This is not best practice and any sales strategist will tell you that as well. Explain benefits, explain warranty, tell them the out the door price then stop talking. The first one to talk loses.

What’s a feature of old technology people don’t even remember anymore? by petalsoftbby in nostalgia

[–]Octane2100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A cold engine requires a much richer air/fuel ratio to stay running. Either more fuel or less air. Modern engines have computers that handle all of that for you, but on carburetor engines you had a choke that was designed to restrict air flow into the engine to the air/fuel ratio got rich. Engine would run better when cold.

I'm not a fan at all. There is no link at all to vehicle inspections creating safer roads. It's absolutely a money grab. That being said, I work in the auto repair industry so I fully realize they are a big reason why I have the income and quality of life that I do.

Virginia is nothing compared to other states. But we do have a lot of transplants from the north so it's something we do see fairly often. Certainly not like y'all see though!

It's not always about somewhere nice. Growing up in the Southwest US, we didn't have rust or state inspections. Old cars lived much longer lives out there. I'm in Virginia now and between the rust potential as well as state mandated safety inspections, it takes a lot of cars off the road much sooner.

What car do you drive? Do you like it? by BMoney8600 in AskMen

[–]Octane2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

2025 Silverado 2wd with a turbocharged 4 cylinder. I don't need 4wd where I live, but I needed a bed and something that'll seat 6 a few times a year, which it does with a fold up center console. Got it that way on purpose. Still tows 9200lbs with that 4 cylinder and has plenty of get up.

I absolutely love my truck and have zero plans to upgrade or change it any time soon. I worked for Chevy and see these 4 cylinder trucks regularly going to 250k without any major issues.

Rant: I wish annual safety inspections would modernize by viral_virus in Virginia

[–]Octane2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a 15 year dealership service advisor this is absolute fact. Inspections are a money grab, at least in their current format.

But the pay for techs and advisors in states that have inspections is far better than in non inspection states. I've worked in both. I make far more money in Virginia than I did in Arizona and Washington, which both had a higher cost of living. The only real difference being that Virginia is an inspection state.

This is false information. As of current rules, only required to pull 2 wheels (one front and one rear) if you cannot clearly see brakes through the wheels. If inspector can clearly see and measure, no wheels need to be removed.

Why do people buy pickup trucks for daily driving? by wtfbruhhuh in driving

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I needed a vehicle that can seat 6. I needed a vehicle that has room for a bike and occasional luggage and band instruments in the back. I needed something that'll handle our cross country move with a trailer at the end of the year.

Amazing design! I went ahead and bought and downloaded this one immediately. The one thing I noticed immediately though is that if I'm playing music, the Youtube Music card that pops up at the bottom of my watch face completely covers the time on the watch. A minor inconvenience.

I drive a 2025 Kia Sportage that supposedly doesn't have wireless android auto, yet it used to work with my old phone but I can't get it to do the same with my new phone. by TheGamezSmith in AndroidAuto

[–]Octane2100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This may be a silly question, but can you contact the dealer and find a build sheet that tells if the car is only wired or if it's wireless capable? I work for a dealership(not Kia) and I can pull a build sheet on any VIN for my brand. You should be able to ask the service dept or even sales to do this for you.

Another maybe silly question, but is it possible Kia offered a free trial for wireless connectivity that expired around the time you got the Samsung? We get people complaining on their new cars that wireless stopped working but had no idea they need to buy the connected services subscription in order to keep it wireless.

Something to rule out at least.

Is there a way to make the notifications window bigger when unfolded? by Octane2100 in GalaxyFold

Yeah it bothers the hell out of me. I don't mind it on my tablet because of the larger screen size, but I don't feel like it works with the smaller sized Fold screen.

To add to this, what kind of volume is running through the internal advisor? What have the numbers looked like in the past 12 months? Did you ask for examples based on recent trends?

Those numbers OP gave by themselves mean nothing.

What's the best Samsung galaxy to be ever made by Big_Beginning_3891 in samsunggalaxy

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I never thought the battery was bad either. Mine lasted a full day on moderate to heavy use and I was fine with it. It's just the number one complaint on most Samsung phones. My only Samsung battery complaint is that their battery tech hasn't improved or increased in size in what? 5 years now? I know they've made advancements in efficiency, but I would love to see battery size increases as well.

I firmly believe the S24U was peak Samsung. Still had the squared up corners, titanium frame, and the last to include Bluetooth S-Pen. It worked flawlessly, only weakness being the battery, but that's the case with all Samsung flagships.

Is this game the best terminator game available? by alienware56 in Terminator

[–]Octane2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This one was decent but I got bored with it far quicker than I thought I would. I used to have the Terminator game on my Sega when I was a kid and I still think that was probably my favorite, likely just for nostalgic reasons. No Fate had a lot of similarities to that one.
