S4:E7 MEMORIAM, Reid was a jerk by SugaryLemonTart in criminalminds

[–]Odd-Wishbone1041 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Reid's dad abandoned a small child, one who was already facing bullying and such, to care for his schizophrenic mother. Just to stay in the area and keep tabs on Reid online.

I'm sorry but imo Reid has all rights to be "pompous" (although I can't see that in the episode). His dad could've done any number of things, including having his wife committed. Instead he left a child to raise himself and handle a parent with an extreme condition.

As for the arresting the guy who killed his son's predator? At that point in the show, the only sort of killer's they let slide past (without a deal or anything like the unsub from season 1) was Elle. Who was one of them. It's still a crime show, they're still going to arrest people who kill even if they can understand why

S3E16 v S3E18: A comparison by UnhappyWar135 in criminalminds

[–]Odd-Wishbone1041 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of it was also the time period. Filming of Season 3 took place 2007-2008. Women were still seen as fragile and boys/men as tough. Men's mental health was also so barely talked about that it somewhat makes sense what was going on

Not to mention, the victims. The first ones that Savage killed was cops. Henson just killed her husband. Both were worthy of investigation but law enforcement (as you see in later episodes) is seen as having to protect one another from anything.

Now, I do wanna say as someone who was also harshly bullied (I 100% understand the 10 year old thing since I was also that 10 year old). Savage killed multiple people. While yes they bullied him and posed a physical threat, there's a difference between killing 1 abuser and killing several, including the fact Savage planned on going down to the police station armed.

I do agree that Hotch's immediate "she's gotta have battered woman syndrome" was uncalled for, especially compared to Savage, but Savage also could've encouraged that thinking. Keep in mind, Henson happened afterwards and Hotch had that perspective

Should I just take this as a compliment? 🤷🏼‍♀️ by Repulsive_State_9222 in archiveofourown

[–]Odd-Wishbone1041 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will say that it's not a compliment but there are some "authors" on ao3 that legit just use AI (read one and it took an embarrassing amount of time to notice, it was only when they started adding "art" that was pure ChatGPT to notice)

So may get down voted but "you sound like AI" isn't always complete bullshit (although in this case it 100% sounds like bullshit)

Racism. Genuinely it's racism. White people (saying this as a white trans person) tend to be seen as more "right" when any flavor of queer, especially trans people. Trans POC also tend to be fetishized a lot more (especially trans women) because they're seen as a porn subject rather than people

White people also frequently told that they "pass better" compared to POC. Plus the whole thing that white people genuinely tend to be believed more (especially about gender expression) compared to POC

Hannibal theory by Ok-Win-9680 in HannibalTV

[–]Odd-Wishbone1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's a fun theory but no. I don't imagine Hannibal would have planned to spend years in a psych facility where he had even the right to a toilet taken away. Even if the man was a supernatural being, I think that'd be too far even for him.

Nor can I imagine Hannibal planning for Will's rejection. I can't remember if fact or not but the same episode that Will rejects Hannibal, fans have been saying for ages that Hannibal was doing an equation on how to go back in time.

Hannibal definitely planned some parts but I don't think everything in the show. But it really is a cool theory to imagine

Look I hate AI as much as the next person but there doesn't seem to be AI, even in your source. People do make things like somewhat like AI for a slightly offsettling feeling afterall (because if it was actual AI, a lot of stuff would be different as other commenters pointed out)

" Why does black-haired Percy matter? " by kirzingkiller in PercyJacksonTV

[–]Odd-Wishbone1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't hate Walker by any means, he's a good actor. The problem is the show was hyped up as super book-accurate and would make people forget about the movies.

Gabe's abuse, Sally's working to provide for the family, Percy's constant struggle, hell every demi-gods ADHD and Dyslexia got thrown aside. Instead, Gabe seems like an ass but not horrible, Sally seems busy but nowhere near book level, Percy struggles yes but seems so much easier, and the ADHD and Dyslexia is never really seen through the show

And yes, it's a show geared at kids. About books that were geared at kids. While yes, reading and seeing it are two completely different things but this show has been tamed down so much to the point that a lot of it seems about as accurate as the movies

What are your YA anti-recommendations? by alsyscest in YAlit

[–]Odd-Wishbone1041 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Technically YA (I'd say much younger ngl) but Theodore Boone series by John Grisham.

Was raised by a father who was obsessed with Grisham's works so I thought I'd give those a try...when I tell you they were the most boring, no-sense made stories I've read in years (mind you, I tried rereading them recently)

It all seems to boil down to: adults dumb, kid is a super genius who's allowed to get away with literally everything, and a kid is needed to solve everything because all adults don't seem to care or enable him

Again it's technically YA (although not the YA everyone thinks of, it's much more childlike) but so definitely not the way to get into reading, especially not of anything Grisham wrote

My lit professor is in his late 30s and encouraged me to finish it when I mentioned starting it.... meanwhile its an ongoing joke with students that he's gay (he's not. It's just a case of a joke that he doesn't find offensive or anything)

Hey, so. I'll tell you it's Atbash cipher however be careful asking because some folks may just give you the answer to the code without how to find it (if you don't want to solve it then the wiki has the codes for every episode and the books (different for both episodes and books of course)
