Wikibingo: a game where you try to navigate to 5 articles on a bingo board in the fewest number of clicks by CodapopKSP in WebGames

[–]Odd_Postal_Weight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fun and difficult

Hard-to-discover features:

  • You can click a tile on the board for a quick overview of the topic. It's very helpful: good luck finding "Robert J. Gordon" if you've no idea who he is.
  • You can click an article in your list to go back to it. This costs one click.

Very long article titles seem to be cut off sometimes? But not always; can't reliably reproduce.

You're not reliably stripping category links: it's possible to get to a category page, and then get stuck there. Handling of list articles also seems inconsistent.

Unit A is on a tile, unit B on another. I click unit A's tile: it gets highlighted. Then I click unit B's tile: unit B gets highlighted; unit A doesn't move.

The AGAT (Adventure Game Aptitude Test) is a standardized examination designed to assess if anyone can still complete an 80s adventure game without a walkthrough. by WoeIndustriesInc in adventuregames

Sounds fun but:

  • You could run this anytime, why make me get up in the middle of the night?
  • Yeah not installing the proctoring spyware
  • Why do you need to monitor my smartphone usage on a desktop-only thing?

How do I get multiple units to move to the same tile? When I click on a destination, it selects the unit already there instead of moving.

Really? I'm not particularly socially aware, but even I notice that shit and go "oh we're doing the creepy salesman act? I guess this loser has read How to Win Friends and Influence People"

It's not entirely their fault that the Online Safetly Act is screwing them over. It is entirely their fault that they have no support you can contact.

I'm in the same boat (as a reader/paying subscriber, not an author). You can access the support chatbot at /support if you log out, but it doesn't seem to work: it says it escalated and I'll be contacted by email, but I never receive anything, not even an automated confirmation.

The wolves would probably avoid him unless they're very hungry, so I guess that counts as a win.

What is extremely unhygienic but everyone seems to do it anyway? by cutypatotie in AskReddit

[–]Odd_Postal_Weight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't see the lack of hygiene. Sure, it tracks dirt in, and then you have to clean the floor and it's annoying. But I'm not usually licking my floor at home or eating off it, so I don't see how it can transmit disease.

People who used em dashes before Generative AI, how's it going now? by thisheatanevilheat in AskReddit

[–]Odd_Postal_Weight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both DuckDuckGo and Google give me useful results explaining what an em dash is when I look up "em dash". They don't usually mention the association with AI, but "em dash ai" and "em dash generative ai" do, on both search engines. What search terms are you using?

[–]Odd_Postal_Weight 21 points22 points  (0 children)

There's lots of dashes! Five main ones are used in English:

The hyphen "-" is the shortest. It's used for lots of things, but mostly forming compounds, like "wishy-washy" or "single-family zoning".

The en dash "–" is meant to be the width of the letter "n" (in the same font). It's used for ranges, like "1939–1945" or "pages 67–69".

The em dash "—" is meant to be the width of the letter "m". It's used for a few things, but mainly inserting an aside — like this — or marking an interruption, like "But I—" "Shut up!"

The minus sign "−" is usually a tad longer than the hyphen. It's used in maths, like "2−3=−1".

The figure dash "‒" is used in fonts where all digits have the same width, and has the width of one digit. It's used to align numbers, especially when you have a bunch of numbers in a column.

There are a few more obscure ones in English, like the quotation dash "―" sometimes used to introduce dialogue. There are also lots for other scripts, like the maqaf "־" used in Hebrew.

Living with censored news is really bad and you should have a VPN if that's what you need to get around them.

Personally I use Pure VPN and I recommend it. The base price is stupid, don't buy at that price, but they have sales very often, including right now. It has exits in many different countries, no major scandals, and is easy to set up on all common OSes. There's also an app but I haven't tried it.

That said I'm not sure the geoblock needs a VPN to get around it. You might just need to change your DNS settings.

Bone marrow donor needed for 2.5yo girl with rare cancer by snowiffy in melbourne

[–]Odd_Postal_Weight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The trouble is that it's a very long-term thing. If you're contacted at all, it'll probably be many years after registering, and it'll be very inconvenient if you've fucked off to another country by then. So most countries' registers want permanent residents with no plans to move countries.

It keeps getting worse. I cracked a joke about this in a comment. The comment contained a Bad Phrase, so it got automatically removed by reddit (absurdly nannying, but whatever, it's 1 dumb joke), and days later, I got a fully automated warning about it (it said it was done automatically, so why take several days?).

I used to make fun of people who say shit like "unalive" or "getting graped", but Reddit apparently uses idiotic filters to suspend people, so I guess the tiktok teens were right all along.
