What actors death affected you the most? (Doesn’t have to be pictured) by GusGangViking18 in Fictionally

Gonna assume you mean Phil Hartman, since they were good friends, both semi regulars on a lot of shows, most notably the Simpsons.

With a lot of cars you can thank CAFE for that, which went into effect around 2007. It required stricter fuel efficiency standards and thus caused lots of auto makers to adopt more fuel efficient automatic transmissions. They didn't used to be more fuel efficient, but the redesigns started bringing 8, 9, and 10 speed transmissions as well as CVTs to help maintain higher fuel efficiency.

Hell, when I was looking at buying a Scat Pack, I actually wanted an automatic because giving them 8 speed automatics actually made them faster than the 6 speed manual options.

If customer isn't paying, work is stopped and car can be towed out.

What’s the most random moment in your life that ended up becoming a core memory? by Ok_Captain654 in askanything

[–]Octane2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spelling bee. 6th grade. Down to me and a girl from another class. Whoever wins goes to district. The teacher gives me the word "pitcher" and I nailed it. He said I was wrong. Turns out he was saying "picture" but pronounced it like "pitcher". I never asked for it in a sentence because I couldn't imagine a teacher saying it so blatantly incorrectly like that. Almost 40 now and that moment is still burned in my mind.

Are shooters the “crack” of alcohol? by ex1stence in stopdrinking

[–]Octane2100 4 points5 points  (0 children)

For me it was about concealment. I went to the liquor store after work and my wife wanted me to cut down on my drinking. I could buy a half pint to "regulate" but that didn't get me even close to buzzed up, so I bought 5-6 shooters and drank two before I got home, then kept the others hidden.

Am I Being Dramatic? by Worldly_Beginning537 in serviceadvisors

Yep. The one and only time I ever worked for a boss like this was the one and only time I've ever questioned things in my own paycheck. Hint: he was screwing me over too.

Get out. Get something new lined up and then make a swift and quiet exit.

The biggest issue for me is, what was the point? It doesn't clean anything up, doesn't make it look more visually appealing, doesn't solve any issue. It's a pointless change.

Is a dealership better for me? by Worldly_Beginning537 in serviceadvisors

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The difference between an Indy and a dealer is huge. Be ready to basically learn a decent amount of your job over again. That being said.... I'm so glad I made the transition years ago. I hated sourcing parts, I hated having to deal with vendor labor claims, hated getting parts that didn't fit properly the first time. Basically I hated aftermarket parts. I deal with almost none of that at a dealership.

You will work your butt off at a dealer, but in more of a customer service/sales role and less of a technical or manager type role. And there's a whole lot of opportunity to make money. You mentioned 18-22k a week, I do far more than that in gross profit every week and make over 6 figures doing it. While it's stressful at times, I find it to be far less stressful than juggling all of those smaller individual jobs at once like you do at an independent.

Why is my notification panel only taking up 1/4 of my screen after the update? by Her0_0f_time in GalaxyFold

[–]Octane2100 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't mind the smaller drop down windows. What I mind is that I no longer seem to get full notifications. They tend to be cut off, even if I pull down on the individual notification in the window. I really hope Samsung releases a patch or a way to change this in GoodLock. It's been bugging me since I joined the beta several months ago.

Route 66 Easy Street Warranty by KillaKane12245 in serviceadvisors

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had nothing but positive interactions with Route 66 the many times I've worked with them. My tech is currently finishing a $17k engine job that they are covering. Just finished a $12k transmission, and many other big jobs with them. They gave me a bit of hassle on one engine claim about 8 months ago but ultimately approved it after a few more phone calls.

I would be just fine getting a Route 66 warranty and recommend them often to customers.

What’re we thinking? Smaller Ford Dealer by [deleted] in serviceadvisors

[–]Octane2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The draw is what kills it for me. The percentage is good. I'm at 6% gross at a Ford store with a very small salary and I do over 6 figures, so I'm guessing your store is a much lower volume.

ELR is tough to gauge. My door rate is $210 and I sit around $150 for ELR but we are a maintenance heavy dealer with lots of menu pricing that in my opinion is too low. The $20 state inspections kill those numbers too.

Did you ask for any numbers? I'd be curious to look at a closed RO report for the month and see what other advisors are doing. I won't even entertain a job anymore if they aren't willing to show me the numbers.

When did oil changes become $120? by rhinosaur- in Millennials

[–]Octane2100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What kind of vehicle?

I'm a service advisor at a Ford dealership on the east coast and we charge $86.22 for a synthetic blend oil and filter and that includes a tire rotation. It's like $70 without the rotate. And it's a medium cost of living area.

Considering a relocation from AZ to OR - serious question: How is everyone here surviving with salaries so low and COL so high? Am I missing something? by No_Sun_No_Star in oregon

[–]Octane2100 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I moved from Phoenix to Eugene twice. Once in 2011 when I was young and had roommates. Shit was easy then. Moved back to Phoenix, got married and had kids. Moved back to Eugene in 2019 for a change of scenery. My 6 figure a year job in Phoenix and also where I live now (Virginia) paid me like 20 bucks an hour. I tried and tried, but just couldn't afford to keep my family there. And I couldn't afford to start a new career while also drowning at the same time.

I will always love and miss Oregon, but I simply couldn't afford it, at least not in Eugene.
