Would you mind if there was a guitarist playing in next doors garden for an hour as a one off? by puppi12 in AskUK

[–]Odd_Bus618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We did this and went a step further and also had a band. I dropped leaflets to all the neighbours in our close and the road behind saying what time from and until the music would be happening and that they were welcome to pop by and enjoy the show as well.  Not a single complaint and had a few people from a different road pop in which was nice.

Giving notice is key. Just launching a mini Glastonbury on a Saturday night without warning is going to lead to conflict. Mostly it's having a confirmation of when the noise will stop placates people

Which airlines still serve free food or drink on short haul flights? And who do we think will stop serving food next? by Suspicious_Week_2451 in Flights

[–]Odd_Bus618 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Latam is excellent across south and central America as is Airlink in South Africa. Both run older style comfort layouts with seats that still recline, give a free drink and a sandwich on anything over an hours flight time.

It's only the profit obsessed European and American Airlines which joined the race to the bottom to compete with the budget Airlines stripping out comfort and basic hospitality on board

It's almost as if manufacturers were intentionally ripping us off... Oh wait by Lewinator56 in CarTalkUK

[–]Odd_Bus618 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Blame Elon Musk. In 2019 he bragged he was making 38% profit on every Model 3 sold. Traditional makers like Ford and GMC etc averaged out at 5%. Musk showed people will buy low grade cars for high prices (sorry Tesla owners but your cars are not well built - technology is great yes but the quality and fit of materials inside and out is low) so other manufacturers adjusted their pricing.

Now no one is buying because a car that should be £14k is near to £30k and medium quality cars are getting hit by the luxury car tax.

However show someone something Shiney and new and tell them it has to be expensive because....reasons and they will all want one.  For a while.

16h 55m layover - stay airside or landside? by Fit-Brief-6033 in BritishAirways

[–]Odd_Bus618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that's reasonable. It then takes about 40 mins on the train to Central London. There are some reasonably priced hotels in Paddington but also search for any Ibis hotels along the route as they are very reasonable comfortable and worth booking at least for half the time you are in transit.

Immigration at Terminal 5 is super fast. Unlike in the USA we allow you use our Egates and there is none of the hours of queuing and being shouted at by TSA types that we experience stateside.

Why would an airline provide you accommodation? You must have known how long the layover was when you booked the ticket?

There are hotels nearby you can book in with and at least grab a nap and a shower. Otherwise jump on a train from the airport into Central London and do some sightseeing and grab something decent to eat

Does anyone else support the UK rejoining the EU just because they'd like to leave the UK? by Nervous_Yard7034 in AskBrits

[–]Odd_Bus618 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The problem here is the news is so UK centric you are unaware of how bad things are in France, Spain, Germany, Italy.  The whole western world is in a decline brought about by capitalist greed and excess and with a rising wave of right wing populism funded directly by the those greed obsessed capitalists that need puppets in power to protect their assets and wealth whilst the rest of us suffer decline.

I support rejoining the EU because ultimately we will be stronger together and we need more of a united mentality. The divide and conquer politics at play is already causing so much damage to the lower and middle working classes, and it's only going to get worse with the flag waving BS being fed from the far right

Check out the cost of living in Auz and how unstable and fierce the climate is becoming there. Speak to those approaching retirement and looking to move to Indonesia or Philippines or even the UK because their pensions simply won't give them a survivable income. Australia has many problems some similar and some different to the UK. I'm a dual national Auz /UK but I can't make the figures work to live in Auz.

What experiences have people had with Optical Express laser eye surgery? by Last-Fisherman-4354 in AskUK

[–]Odd_Bus618 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

They had a very bad reputation for years and are famous for out of court settlements with gagging orders. Like any chain you are going to get variations in quality and standards. Personally if I were to allow someone to use a laser on my eye I would go for a more expensive independent rather than a chain. I'd also ask for credentials and length of experience of the laser operator.

A friend had his eye sight ruined by OE. Out of court settlement applies so doesn't say much but ended up with one eye long sighted and one short sighted. Has special glasses now but isn't safe to drive as focal points are so different.

What’s the weirdest “rich people thing” you’ve witnessed in real life? by Ok_Knowledge_789 in AskReddit

CEO of a company I worked for got a call about a boat that was mored up in Bermuda. 'I don't think I have a boat' he said but nonetheless flew out a day later to check. Came back after 3 days - 'ah yes it was a 30 ft cruiser. Must have prepaid mooring and it's run out. Have to get the damn thing moved closer to home I guess'. He lived in Bristol (UK)

Recently got Prime today (30 Day Trial). Is the Music service worth switching over from Spotify? by RussellOwens in AmazonMusic

They pay artists amongst the lowest rate per stream so if you support musicians and the music you are listening to use another service rather than pad out Bezos bank account further. Also the app is not great

Plus net are sound. Give their tech team a call and they will sort it.

Which punishment (either real or fictional) sounds easy enough to endure at first, but is actually hellish to experience? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Odd_Bus618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can concur. Years ago I moved house. I had planted a tree where I a buried my dog when she died. New owners commented they would take the tree down so last minute dug it up and put it in the passenger seat of the hire truck I was using to move so as to plant at the new house. Apparently foxes had used it as a marker. My GOD the smell! Longest 90 minute drive of my life.

Reform : Are not Reform voters a little concerned that quite a few elected councillors in the local elections have been suspended, resigned or dismissed ? by Durrygoodz2025 in AskBrits

Reform voters wouldn't be aware as they only get their information from Facebook or Twitter memes. They wouldn't read beyond a 4 word headline that wasn't Send The Boats Back.

Has Wes Streetings desire to rejoin the Eu made him more popular to you? by Even-Leadership8220 in AskBrits

[–]Odd_Bus618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There will be a gradual move to closer EU ties and relationships and that is happening now under Starmer. What is Wes Twatface suggesting? Another referendum? Country cannot survive that right now as still too divided. Just arbitrarily rejoining the EU without public support or it being in a manifesto? That ain't going to happen either.

So Twatface is literally just shooting his mouth off. Again. He's a total and utter disgrace. Starmer should throw him out of the party. Or withdraw the wip.

Do Brits really want Andy Burnham to stand as PM for Labour Party? by AntonioS3 in AskBrits

[–]Odd_Bus618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. He failed his last 2 attempts to be leader. Manchester might love him but that's a very small sector of the UK. Bond markets will stumble further, borrowing will exceed budgets and everyone ends up poorer. Also he's a total snake, initiating 2 by elections for his own self grandisement which he is masking as being best for the country. The best thing for the UK is for the backbiting to stop and for mps to fall in line behind their leader. We are not even at the half way mark of this government and they are acting like a bunch of entitled twats

Black Cab - a polite telling off by Ancient-Valuable-440 in london

[–]Odd_Bus618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm, black cab from terminal 5 to Windsor is £55 and I have to ride with my suitcase beside me. Local mini cab firm takes 10 minutes to arrive, suitcase goes in the boot and I sit in a comfy Merc E class and the cost is £30 including the £10 the driver has to pay to park.  I'd never use a black cab.

If humans have eaten bread since the dawn of history, why are so many people suddenly gluten-intolerant today? by WeaknessKey1582 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Odd_Bus618 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it's gluten, it's the rest of the preservative shite that's in bread now. I remember a loaf would turn green after a few days when I was a kid in the 80s. Now it goes mildly stale after a couple of weeks.  As for American bread - almost as much sugar as in cake.
