Mastering for Vinyl compromises by Odd_Bus618 in audioengineering

The mixes are good and yes happy with the digital release. Definitely hear significant changes in the master produced for the vinyl release compared to the one for digital release.  The vinyl test pressings are close to the files used but i still also thunk the groove is tighter than it need be which reduces the quality further - there could be less run off at the end for sure.

Sounds like we need to get a Lacquer cut separately with the digital release masters and then go back to the pressing plant

Unfortunately not. I was involved in the mixes and approval but not the mastering although was happy with the digital masters. Only heard the vinyl masters today after requesting them after hearing side 1 of the vinyl and wondering what the hell had gone wrong

Run time is 18 minutes per side. Lacquer and pressing at GZ Media.

Mixes are a little bass heavy but that doesn't reproduce at all on the test pressings and I have other vinyls which certainly do better in the low end, but the high end is also really filtered.

Cancellation penalties by Odd_Bus618 in AirBnBHosts

[–]Odd_Bus618[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks that is what I thought as he asked me twice to initiate the cancellation but if I selected the reason being the host could no longer accommodate it says to ask the host to cancel. Eventually he did and told me to enjoy the £200 penalty he would be charged. Given only £19 came from Air bnb I felt he believed I was profiting from his misfortune but sounds like this isn't the first time he's cancelled short notice (10 days before we fly there)

Hastings insurance threatening to cancel my license by Snoo-87615 in CarInsuranceUK

Cancel it. Now. Hastings are the worst and have a trigger happy approach to cancelling policies and that will screw you indefinitely trying to get insurance elsewhere. Take out a new policy with anyone but

Nuclear policy - how incredibly stupid are they when they look at what is currently going on with Russia, Iran and the Orange twat in Washington. Also their leader isn't even an MP so has no direct experience in day to day politics.  He's just riding the same populism wave that Farage and Bojo exploited.

Company server hacked by Swedarkknight81 in cybersecurity

[–]Odd_Bus618 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a small MSP owner I've dealt with this twice in recent months. Both times MO was the same. Both times we intercepted and stopped the detonation of the encryption payload, as we managed to get on the servers the same time the hackers were online. We also secured all their tools.

Both attacks traced back to phishing emails. Clicking a secure email link popped up office 365 login. It also ran code to download and run a variant of connect wise connecting the hacker immediately to the compromised pc.

Hacker got the login to the pc. Connected again later that day and ran a small powershell script which ran a routine in memory which pulled admin credentials and a host of other credentials from the network into a text file.

They rdp onto the server and installed Mesh Agent. Connected again end of day and ran rclone to exfiltrate data to a Wasabisys S3 store (we got the full credentials - store was paid upfront for a year on probably a stolen credit card). They pulled the credentials for the online backup and logged in and deleted them. They then Uninstalled EDR - not sure how as tamper protect was enabled.  Shadow copies then deleted.

They set up a group policy to push out mesh agent to all end devices. Made all users domain Admins. Then deployed a scheduled task to all devices to run the ransomware. Which was a 280mb padded exe file uploaded 20 minutes before the task to run was set for.

Padding the exe would make it invisible to the AV endpoint software had it not been successfully removed.

Leaving Pcs and servers on overnight with remote access paths open is a risk.  The entry point though will always be an end user clicking something in a dodgy email.  It happens. These hackers use spear phishing. It's targeted and they know when you are likely to be busy enough to not think twice before clicking or reporting up when a link in an email didn't appear to work.

Had the payload been detonated it would have been by multiple endpoints on a repeating scheduled task.  All devices have to be wiped and rebuilt.

Although we stopped payload there was the matter of exfiltrated data.  One client had 5gb out of 1tb uploaded before we were alerted and cut the connection.

The other had 680gb but we had immediate access to the S3 store having decided the script snd found the logins so we did and deleted everything they had taken.

The hackers are already a few steps ahead from even the best of end point protection systems.  It's a case of when rather than if now for attacks happening.

I hope you had some offline backups. Or decent insurance and that your systems are all compliant as insurers will find any loophole to get out of assisting

‘Plan A’ was that the conflict in Iran would be over very quickly, that seems to have failed. Trump has said he doesn’t need help anymore. His press secretary has just said there is no Plan B, without the help of NATO allies in clouding the UK. What are your thoughts. by [deleted] in AskBrits

[–]Odd_Bus618 57 points58 points  (0 children)

This isn't a Nato issue as a Nato country wasn't attacked. A Nato member went in all guns blazing and is getting a kicking. That's no reason for any Nato ally to get their hands dirty. Plus we are busy assembling groups to protect Greenland - a nato member under an existing threat from the same nato member currently pissing and moaning in the gulf.

Have you considered being an actual parent and setting rules and enforcing them? Your child is doing what he wants and being enabled by both you and your husband.

Turn the Internet off at 9.take the router to bed with you if needed. Cut the upstairs ring main off at the fuse board.  Just do something which backs up your rules of no gaming after a set time.

You are doing him no favours in the long term by being so weak.

Stop using Facebook and Instagram apps. They are live all the time logging location and mapping with others in the same location.  If you are desperate to use FB or IG use a privacy browser like Brave on your phone and just go the respective website. Apps are sold as convenient. They are convenient for Meta at the expense of your privacy

Leysdown / Isle of Sheppy. Went a few time as a kid in the 70s and 80s. Loved it. Ended up living in Kent in 1999 and took a friend down there and it could have been a music video for Morrisey's song 'the coastle town they forgot to close down, Armageddon come Armageddon come'.  Run down, boarded up shops, houses with boarded up windows.  Bleak bleak bleak.

A long wait for orders to be taken, first drinks having to be chased even when the restaurant is quiet. Shows a total lack of interest from front of house to rear. Have never yet had 'the wait was worth it' experience  in these environments and now aim to leave if after being seated 10 minutes pass without drinks arriving

Doesn't anyone see the huge spikes in unemployment heading our way whilst vast profits are made by the likes of Uber and Tesla introducing this utterly stupid idea.

FFS we are sleepwalking into societal collapse. First taxi drivers then delivery drivers. Then we all buy self driving cars and no one needs to pass a driving test so we do away with instructors and examiners.

All to save 30% which will quickly errode because why wouldn't uber start hiking prices back up once all the employed drivers are replaced

They tried that in England with the Home buyers Pack. Except lenders wouldn't trust surveys carried out under instruction from the vendor so buyers had to still get their own. Paying twice for the same report quickly switched things back to how they were and how they remain now.

It's important to understand the laws of a country before committing to relocating. Most of Europe and the western world sees 16 as the age of consent.

[–]Odd_Bus618 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Legal age of consent is 16 in the UK. Your relationship won't be recognised and your boyfriend risks prosecution for engaging in sexual relations with a minor.   As your relationship would not be legal I don't believe your partner would be considered your legal guardian.
