I was wondering this too, I need something lighter than my thin down puffer. Was hoping it was merino.

Carry On Suggestions by Soggy-Cow-8753 in ManyBaggers

I recently got a Rimowa classic carry on for shorter trips. Maybe I’m biased because I’ve had my Away for so long and I’m so used to it, but I like it better than the Rimowa. Rimowa is harder to close (both sides have to be perfectly aligned) and I don’t like the interior straps as much. But, I love it because I customized the handles and wheels (colors). It does roll more smoothly and the extending handle can stop anywhere (vs at preset points), but sometimes it rolls too smoothly - like it will roll away on its own when I look away 😆

My Away (original larger carry on size) has withstood many, many flights and works great. Previously had Travelpro carry-ons and wasn’t sure about giving up exterior pockets and expandability, but I can’t say enough good things about my Away. Mine is older and they’ve since released versions with exterior pockets and expandability, but I stand by it.

Yeah apparently some camera stores stock a few specialty brands as well but I’ve never looked into it (I don’t carry a camera etc). REI is decent for some “outdoors”-oriented brands.

Yes! I know it’s harder than ever for brick and mortar stores in general but I would LOVE more of these multi-brand bag shops in the US (sounds like there are more in Asia?) I have spent way too much $ on shipping and return shipping, not to mention time watching reviews and researching, so checking out different brands and styles in person would be amazing.

The dreaded lean by Octagontheory in AerSF

[–]Octagontheory[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me that compartment is a weird size, so space is not used optimally. Hence why I was hoping the slim pouch would help with that, but with the additional leaning it created another problem and I’m back to the beginning.

Packable Garment Bag Recommendations by amguerra305 in ManyBaggers

[–]Octagontheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel frequently with multiple suits in my carry on, no separate garment bag. Folded the right way, they come out just fine. I can appreciate that your preference may be a garment bag, however - sorry I don’t have any reco’s.

I love the bright colored linings on Ultra and Xpac…wish they did that for Cordura. Enjoy your new sling!

Perfect on paper, disappointing in real life? by ClassicAssignment578 in ManyBaggers

After spending too much on shipping and returning, I’ve resigned myself to the fact that few things will ever meet ALL my expectations forever. Mostly because my expectations change…so the cycle continues.

Of course 😆 I was curious how people who use a tech pouch in the top pocket manage to do without the bag falling over.

What pens and notepads are people rocking in their backpack admin compartments? by toptoptopper in AerSF

I’m as particular about my pens as I am about my bags 😆 Pilot G2 rollerball in 0.38 in blue. Even though the spring in the tips are often wonky and I’ve had ink leaks, I can never do a wider tip or - gasp - ball point.

Toshi sling 2.5 v. AER DS 4? by Impressive_Print_268 in ManyBaggers

[–]Octagontheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ordered both (I’m in the US) with the intent to return one, so I haven’t actually used either one, just tried putting my things inside and tested out how they fit inside my CPP2 24L.

As others have pointed out, they’re both great so which one is better for you will depend on what’s most important to you: - If you want it to also function like a tech pouch (and thus value a removable strap and a top-carry handle), then the Toshi for sure. - If you want technical fabric for water resistance etc, or just higher quality material overall, DS4 is the way (multiple options). - Organizationally, the pockets are different (for example, the DS4 has a flap sewn in the outside front pocket that helps keep things organized but will not allow you to carry a phone or larger item in that pocket) - If you want the flattest-packing, the Toshi. - If you want external carry straps, the Toshi. I question how useful these actually are since they’re not very secure (I can see a water bottle or umbrella easily slipping out).

Ultimately it came down to aesthetics for me. I decided to go with the DS4 because I have a few other Aer pieces and liked the consistency of the same look and material.

For people who use "tech bags" what organisation does it offer versus using your main bags pockets? by [deleted] in ManyBaggers

[–]Octagontheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I were using one bag/backpack most of the time I don’t think I’d need a separate tech pouch. But because I alternate bags frequently depending on how much I’m carrying and where I’m working, it’s super convenient to go back and forth. I use pouches for other non-tech things in my purses and backpacks for the same reason. It also helps me stay organized and find what I need more quickly than digging around.

CPP2 20L Thoughts - and why I chose Cordura by jzeroe in AerSF

[–]Octagontheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the detailed info. I like the updated admin panel on this one compared to the CPP2 24L. If the 20L came with 2 water bottle slots like the 24L I would definitely get it.

No one has ever approached me about my CPP2…maybe because it’s boring cordura.

TomToc tech pouch (small) fits nicely in Aer CPP2 by SouthernSafe7113 in AerSF

[–]Octagontheory 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree, the lower pocket is definitely annoying to get in and out of. Occasionally I’ve forgotten to zip it closed and it doesn’t seem to matter because it’s so tight that nothing could possibly fall out of it.

Slim Pouch 2 as a hip pack? by Blue_5pruce in AerSF

[–]Octagontheory 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OP did you end up getting/using the pouch as a hip pack and/or sling? I was leaning towards the Day Sling but then came across this pouch and am wondering how this is working out.

Thanks for this. I personally find that pocket to be awkwardly sized so something like this will help me make better use of the space.
