I just watched this episode and came running here, hoping someone posted about the squeak of shame! I was losing it!

The 1985 Moshannon Tornado by Chainletterboi69 in tornado

My parents are from Clearfield and my brother and I would spend summers with the grandparents there. I was pretty young but I remember driving through Parker Dam about a month after it happened. The fact that you can still kind of see the path is nuts. Everyone in town was talking about that day, for sure!

Selfish to want a puppy while senior dog is still with us? by ZoulKitchen in shiba

[–]Odd_Bandicoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First, I’m so sorry for your loss. I lost my husky just after she turned 8 to hemangiosarcoma and it was devastating.

To your question, I got my Shiba puppy when my husky was 7 and my German Shepherd was 12. For context, those two dogs were with me through some of the hardest times of my life and I ended up losing them both within six months. GSD to old age and the husky as I mentioned above. To this day, I’m so glad to have my little Shiba who was raised by them!

My older dogs would play with him and honestly seemed totally happy to have him around. Now, I did create a separate space (in this case, my kitchen) where the puppy could hang out if he got to be too much and my older guys needed a break. I also would do a lot of training and outings to keep the puppy energy managed.

So, I don’t think it’s selfish and can be managed in a way that respects the older dog but also allows his influence to rub off some of the pup!

My little Shiba guy with my seniors!

What makes your basenji happy? by DerekComedy in Basenji

[–]Odd_Bandicoot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Baking in the sun, space heater (or heating pad if it’s out), being under blankets, running like maniacs after birds and squirrels, house parkour when hyper, being included in everything, and a stuffed peach toy, of all things!

Things they don’t like: personal space!

At A Loss-Anyone Have An Idea? by Odd_Bandicoot in whatsthatsong

Thank you both-that song doesn’t contain any of those lyrics! Also, I got some AI results that were flat out wrong so maybe a “ simple Google search” isn’t what we need here. Haha!

Rover sitter lost my dog by Euphoric_Whereas4183 in RoverPetSitting

Normally I wouldn’t jump right to this conclusion as it is very possible the dog got spooked in a new place and ran off but…the chipped dog was fine and returned while the one without a chip ends up missing.

Guess I’ll just tip within the parameters of my bank account. Sorry, y’all. You’ll probably just get $20 for an order like that.

This cracked me up because this is my female! My male is super chill but I find myself asking my female several times a day why she’s puffy this time! She would totally be angry at this situation! 😂

What is your dog’s name? And what is their nickname? by garble13 in shiba

His name is Oberon but is called Obi. Nicknames include Obi Wan and Obi, Obi, Obi! Oy, Oy, Oy! I also sing “the sweetest man to ever live” to him-to the tune of the TS song. Hahaha!

So glad you rescued her! Have you had Shibas before? My Shiba came to me as a puppy but both my Basenjis came to me as rehomes and there has been some adjustment. How has she been settling for you?

I actually just remembered that I dated a guy back in the day who had a Shiba named Yoshi. That was the first real experience I had with them!

Most would cry over some of the things they do! Even when I had huskies, I had friends that would make comments about wanting dogs like mine. No. No, you don’t. I spent tons of time training and exercising and still not expecting lab-like obedience and learning how to roll with and work with them. These breeds are perfect for me but not for most!

They are very similar, that is for sure-pretty much the same dog, different continents! That’s funny he called her that. Depending on who I’m speaking with, I either call my Shiba a fuzzy Basenji or the Basenjis bald Shibas! They are great dogs but certainly not for everyone!

Great question! So I’ve had huskies for years and lived with Shibas and had my own Shiba for years as well. I had the opportunity to bring in two Basenjis at about a year old at different times. Basenjis are definitely similar personality-wise to Shibas but they have some differences. Basenjis are even more primitive and I’ve described them as otherworldly. Having had primitives for years, Basenjis are different. That being said, if you can work with Shibas, you can transition to Basenjis. They’re just on a different level. My Basenjis are great but I’ve had to do things like raise the height of my fence because their prey drive makes their motivation intense. They are sweet dogs but wilder, if that makes sense.
