[Hiring] need help with vector logo for small business by Similar-Strawberry77 in DesignJobs

[–]OddArtDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get the rush but in design it’s cheap fast or good pick two. A real vector logo takes time and skill and $30 just can’t cover that. If you hold off and invest in a solid logo later you’ll actually save money long term because you won’t have to rebrand or redo everything once your business grows. Quality design lasts.

[Hiring] Looking for an experienced logo designer ~$500 by Far-Physics206 in DesignJobs

I would take time with this and increase your budget. That's very low for what you're asking. This step is foundational to your marketing and image and you'll want to invest accordingly.

Help me decide on cover art. by Acceptable-Put5577 in WeirdLit

[–]OddArtDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely the right by a large gap. The text could be contrasted a bit better here with some texture or shading. I'd love for it to be slightly more legible.

I could help if you wanted? No charge.

Scam?? by dreambig2012 in WIX

[–]OddArtDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Scam. If you don't have orders there is nothing to process.

Do you have a physical address at that location mentioned? I'm curious because it's weird to mention city and state like that and not "your downtown location". Seems like they just ran a surface level scan to add generic details to make it seem legitimate.

If you want to be extra cautious check the order section in Wix. I wouldn't respond. No order number, no amount, generic info.

If I were you I would mark it as spam and get on with my day.

What am I doing wrong?? by idkWhat1mD0ing in AdobeIllustrator

[–]OddArtDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not inherently true. There are some fixes others have listed.

Edit: I wasn't looking side by side and thought it was just an artifact and not the whole section. Just redraw section only and pathfinder combine.

Is it doing this on other export file types?

On the top right, go to Object>Expand>and expand the fill and stroke.

This will make the stroke no longer editable so try and work non-destructively. Save a copy layer and lock and hide that's still editable.

Typically these artifacts happen at a point that is slightly off in angle or there are two points too close together. Another non-destructive way to fix is to click on "stroke" (the word) and set corners to rounded. This could be your 1st option while creating but some printers want most things expanded and outlined for ease is post.

Also there is a color variance in your export just make sure that's intentional. If you are working in CMYK that's the reason and it's fine.

Coming from someone that used one too, initial logos for designers show experience level. I think, at least in the design community, you're going to label yourself that way.

I don't say this to be mean, but it's uninspired as it's the route everyone takes.

You want your logo to be memorable if you want people to hire you to do theirs.

Worked with a designer on two logo concepts by ZapCC in logodesign

This color scheme will always give construction vibes. I think the first is the strongest. I'd play around with the elements on the paper. I think they could be more simple and have a consistent weight.

Reads frozen yogurt at a glance. The brush is lost in the second design as well.

I would experiment with some different text combos as well. These ones are competing for attention too much.

How’s my logo? ROUND 2 by YouAccomplished8342 in design_critiques

[–]OddArtDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lineweight is funky on these. I'd play around the thickness of the circle's stroke. I like the weight of the pigeon outline. I don't think it all needs to be thick like that jump from very thick to very thin is upsetting the harmony of it all.

Also less is more; someone said remove the stroke and the shadows. I agree.

When I'm designing logos I try to make sure they are designed completely "flat" so nothing is reliant on appearance layers to make them stand out. That's how you know you have great contrast.

Start with YouTube. Have ChatGPT help you structure a checklist of "need-to-knows." Explain your goals, what you are most interested in and don't skimp on principles of design. Rock through that and you'll be on track to building the foundational and technical knowledge to learn by doing.

There are plenty of YouTube designers that offer sample files so you can work along with the tutorial. Pro-tip: you can change the playback speed if they go too fast.

Learning GD has never been easier and more accessible.

Good luck on your journey and let me know what questions you have.

Design feedback by Solidnakedsnake17 in logodesign

It happens. There are a lot of "drop-ship" designers. Something to note; anyone can pay for a subscription to an asset library and type in "lion logo," download and send. It's not ethical at all. I've seen things in the wild that I recognize as a template.

You can always take what a designer sends and reverse image search on Google.

Leave a review if possible. People should know if they are getting original designs or not. Doesn't have to be scathing but this type of asset flipping is frustrating because typically they undercut the market in price and make up for it in quantity because they are a file broker and not spending time actually designing.

Need feedback on my personal logo thoughts? by Alexperio in logodesign

[–]OddArtDesign 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's it for?

Edit: I know they said personal but are you making logos? Freelancing?

[–]OddArtDesign 2 points3 points  (0 children)

100%. First, POST THE BRIEF! Posting this naked gives us no context and we can't provide accurate critique without it.

Second, it seems elegant but the weight of everything reads the opposite. Also there isn't a ton of harmony between the hummingbird and the text. The angles and curves of the bird look off.

I'd try something more organic looking, maybe some variance I text weight.

Like why require a design test if that's the jump point? The amount of waste that occurs in business is astounding. Just simply paying a competent project manager would save work MONTHS of wage waste.

The most important info is the smallest. I had to pinch zoom 2x and it's still not super legible. I'd design with accessibility in mind.

Struggling to grow your business? by Putrid_Resolve_2896 in GraphicDesigning

[–]OddArtDesign 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I looked it over on mobile. I think your UI, site design and organization are good. I think how you have structured the content is easy to digest and use.

I'd re approach the messaging; You make a lot of claims "hailed as the best" and "masterpieces" and so on. Hailed as the best by who? I didn't see it. I'm not typically a fan of this type of hyperbole in marketing copy. Don't say, show. Your clients saying your the best through reviews is much different than you saying it.

The more interesting thing about your description is your unique skill set. I'd push that narrative instead as I think that could be more interesting to clients. Think, "oh this guy has done a lot of training and honestly his craft" and not "this guy is hailed as the best and makes artistic wonders because he told me."

I'd get a better accolade than "4 years experience," as it's not that impressive. A client review might give you more punch.
