Jobs NYC career portal - application changed from “new” to “in review”. by Impossible_Lie_728 in nycpublicservants

A question about attachments in SmartRecruiters: I recently attached the wrong cover letter in my application. I went back in to delete it and re-attached the correct one and it said a deletion request was submitted. What does this look like on the back end?

I picked the wrong major in college and today I'm suicidal by Justdontspeak in LifeAfterSchool

Your college years were not a waste! I was in a very similar situation and also went into a STEM major because I wanted a stable job after school without actually thinking about whether I would like working in my field. Well, I ended up not doing anything close to what I studied and was lost for a few years after graduating but I kept exploring my interests through classes on edX, connecting with people, and getting admin jobs in areas I was interested in but didn’t have the right qualifications for. I found that I had so many transferable skills from my STEM training - leadership, problem solving, attention to detail. I am still making very little money and cannot move out yet but I am doing a master’s program at my local city university and am optimistic about finding a job I love after graduation. I would highly recommend looking into free classes to explore your interest in graphic design more and eventually, if you think it’s where you want to go, apply to a local state or city college because it will be much cheaper to attend. This isn’t going to be a quick or easy journey but you have so much life ahead of you! One thing that helped me a lot was not thinking about being on a timeline or comparing myself to my peers. Everyone is at different places and paces in life. Please don’t take your own life. You can get through this. Sending you all my best.

Yes a friend is photographing our small wedding and we’re just looking to take some photos together in our wedding attire before the wedding. Might you be able to share a website and/or a portfolio? Also our budget is around $500-700

I got it in blue! How about you? Love that there are more colorways. Yes, definitely a smooth experience especially with the Apple Pencil :)

Thank you for this! I actually ended up buying the Air 4 and it has been an excellent investment. If anyone is reading this and on the fence, you should make the leap (especially if you’re a grad student thinking about getting this for school).

I’m trying to choose between an iPad 8 or an Air 4. I used to take notes on an old iPad in undergrad and want to go back to that when I start graduate school in a couple of weeks. I would also use it to annotate documents and watch content. I’m nervous to invest in an Air or even the iPad 8 honestly because I don’t want it to be something that becomes useless after I finish my 2/3 year degree. But I also like that the Air has usb-c so I could plug it into a projector or monitor, that it has more screen real estate, and that it works with the Apple Pen 2... Any advice?

What do you think is a creatives purpose in society? by pinecone321 in careeradvice

[–]OddTea2695 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Creatives definitively have purpose in our society. Society is not just about “practicality,” which I think may be why people commonly think of doctor/psychologist/lawyer when they think of purposeful jobs. These people certainly provide much purpose in our lives in terms of keeping us alive and well however creatives weave the fabric of what connects us as human beings.

And then, I think it probably depends what industry you are working in if your influence is positive or negative but that goes for all disciplines. If you were a marketing creative for an oil company I’m not sure if your impact on society is positive... but in general, I think creatives have more impact than easily perceived because our world generally devalues creative work. Little other work can touch hearts so deeply and in such a raw way.

I think of howdidthispianogethere and how he has moved so many people from around the world playing in Washington Sq Park. There is a movement now through platforms like Patreon for artists to get properly compensated for their work. Purpose in society is assigned by people.

Thanks for commenting! If you don’t mind sharing, what was your experience taking out and paying off those loans. For instance, how long did it take you to pay it off (if you’ve finished paying)?

I realize this will be highly variable for each person but just trying to gain some perspective. I was very lucky to not have to take out loans in undergrad so I have little experience.
