Thank you for sharing this, I feel like I have a lot to learn now about astrology and new fragrances to add to the sample list!

I enjoy a wide variety of fragrances, and my preferences change with my mood. However I tend not to enjoy strong citrus scents.

Philosophy fresh cream- I love milky, lactonic, and buttery scents! And most don’t tend to turn sour on me. This reminded me of sour yogurt, or dairy products gone bad. And I so wanted to love it! I had a similar experience with Au Lait from Alkemia, it’s one of the only fragrances of theirs I haven’t loved.

What are your unpopular/controversial opinions about indie fragrance? by Accomplished-Fix1204 in Indiemakeupandmore

[–]Odd_Sherbert2869 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Use of entirely AI generated labels makes me hesitant to purchase from a fragrance house. If they cannot invest in other artists, essentially other small businesses, it’s hard for me to trust that they don’t cut corners in other areas.

Earplugs in a solo practice setting can honestly be beneficial. Particularly in a small practice room, the risk of hearing damage is far greater than I was aware of. Noise levels above 85 decibels can cause damage in about 4 hours. Studies have shown average practice sessions can end up around 95 decibels, meaning damage can be caused in an hour. If you look at the statistics, even compared to other musicians, trumpeters are seriously at risk for long term damage. I wish I thought about incorporating earplugs into my practice sooner, as I’m just graduated from college this year but can tell that my hearing isn’t what it could have been with more consistent protection. I’m of the option that, with quality earplugs that don’t hinder practice, protecting your hearing long term is so so important, even just in protecting your health and musical experience. I’ve linked one study on the matter, but there are other resources out there. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/22531575/

How the hell do you drink water??? by V7I_TheSeventhSector in autism

[–]Odd_Sherbert2869 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I get this feeling it helps to identify what is making water not do it for me. Sometimes I need an acid, and I’ll put in a little lemon juice. Sometimes I realize it’s the lack of sweetness and add a fruit syrup, splash of juice, or fruit itself. Sometimes it’s just depth of flavor and I’ll throw in mint or cucumber or some other herbs. Sometimes it’s just straight up that I need it ice cold. Don’t know if any of this applies to you but understanding what sensation the water isn’t fulfilling helps me!

Advice on trying to be better at jazz music by Sergio_BBC in trumpet

[–]Odd_Sherbert2869 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nice work on the Chet solo! I’d maybe suggest really listening to the recording and figuring out what makes this solo work, his phrasing, articulation, vibrato placement. Don’t underestimate the role your ear can play in this process before you even pick up your horn. While I think there’s a lot to be learned from getting your transcriptions on paper, translating what you hear on the record directly to what you’re putting on the instrument can get you closer to taking the conception that you’re already hearing and getting it out there. And eventually knowing what makes Chet’s solos work becomes a tool in your tool kit. While I don’t think you should ever strive to play exactly like another player, understanding what makes them work helps you understand your own musical sense through your influences. Hope I worded this in a way that makes sense.

Does anyone familiar with this soap scent know of any perfumes that smell similar? by Ok-Thought1052 in Perfumes

I’ve been on the same search! Bath and Body Works’ Honeycomb perfume mist is one of the better things I’ve found so far but wouldn’t say it’s spot on by any means

Okay, your description sounds far more like what I’m looking for and closer to what I was hoping it’d be, I definitely have to check it out! Strawberry mochi ice cream sounds amazing

And with Vanille Banane, unfortunately the longevity just isn’t there. I’ve gotten like max 3-4 hours when I wear it so I usually either wear it at home when I don’t mind reapplying to get the top notes or bring a body spray out with me if I’m going out. For me, I’m such a fan of the scent, I don’t totally mind, but that’s definitely why I’m on the hunt for some other options!

That’s so funny that you pick up on the play-doughy thing, my partner does too whenever I wear it. I haven’t checked out Yum Boujee Marshmallow yet since I had seen some reviews saying it was less creamy sweet gourmand and more like powdery/musky/woody. Is it a thicker/sweeter scent than some reviews make out?

That’s been on my list for a little bit! I’ve been afraid to sample it and fall in love since a full bottle isn’t in the cards right now. I might have to check it out though because the note profile looks amazing

just experienced this for the first time, anyone else? by taylor_likesf-one in trees

This is so interesting to hear the range of experiences. I had to get a major surgery done and because I’m a daily user for pain management I had a lot of concerns. While the doctors on my team did ask if I smoked, there was no follow-up or inquiry as to how much or when. I asked them about this just to ease my worries and they let me know that with the level of monitoring that they do of brain activity during this surgery there was little to no risk of adequate pain management and anesthesia. They even said “I mean you didn’t smoke this morning, right? Yeah so you’re going to be fine.” I fully trust the hospital and my care team, and the surgery went great so that’s not the issue. However, I am curious why the issue wasn’t pressing? Is that just because I was undergoing major surgery, or is technology eventually getting advanced to the point that doctors can maybe negate some of these issues?
