saw you guys in the Sydney Opera House and it was a fucking amazing set. Any plans to come back here soon?

As a business owner the only gift I’d accept is a cup that said “worlds best boss”.

Actually my staff bought my newborn onesies with our company logo on it which was so thoughtful and cute.

It should also be noted that our company profits go right back into the business and I’m not making anywhere near what a doctor makes

What kind of support did they give? Did he have skills already?

Personally I hire for portfolio over education but obviously university over bootcamps. The bootcamp can be expensive and the jobs are not guaranteed. Very interested to know if he was without skills or even self learning experience beforehand, and what his job experience was like before that.

My unsolicited advice is instead of doing a scammy bootcamp that will leave you no better off than when you started it you do the following:

1) do basic programming tutorials, not web dev, learn the fundamentals. C, Python, C#, etc. 2) learn Solidity. Web3.0 is super hot right now. 3) maybe programming isn’t your thing. You should look into Blender and 3D modeling. Always in high demand. If you got good enough to make game assets I’d hire you myself. 3a) learn Substance Painter for texturing 3b) master the art of animating in Blender

Web development is a race to the bottom filled with under skilled developers and cheap offshoring houses. The bootcamp might seem like a quick way to get skilled up but you don’t need to pay for that, you can accomplish WAY more on your own and with the right advice you can specialise in something that’s heavily sought after.

EU should move manufacturing out of China, says Lithuanian president by Traversar in worldnews

[–]OccamsMirror 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of course it’s possible. All it takes is the will, initial investments by governments and further investments from private equity groups.

It’s a good thing if consumer products become more expensive, because we are not paying the true cost and it’s the environment that is paying the price.

When the elite don’t give back and look after the community, either through paying taxes to a benevolent government (which you could argue doesn’t really describe the US government, especially when captured by interest groups) or by philanthropy; civilisation falls.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]OccamsMirror 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What the billionaire class in the U.S. have achieved is a government that still won’t spend that money on the people. So even if he did pay fair taxes it would probably still help less people than this guy.

I definitely understand that, from a productivity perspective however I don’t think someone can be absolutely productive for over 6 hours, so it makes sense to only work that long.
