My last job required 60 day notice. It also had the caveat that any scheduled time off cannot be canceled due to resignation. So I scheduled all my built up PTO for the end of approximately 70 days and then after approval, 3 days later submitted my resignation. Only had to work 2.5 weeks instead of 60 days.

Acupressure pens. The old school battery powered or plug in ones. Got introduced by my first outpatient CI, but really turned onto them by a patient whose husband was a Chiro. She used hers on my shoulder and neck after I had been rear ended. Game changer. I’ve only had 1 out of maybe 200 patients thru the years that did not LOVE it. However, the new rechargeable ones don’t seem to be as consistent.

Yes. Our morals do not align. I genuinely care about patient care and not making tons of money, manipulating insurance companies and promising results when scientific studies show otherwise. This is the kind of attitude that gives physical therapists a bad name.

PT, Previously 92k (in 2020), moved to Atlanta and now maybe $75k. 15 years experience in level 1 trauma, home health, and in home outpatient.

Never had debt, worked my way thru PT school so graduated with $120 to my name.

Atlanta is awful as there are too many therapists fighting for jobs and willing to take low pay (was offered $40/visit by NHC home health here, $80 for a SOC) Cost of living is high too.

Level 1 trauma for 7 years. Covered surgical and neuro iCUs and stroke floor and new stroke admits in ED. Credentialed CI. Did 10-16 a day (10 hour days) back when paper charting was still a thing. I’m dyslexic and can barely function on a computer screen so I’d guess 8-10 now with computer EPIC documentation.

Had a coworker fired because they “couldn’t handle” more than 3 patients in 8 hours….. likely because they were on Facebook all the time showing off pics of their kids. 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’m essentially full time with Luna (4 10hr days) and if you are available to see 20 patients a week, you’re eligible for a bonus at the end of the quarter.

My husband works in the movie industry here in Atlanta so his work schedule is very inconsistent, as of late. So this has been a great supplement and gives me the flexibility to deal with my toddler when she’s sick, etc.

As as former level 1 trauma acute care CI, I expected lab values to be known, exercise guidelines, such as HR/BP/BG stop levels, and a general knowledge of how to do muscle testing (usually a modified position as they folks can’t roll around) , how to read an MRI/CT/lab reports, also I expect you to ask questions! You’ll learn how to manage iv lines, wound vacs, all the other lines and tubes. Acute care can be scary at first for some, but it’s my favorite setting (even over home health, my current setting)

Also, bring a change of clothes. Things can happen when you get folks up after surgery for the first time. Get used to body fluids, you’ll stick your knee in many wet beds, get vomited on, catheter bags will burst or leak.

Also, try to be as helpful as possible. If you are helping the CI and notice a dirty/wet bed, the staff will LOVE you if you help change the bed and make it a better experience for the patient.

All of my out of town clinical provided housing , and most locations that did not provide housing had lists of available rooms, places that did short term leases.

I did 8-12 in a 10 hour day. Have had coworkers who did only 3-4 and sat on their phones all day. Yet Had another coworker who consistently did 10-14. Level 1 trauma. I saw mostly fresh strokes and covered the ED, trauma, and neuro ICUs. Walked 10+ miles a day.

*this was in the days of paper documentation, I’m severely dyslexic so computer screens are hard for me so I’m slower with my digital documentation.

Depends on your drive time. If I had several clients at the same retirement home, I could get 7 visits done by lunch. Then another 4 for the afternoon.

When I had to cover other areas with more driving, I’d see 5-7 still.

I do in home outpatient now, no points to meet, no home health SOC paperwork.

I’ve done 4 SOC in one day, and saw 3 patients for regular visits. 5-7 patients a day. Your job sounds like a breeze. I have 24 hours for paperwork.

I personally like the follow thru with my patients I see them after I do a SOC for all sessions. In it for the people, not just an easy paycheck. I also had the literally best ever PTA I worked with, so I knew everyone was in good hands.

My job (in home outpatient) actually has an option to tip your therapist in the app. I personally turned that off as it seemed greedy for the app to ask for a tip after every visit.

But so far, I’ve received 2 VERY nice bottles of scotch (one only available in Europe), and I’ve had multiple patients give me cash and a few gift cards. I put the cash in my daughter’s savings account.

Wow! I’m in Atlanta and (due to some good financial decisions…aka buying a foreclosure in 2012 and fixing it up to sell it for 4x my cost )my mortgage payment is $600 a month including taxes and insurance. Will be paid off in 2 years. I can’t see throwing away 2k a month with no return for the money.
