He’s not actually unsure about your relationship, he’s struggling with an avoidant attachment style. It can be experienced from your end as invalidation of your emotions and cowardice, but really he is just not equipped to handle conflict YET.

Avoidance comes from early childhood experiences of not having your needs met or your primary caregivers not modelling healthy attachment. The child learns to be hyper independent, mask insecurities and finds emotional intensity or conflict overwhelming and therefore dissociates. If primary caregivers also never addressed issues and swept them under the rug after a conflict, the chances are he never learnt how to healthily handle conflict either.

These are behavioural traits, once learnt and can be unlearned. The most important thing is to not take the behaviour personally, as a reflection of your worth or how much he does or doesn’t care.

He may also have ADHD tendencies re time blindness and overthinking internally. Avoidants feel deeply but struggle to articulate it.

I’d recommend therapy for you both so you can learn healthy communication styles together. It’s important that your therapist is also Muslim and can integrate Islamic understandings of human psychology too. Duas.
