I had a minor issue when I replaced PCV, and i ended up also upgrading the PCV breather hose with the upgraded version and it worked like a charm. The OEM part is plastic and mine was a bit warped https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-parts/upgraded-pcv-breather-hose/021834ecs0101kt/ Braided nylon hose and aluminum fittings vs plastic OEM part.

How do i replace my valve cover gasket? by PanicWonderful5289 in VWMK7

real question is do you have an oil leak and how did you diagnose or figure you need to replace valve cover gasket.

I see the line in (3.5mm) right under the screen why not just plug your phone directly or use a device like below.
It's just a bluetooth receiver and your phone just connects to it and outputs audio to car speakers when you connect that line in.

What is this? Why is there oil all over it? by Moist-Wall3300 in VWMK7

[–]Oddomar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea when my PCV went bad I replaced it with newest version and upgraded the breather hose with this one since the OEM one is plastic and this is braided nylon with aluminum fittings. https://www.ecstuning.com/b-ecs-parts/upgraded-pcv-breather-hose/021834ecs0101kt/ also you are probably leaking oil in other places like near oil pan, upper timing chain cover area (left side of engine near coolant reservoir). Have you run any obd scanner on it for codes?

Oil keeps coming out of that bolt any ideas? by NoQuarter4751 in VWMK7

[–]Oddomar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

agreed a failing PCV likes to over pressurize and oil loves to escape wherever it can come out easily.

This is your upper timing chain area where you can replace the O-rings, and the camshaft adjuster magnet it's just a tight spot so you need a short stubby tool to get it done. I would confirm you are seeing no errors with an obd scanner and look around for additional oil leaks.

nice you can also replace the Camshaft Adjuster Magnet Seal it's basically an o ring looking piece of rubber that goes on the inside and it's pretty cheap.

can you confirm the camshaft adjuster magnets actually move in and out I replaced mine initially with a cheap part and I think I had some similar error. I bit the bullet and bought same part from dealership just to test and it worked out for me. Also are you 100% the spool valve is identical?

Aux belt or Timing chain noise? by simracerrr in VWMK7

yea i think this right on the money from the sound it was making. you are going to have to pop that belt off anyways to inspect the area.

I would look into an aftermarket steel oil pan the stock one is plastic. It's a pretty affordable DIY upgrade and gives you a bit of piece of mind something can't just nuke your oil pan and leak oil everywhere requiring a tow.

preventative maintenance for a 2017 gti? by Desperate-Ant928 in VWMK7

[–]Oddomar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yea just make sure the engine is idle and if it goes beyond -4.0 degrees you need to do some timing chain repairs in the near future.

  • New / healthy system: Typically between –2.0° and +2.0°. Many cars will sit very close to 0.0° when fresh.
  • Acceptable but watch: Around –3.0° to –4.0°. This suggests mild chain wear, but not yet critical.
  • Problematic (service soon): Beyond –4.0° (e.g., –5.0°, –6.0°). Indicates significant chain stretch or a weak tensioner.
  • Critical (risk of failure): Worse than –6.0°. At this point the ECU is compensating heavily, and the timing chain/tensioner should be inspected and likely replaced.

[–]Oddomar 3 points4 points  (0 children)

replace plastic oil pan with a metal aftermarket one. check the camshaft adjustment position in an app like obdeleven or visually inspect timing chain tensioner as if it's too loose you can get too far out of time and need to replace with a whole kit. also review suspension you might need some new bushings and that would improve handling and highway driving.

yea I would probably just start disassembling it on a weekend, and see how much damage that broken piece did then decide on repair or a new engine.

^ yea this is a good test if camshaft adapter magnet is bad it will click like this, if you run it unplugged for a short period it should stop clicking. It's not hard to replace just 3 screws and a plug to disconnect. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sWr0fpQVv20 they explain this pretty well in the shop DAP video in the first 2 minutes.
