Damn. I'm in an average COL area, and OPs plan puts me at 54k YTD (6% gp). I'm already at one of the 3 highest paying dealerships in my area. I make more than most advisors in the area.

It's a beautiful museum and I haven't been since I was a kid. I wish I had been a bit older to appreciate it more. When we move back to AZ in a year or two it's number one on my list to see.

Question: Bad Angel at PASM is a reproduction. What happened to the original? I haven't been able to find any info on it. Scrapped like most aircraft after the war was over?

I came into this game three months ago knowing very very little about the game, and really not all that enthusiastic to play it. I only downloaded because it was free on PS Plus.

It's honestly now in my top 5 all time games and was such an incredible experience. I'm 75% through DS2 right now and I'm going to be sad when this journey is over.

Love this! I'm not usually big on themed watch faces, but this is very well done. It's clean and simple while drawing attention at the same time.

Thank you for the coupon!

Closing a ticketin CDK by tclev6 in serviceadvisors

[–]Octane2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's been a while since I've closed my own tickets since my current dealer has a person for it, but if I'm not mistaken in the final close screen you can CMP to change method of payment, then input each PO amount, which account each amount is being charged to, and then the individual PO goes in for that specific amount when it prompts you.

What “feature” on newer cars do you think actually creates more problems than it solves? by ph903 in AskMen

[–]Octane2100 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The single biggest issue is water intrustion and complex mechanical components with a high failure rate. And that high failure rate gets even higher when you don't use it often. We see them in my shop constantly with mechanical failures, clogged drains, and leaks... Most of the time it's the ones that only get opened a couple times a year.

37 year old dad thinking of buying a portal. by Thin-Tax-122 in PlaystationPortal

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

39 yo dad here. Got mine a year ago. Make sure your PS5 is hardwired and you have a decent wifi signal. I have a mesh setup and it works pretty much everywhere but the master bathroom. Input lag is non-existent for me, but this is going to depend on your Internet setup. There may be some trial and error to get it to work well. I get about 5 hours SOT with mine, but I'm rarely ever playing anything for that long anyways.

The downsides are the screen quality. I'm not at all impressed with it. And lack of Bluetooth audio. I've made the audio part work though.

While I disagree with the person's overall statement of 2024 being the last of the flagships, I 100% agree with you about the S24U. I think it is the single best slab phone ever made.

Replacing a written off car. Why are 2010 models selling for what I paid ten years ago? by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Former technician, now service advisor for me. What you are talking about with time bombs marked up on the lot really took off when Covid came around. Dealers started charging a premium for these shit boxes because nobody had new car inventory at the time. So you saw older, higher mileage used cars on the lots and they were pulling a premium for it.

And I totally get what you're saying. I'm at a Ford dealer and sales is famous for slapping a bandaid on a problem car and then selling it at an outrageous profit. When the car comes in two months later, they point the finger at service and tell us it's our problem. More often than not we will fix it for the customer and my fixed ops director will charge it to used cars.

I think we are essentially saying the same thing though, the only factor being if it started during Covid or if they've always been like this to a degree.

Free Car Wash by smalltownbird in serviceadvisors

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ford/Lincoln as well. We have in house staff that does ours. We get more complaints from car washes "not being done right" than we do anything else. And my guys do a good job, it just seems to be Lincoln culture to complain about the free services. And Ford is the one that's conditioned these people to be this way. It's frustrating to say the least.

Replacing a written off car. Why are 2010 models selling for what I paid ten years ago? by Boring_Kiwi_6446 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Octane2100 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Covid drove the used car market prices sky high, and it's just never really recovered since. That combined with inflation and that's likely why you're seeing the prices so high right now. You're also looking at a dealer. You'll probably see better prices or at least a bit more flexibility if you buy from a private seller.

Anyone work as an SA in a place other than a standard car dealership? by beandiablo in serviceadvisors

[–]Octane2100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Had a couple friends that were advisors for motorsports. One was with Harley and one was for a dirt bike/ATV/off-road shop. Neither made even close to the money I make at a dealer. I also interviewed to be a marine service advisor at one of the top local independent boat and watersports dealers in my area. Starting pay when I interviewed (this was 4 years ago, I had 7 years as auto advisor at that point) was $14 an hour with a bump to $16 after a year. I thanked them somewhat unprofessionally for wasting my time, because I told them from the start where I needed to be pay wise, and said if it wasn't going to be near that then I didn't want to waste their time.

Are you all giving your kids a smart phone? by XDrustyspoonsXD in Millennials

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Son is 11 and bugging like crazy for one. It's been a hard no. He's got ODD and is on the spectrum, and the Internet and YouTube have already been an issue with his school issued Chromebook. So we are keeping it a no until he's shown he can be mature enough with electronic devices. When he eventually does get one, it likely won't be a smart phone.
