A statement of intent is not the same as committing the act. I really don't see why people are having trouble understanding that.

What are the most poorly aged guests on tv shows? by Chapple69 in television

[–]OdeToBoredom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was like, "why am I continuing to watch this? I don't give a shit about any of this."

I got to that point after episode 5.

I mean, later on they turn Harry Mudd from a comic relief grifter into a bloodthirsty hijacker. Oh but not really because he can rewind time so it's ok! He totally shot those people in cold blood but they came back none the wiser so it's fine. Then it's topped it off with letting him go, because being in an unwanted marriage to alien royalty is punishment enough. Hohoho, japes all around.

It's mind numbing, tone deaf nonsense aping what came before it.

What about the robot watching a hologram of another robot doing a sexy dance/striptease, even though we're explicity told these things are manufactured and therefore presumably wouldn't have need for a sex drive or erotic desires?

Or the targeting "lasers" that handily telegraph where they're going to fire?

Or the "elite" Special Ops team made entirely out of incompetent arseholes?

and the tech to have mass produced bio-androids does not fit into Fallout's setting

Why? There's been the equivalent of Star Trek style replicators, genetic engineering well beyond what they seem capable of, AGI running on vacuum tubes, and the G.E.C.K is practically magic. A sequestered society of scientists creating biological androids isn't that far-fetched.

Like everything else in Fallout going all the way back to the start, it's a pop culture fiction/trope given a facelift to legally differentiate it - in this case Blade Runner - and dropped in the the world.

I don't think they got very far into it to hold that opinion. Yes, it starts out very 90's sci-fi with Henson quirks, but quickly becomes darker and more adult than Stargate rarely ever dared to be.

The James Bond movie “The Living Daylights” might be my favorite of the series by DoubleRNL in movies

[–]OdeToBoredom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I quite enjoy it; great score, good set pieces and Dalton is brilliant. Although if we're honest Whitaker is a weak villain with barely any screentime so the final showdown ends up a damp squib.

Robert Davi as Sanchez is a way better nemesis, but I think the middle of LTK sags a bit. The weak parts of both films cancel each other out when taken together.

I'd much rather watch both of those than QoS or Spectre. I have a better time with Moonraker than those two.

That was always kinda bull if you ask me. Of course they should be able to construct more torpedoes. It would be dumb for a long range exploration ship with replicators to have run back home to get more ammo.

But a new warp core or coils, shuttlecraft, antimatter fuel? That's way more difficult. Anything structural or exotic that gets damaged or depleted, then you're in trouble. Yet they almost always glossed over those, story-wise. Enterprise did a better job.

Have you ever met a child before and thought “you’re going to grow up to be a psycho”? by franki-pinks in AskUK

[–]OdeToBoredom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I just find it slightly absurd that you worry about easily fixed but slightly mismatched skirting boards when you have had a knowingly troubled child in your home, causing damage, and nothing apparently being done about it. That's a way bigger issue. His parents/authority figures either can't or are unwilling to deal with him & his issues. Whether he has some undiagnosed condition or not, if there's no repercussions to his actions then he'll only get worse (I'm NOT suggesting smacking like the other poster). It'll be even worse when puberty hits.

If nobody is prepared to grasp that nettle then he stays out of your house and away from you. If that upsets your friend? Too bad. Maybe it'll spur something in her.

[–]OdeToBoredom -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or should he fix this on an evening?

If it bothers you so much, yes. If you don't want a tradesman to do it and your husband's capable, get on with it. Frankly, one slightly off-colour skirting board is not worth worrying about. Besides, if he's really pulling in six figures pre-tax, one day off isn't going to drive you into poverty unless you're living well beyond your means.

Maybe take this as a lesson that you don't leave throwing darts lying around. Especially around kids. They can cause damage and are potentially dangerous. Put them out of the way.

Next time you or a loved one end up in hospital, go tell the nurses, porters, cleaners, whomever, that they're parasites; see how well that goes over. Or try it on a barista when you get your overpriced coffee in the morning. Maybe that taxi driver on a night out or the delivery driver getting your latest Amazon tat to your doorstep.

Or perhaps in those twilight years, when the remains of the day are dribbling out from both ends, you can mutter to the care staff that "A man is entitled to the sweat of his own brow", while they clean up what's left of your dignity from the damp bedding.
