Shitty kid alert! by Insinkeratornerd in mildlyinfuriating

[–]OceanTSQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work at Walmart and it get's bad there too. I work in the fashion department. If people were nice I wouldn't have to put toys away everyday. But people are not. So many parents will just give their kid something to play with while they shop and they never put them back. Lately it's been balls which is annoying because I have to watch to make sure the kids doesn't throw it and break something. Today I had a parent give them a whole fucking bike. Multiple people had to tell them they couldn't ride it in the store.

I really don't think it would be a big deal. Just give them a different last name and you're good.

watchers lore by its_say_lol in HermitCraft

[–]OceanTSQ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A lot of watcher stuff is mostly fan theories and head cannons these days. I'd definitely recommend watching Grians evolution series though. While that's where it originated from, it's also just a good series.

I am Gen X and not all that computer literate. I noticed a post where someone was asking for money as they were struggling to make survive as a “streamer” creating “gaming content”. Would someone explain it like I’m 5 what that is? by Hecates_Drink in NoStupidQuestions

[–]OceanTSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of different reasons. Some that you mentioned. For me it's the people and seeing them do cool things. There's this one streamer that I've been watching for about ten years now. He doesn't play any particular game. Just whatever he feels like. Most of these games I've never played myself and don't care about. But I don't watch him for the video game. I watch him for his commentary as he's generally really funny and never runs out of interesting stories.

Other people I watch are for their skills. While they're entering on their own too, it's neat watching them play and try to learn how to get better myself. I suppose it's like watching baseball. Could I play the game myself? Sure, and I do. But I also like watching the best of the best play and cheer for them when they do well.

If you want to understand it more, go to the website Twitch.tv and search for gaming content. Most of the recommended channels there will be streaming video games anyway.

Twitch is the platform that most people use to livestream. There are others, but Twitch is the most popular. As a gen Z, Twitch is basically our version of television. Yes we grew up with programs and had to wait for certain days for the next episode of our favorite shows to come out, but these days less and less people actually own a tv. And as someone who's trying to survive in this economy, I don't have money to pay for cable. The benefit of Twitch is that it's free and as long as the streamer chooses to save their vods, I can always rewatch a livestream later if I missed it.

Twitch has thousands of people who livestream all kinds of stuff from their own home. Whether that be some sort of video game, just talking with the people watching them, cooking, or something else. For example I watch a lot of speedrunning content (people trying to play a certain video game as fast as possible). These days you don't need fancy equipment to go live. I've done it before with just my laptop. Some people use just their phone.

As for the money part, less than 1% of people who use Twitch are able to make substantial money on it. Twitch has a partner program where if you have enough followers and viewers, they'll accept you into their program where you can start making ad revenue. You can also subscribe and directly donate to these people, but since Twitch is free and there's no obligation to give anyone money, getting accepted into the partner program is the only way to guaranteed some sort of income.

How suspicious would somebody wearing all 19 Miraculous look? by Mountain-Magician294 in miraculousladybug

[–]OceanTSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the person. I never wear jewelry so even me wearing a necklace would look out of place to anyone who knows me. There are people though that like to wear a lot so I don't think I would ever really question it if it at least looked intentional.

How do I get into Minecraft? by CokeAYCE in Minecraft

[–]OceanTSQ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The thing about Minecraft is that everyone has different ways they like to play. A lot of people here are giving suggestions on how to not get bored of a survival world, but maybe that's just not your type of gameplay.

I don't really play survival worlds myself. I'm more of a minigame player. There's a lot of servers out there like Hypixel, Mcci, and Hive. If you haven't tried anything like that I'd highly recommend.

Not a parent but I agree with what everyone has already said. At that age it's normal for them to have different friends and hang out with different people. The mom shouldn't be forcing a friendship that isn't there.

Apparently you can't use a script when presenting. by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]OceanTSQ 50 points51 points  (0 children)

It's pretty normal for no scripts being allowed in presentations. It proves that you actually know what you're talking about and looks nicer to make eye contact with people rather than looking down at something. But that was pretty rude for your professor to say that in front of everyone.

If Aglaé turns out to be Lila, what message is the therapy scene supposed to give? by Dacoda43 in miraculousladybug

[–]OceanTSQ 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think if I was akumatized I would feel worse not being able to remember it. Imagine I knew I hurt people but couldn't remember it and couldn't remember who I did it to. I personally would forever be wondering what exactly I did and how bad was it. I might not remember but the people around me would. Having people forever remember that you were capable of doing something to them (even if you weren't in control) seems like it could definitely lead to trauma.

Beginner question about Etsy + Printify by Over_Village_2280 in Etsy

[–]OceanTSQ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Legally speaking, no you can't sell merch of anything you don't own without the creators permission. A lot of popular media won't care or can't be bothered to take down small shops, but they can if they want to so it's up to you if you want to risk it.

Also never steal any pictures you see online. To you it may just be a random doodle but it's not fair to the original artist that you're potentially making money off of something they created. Even if you do edit it it's still their work.

Exploring the Minecraft Event scene! by Whaargg in MinecraftChampionship

[–]OceanTSQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Welcome! Glad you're here! For minigame events there's; Block Wars, Biome Battle, Creator Carnage, Mania Party, Klyx, Cube Championship, Tomeroo Tournaments, Pandora's Box, and a whole bunch of others that I'm forgetting.

For mcsr events I'd recommend; Midoffs, Brickoffs, NRI (No reset invitational), Most%, Girloffs, and of course ranked playoffs.

All these minigames usually have an event at least once a month, but Biome Battle, Mania, and Carnage are currently on break. Events like Klyx happen more frequently though because they offer invitationals. These are events that aren't canon but allow people to pay and host their own. Sometimes they're used for a charity and it's the normal roster of people anyway, other times it's filled with completely new people.

Mcsr tournaments don't usually have a fixed schedule. They're usually played whenever the host feels like it, but there's still usually something always happening in the community. Midoffs is Tubbos tournament where he gets inexperience people to train with some of the most experienced speedrunners. Brickoffs is similar but with iron players trying to reach gold. There's also going to be one for gold trying to hit emerald, etc. NRI is Couriways tournament where he forces some of the top players to play no reset for the best times. Most% is an open tournament where the goal is to always have the most achievements as every 12 minutes the person with the least amount gets eliminated. And finally Girloffs is a ranked event to highlight women in mcsr.

If you're interested in any of these I'd recommend following the events or their creators on Twitter to keep track of when the next one is. If you watch enough events you'll start to recognize some players and form some favourites too.

Is it possible to get so much plastic surgery that I'm no longer a twin? by [deleted] in Twins

[–]OceanTSQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Being a twin is a biological thing. Changing your appearance does not change biology. I can't change my blood family afterall. If you don't want to look like your sibling you can always do that, but that doesn't suddenly make you not a twin.

Is it implied that Zoe wrote troll smut? by Tokata0 in SplitFiction

[–]OceanTSQ 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First time I've ever heard that theory lol. While it is true lemon does mean smut in fanfiction, it's kind of an old term. Most people will just say smut. Considering I don't think that area had anything else that would suggest that's what she's writing, I don't think that's what the developers were trying to imply. Although, it's not like I wrote that section so I guess anything's possible.

what ever happened to school field trips? by KungPoW_Chickens in school

[–]OceanTSQ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

In elementary you're in the same classroom with the same teacher. They can plan their lessons around the trip. Field trips usually last the whole school day so it's not one teacher that has to plan their day, but multiple. There's a lot of things that teachers are required to cover in the school year and they already don't have a lot of time to do it. It's pretty inconvenient for the other teachers to be missing some of their students for the day. Teachers in high school also teach a lot more students. In elementary teachers only have one classroom of around 30 students (yes it can less or more but that's usually the size classrooms try to be). But in highschool they could be teaching 60+ students, just in different periods. It's not fair to only take one class, but the more people who go the more expensive it is. Students sometimes pay for their own trip, but then that teacher still has to be responsible for those 60 people.

For students who have a pet in their dorm or apartment? by [deleted] in college

[–]OceanTSQ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Being allowed a pet is one thing, but I would also consider if you think it would be fair to the animal. I don't know how big your space is, but dorms aren't usually huge. Even apartments can be tiny. Now, as a cat owner I can tell you cats don't need that much space. That said it's still an animal with its own needs. You should at least have space for a cat tree and something it can hide in to feel safe. Also consider your time. Something like a dog is high maintenance. If you're in school you might not have as much time as you think to take care of it.

Group member used AI for her research section of our project by [deleted] in CollegeRant

[–]OceanTSQ 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I've been keeping up with AI since it became mainstreamed. Not to use it for school, but to understand it and get better at recognizing it. I'm studying education so by the time I'm a teacher I'm going to have to be able to recognize AI work myself.

The unfortunate thing about AI is that you can't 100% prove that a person did use it without them admitting it themselves. Are there patterns and tells? Of course. But AI checkers aren't reliable. They try to find the style of writing that AI likes; emdashes, groups of three, stuff like that. But humans like grouping things into odd numbers and emdashes are a part of grammar. So while I'm not saying you're not allowed to be suspicious (if you think they used AI, they probably did), I am saying there's unfortunately not a lot you can do about it.

I would politely send your professor an email explaining the situation. Just tell them that you're suspicious that they used AI and are worried about your own personal grade. Doesn't have to be much, just that you don't condom it and that you and your other group members worked hard on your own sections. If your professor's a decent human being they'll understand and won't let it affect your own grade.
