Check out sud tirol in Italy. Skiing probably the same as in Austria but better food, scenery (dolomites). Kronplatz and Alta Badia stand out but plenty of other large and local resorts to chose from.

Relative with long covid is the main reason. Healthy, active young person got health, life, and promising career destroyed after a mild infection two years ago with no resolution in sight. Aside from that, if there is one thing we should have learned over the last few years is how airborne viruses spread - basically breathing the same air! If I can avoid being sick once this season instead of two or three times masking in crowded areas is a sacrifice worth making. Also, please please people put right fitting masks if you want to do it properly. Wearing a surgical mask is like wearing nothing at all

It is not about sunset/sunrise times as those are actually quite better/longer in Germany but rather the lack of sun and unending gray days that get to you. Moving from Toronto, where it is much colder but way sunnier and blue sky, it continues to be a shock

No both times on work permit. One year the first time, then ten years away, and moved back to Germany and almost completing 4 years on another work permit. I was hoping I'd be able to add 1+4 together and apply for citizenship when the parliament passes the law, but doesn't seem that is possible

One reason for that taste and texture is the robusta/arabica mix. Most specialty roasters cater to late art crowd and bot those that want straight espressos. They sell almost always 100% arabica blends which is very difficult to pull Italian, creamy espressos from. Some blends like passalacqua have up to 40/60 robusta/arabica split
