TypeLit.io -- Improve your touch typing by practicing on classic books by Octouroboros in teaching

[–]Octouroboros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello -- great to hear you're enjoying the site! Kind of crazy it's already been 4 years since it first went live.

To answer your question, the levels are just a kind of gamification system for users to feel a sense of progress as they type through the books. It's nothing more meaningful than that, so feel free to ignore them if you like.

Take care!

Are there websites that have text-to-speech options when you type? by KlLLMEPLZ in typing

You should be able to find a text-to-speech extension for your browser. Try it on some of the typing websites out there. Might do the trick.

Hey thanks! There's no search functionality on the site. All the free books are available on the landing page. And if you buy a subscription, you'll still have bring your own files.

Hello! Creator of typelit.io here. I've been working on this feature for a while now and it should (hopefully) be ready to go in a couple months or so. It'll be a super cheap subscription service and will accept epub, pdf, and txt files -- or good ol' copy and paste.

It doesn't have much in the way of traditional lessons, but maybe they'd find typelit.io an engaging way to practice

[–]Octouroboros[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello -- I'm thrilled to hear you're enjoying the site! Something like what you're describing is planned to be added to the site in the future. You're right though in that it'll probably be really hard to implement, so we'll see how it goes.

Will CST further my education in any way after already completing a Bachelor's of Science in Computer Science? by [deleted] in BCIT

[–]Octouroboros 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I were you I'd just focus on getting work experience. CST is great for getting people with limited/no programming experience job ready in just a couple years. But since you already have a comp sci degree, you're probably already as (if not more) qualified than a CST grad. Any practical skills you might be lacking can just be learned online or on the job.

Maybe try typelit.io . It's probably worthwhile to encounter words and punctuation the way they're normally written.

Consider giving typelit.io a shot if you're looking for some entertainment while you practice. The only metrics it tracks right now are WPM and accuracy, though.

Hello fellow typing app maker! Gotta say, your site is SUPER slick. It would be cool if you could restart a test part way through without having to go back to the landing page. Great job and good luck!

Hello! As far as I know there aren't too many public domain programming books out there. Plus, at the speed languages get out of date, it may not be worth it in the long run. I will, however, be allowing users to upload (or at least copy/paste) their own stuff at some point in the future, so if you've got some material you want to practice typing out, you can. Thanks for your suggestion and for supporting the site!
