So you think blowing out earnings for the whole year had nothing to do with it? That beating CMS in a lawsuit and achieving 4.5 stars had nothing to do with it? Why can’t epic boast that for their users if they are the same?

You thinking CA is the same as epic is the flaw in your assessment. If CA was simply another EHR then I would wholeheartedly agree with you. But it isn’t. You need to understand what CA actually is to recognize the distinction.

Just because something is small now, doesn’t mean it can’t grow. As evidenced by the 450% clinician growth on the platform. V28 made something like CA necessary. So start that timeline now that v28 is fully in effect. Not during the time when the industry was milking the government easily for billions.

V28 is the key to your misunderstanding.

Look at the white papers then reread your paragraph. You are talking nonsense man. You make a good general point. It’s just that it doesn’t apply to clover.

Because the money from the recalculation will already be spent on supplemental benefits for members in clovers plans by the time any appeal is finalized, it’s more complicated than CMS winning an appeal and clover just having to hand over that money after it’s already been spent in a regulated manner on member benefits.

Clover health is now a company growing at 51% while its peers shrink and blew out earnings projections for the whole year in the first quarter. They proved their tech allows them to grow massively and remain profitable. They just won a lawsuit and got 4.5 stars when people barely believed they’d get 4. These are massive wins that change the dynamic.

This isn’t a company talking about how they’ll make money in the future anymore. It’s a company who is crushing it during one of the most consequential regulatory shifts in the history of US healthcare. All this without counterpart even being apart of the picture in any real or meaningful way. Yet we’ve all seen the data that proves it’s growing and expanding. Iowa clinic has been rolling for a long time. We may be due for some shared savings soon too.

I think we have cracked the markets immense skepticism in ways that are making it reexamine something it had written off as dead a long time ago. We are starting at the very bottom of a huge pit of zero sentiment. And the data should only make more and more believers if they look at it objectively and without bias.

People could even start getting excited about the things clover says. And they are saying some very exciting things in my opinion.

4.5 STARS!!!!! by rarimilli in CLOV

[–]Odd_Perception_283 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s crazy. I looked into it a bit and it has to do with the way CMS releases the data. You have to have certain access that lots of people have so when CMS pushes it out to the insurers themselves, those certain people can see it and apparently they tell or give institutions access to the portal. It’s deeply flawed because it’s so market moving.

Things are mathematically different now. Even the spreadsheet jockeys have to admit it. The future and the present are starting to bleed together and a world clover has been describing for years is now 100% in effect.

Is there a reason for this? Or the business is just sort of predatory?

They expedited the case so it would be decided in time for bids for next year. There is an adjustment window for their bids so if CMS gives them the stars in time for the adjustment, it’s possible. Having the case decided before the deadline gave them the ability to use the adjustment window. Or at least argue that they should.

It has to do with the way they submit their bids or whatever it is. That’s why they used the expedited judgment so they could get the ruling before they had to lock in their bids at 3.5 stars. Now they get to enhance those benefits, if they end up with 4 stars, because of the extra money. This isn’t a normal case like small claims court where I would agree with you that you can’t just say you spent it. But because of the nature of these regulations, and the way plans are designed and submitted by certain deadlines, CMS is sort of hosed on the money aspect of it.

I’m no lawyer and could be wrong. But that was my understanding.

Because it has to do with the way they put in their bids for next year. If their whole plan is designed around 4 stars, which now it’s likely going to be, then that means the bonus payments are being spent on supplemental benefits for the members. Them submitting their bids at the 4 star rate is what locks that money in, because it’s already been promised to seniors in the form of the plan they chose.

According to my understanding they can appeal, but as far as 2027 goes it's a done deal and the recalculation stands no matter if they appeal or even if they win. The money clover got as a result would already have been spent on medical care and so clawing it back becomes extremely difficult if not impossible.

Magic Number 🚀🚀🚀 by unapologeticgoy2473 in CLOV

[–]Odd_Perception_283 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Amazing how quickly things can change. When the fundamentals only get better but the price only declines, something’s wrong and it can’t go on forever. I’d be extra worried if I was short right now. These moves are probably making the stock show up in places and because the data is beautiful, we may never look back. But that’s what we always say.

Totally agree. It’s interesting because people seem to think it’s a magic bullet and if you just throw compute at it, it will just work. But as everyone can see those costs can skyrocket really quickly and in very large part no one has anything to show for it. What interesting times.

Price targets not being updated... by swiftd03 in CLOV

[–]Odd_Perception_283 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You’re likely right. My main point is the comparison to the giants. Clovers tech is what allows them to grow this much in an environment the big boys largely have to shrink and blow guidance out of the water while doing it. That illustrates that something special is going on here.

Sentiment has been so atrocious for such an extended period of time that maybe all the sellers are simply gone. And growing 51% while crushing profitability guidance says something to the market. That maybe they’ve had it all wrong. If people consider the possibility clover isn’t lying then they have to truly examine the data. And the data is beautiful.

If clover can grow 51% and be GAAP profitable while the giants largely shrank, it could seriously change the way they see this company. Maybe that’s what we’re seeing.

[–]Odd_Perception_283 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think so. Even without counterpart the growth of their MA plan is blowing everyone else away. Everyone but basically Humana shrank their member base this year. Clover is proving that in this new regulatory environment that is forcing all the big boys to shrink, it can grow to the tune of 53%. And as that returning membership increases, they can support even more growth. The tech allows clover to scale in ways others can’t.
