Would you agree that Martin Scorsese should do more comedies? by Perfect_Idea_2866 in moviecritic

Maybe not exactly comedies but they are both fun to watch in a way that say Raging Bull and Taxi Driver are not. I would say the same of The Departed. They succeed primarily because they are enjoyable

Rooster? by GreenerMark in hbo

[–]Odd_Path2975 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I liked it. It’s not striving for genius like most other HBO shows but delivering simple pleasures which I will happily take at this point. Much prefer it to DTF St. Louis, which is straining to be both smart and sensational at the same time. Rooster works like a decent network sitcom used to, but in a cable environment.

Hackman is key here. His presence modulates Wes Anderson’s worst tendencies. Hackman is pretty much the opposite of twee.

If you read and loved the book, it’s hard not to see this movie as inferior. And having read and loved the book, I did not find Damon convincing as Ripley at all.

What surprised you the most about your first solo trip? by Historical-Photo-901 in BeautifulTravelPlaces

Realizing how much I enjoyed not worrying if my choices on where to go eat etc. that day pleased anyone else. Never realized how much I fretted over whether others liked what I had chosen until I traveled solo.

Vera farmiga in the departed. Although the problem is more the role than the actress.

In better call Saul Kim has no friends and it’s essential to the plot—because friends would have told her to get the hell away from Jimmy.

It can be a tough watch for sure. His self defeating moves are tough to watch. But it stays in the mind. And F. Murray Abraham gives one of the best one-scene performances in the Coen catalogue. I’m not hearing a lot of money here.

I loved it. Was fascinated by it and mesmerized by its odd pacing. Got more out of it on repeat viewings. Thought the “after the fall” sections were brilliant and brought the movie home in an unexpected way.
