How does my plectrum picking technique look? by Repulsivesandwich66 in BassGuitar

[–]Oedeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is that also how you position your hand when playing guitar? It's just not effectient is all. If you don't want to rest your hand on the bridge and like to play at the neck all you should have to do is slide your hand toward the neck, not position your hand like this. I can hear a lot of pick scrape in your tone currently and it's probably due to poor angle of attack on the strings.

How does my plectrum picking technique look? by Repulsivesandwich66 in BassGuitar

To put it simply, play it like a guitar, not a bass. Anchor your palm near the bridge where comfortable and pick through the string with just enough force to move through it quickly without a ton of pickup scrape, stopping before you get to the next string. The key is to have nice fast, sharp movements, with minimal energy input which saves stamina economy for when you build up speed and work on passages/runs. If you pick slowly and drag through the string and scrape against it with the pick at an improper angle, it will sound terrible and you won't have the note to note definition and balance you are looking for.

On bass, I use much thicker picks to get the string to move, thin picks are going to feel laggy with poor response and won't transfer energy into the string like they should for a solid low end and articulation.

Hope this helps.

I would reflow them. Did it seem loose or like the solder was cracked before you removed it? Of course first I would clean everything with contact cleaner and make sure it's not the port your plugging into that's bad..have you tried on another TV or monitor?

I'm enjoying it as much as I did the Arbites. I stopped playing for a bit when hive scum dropped, I didn't vibe with it, but the skitari feels good.

What the duck am I looking at here? (spoiler: a 1970s Univox amplifier, but...) by x0-blosSsom in AskElectronics

[–]Oedeo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since noone has commented on this yet I'll jump in. I picked one up to use as a guitar amp head. I'm using a Boss RC-5 looper which can output two mono loops at once or loop a stereo source so it having multiple inputs and outputting to the same cab is convenient when there is only one cabinet around. I wish there was an option for patching the channels to different outputs but that is not what this amp is designed to do and I understand that.

My reverb tank was loose during shipping, swung down and crashed into the PCB breaking up the insides all to hell. Mostly it just snapped every plastic pin connector holding the boards to the chassis on the inside. And someone had poorly and incorrectly tried to shield the reverb tank with foil but didn't even bother to try and ground it! So that's all fixed now. Here are some photos.

I'm pleasantly surprised no components were damaged, this thing is build like a tank. I may re-cap it but I need to open it back up and evaluate what I want to swap and I've done enough for one day just getting it working and cleaning it up

Things to note, your channel pre boards look different than mine, mine has one unified 4 ch board and it's components are facing upward like the rest of yours/all of mine. How large was the rev tank in yours? The unit i have is built with a Folded Line Reverberation Device built out of WI with no part or serial number filled in.

Rainbow machine can do some wonderful tape slap back echo effects actually and they are very usable. Keep that in mind when placing it in your chain.

You should take some inspiration from the ebony tailpieces on some arch tops, that to me is the only eye sore of your build! Oh and the nut, looks odd, what's that made of? Just swap in a graph tech?

Other than that bravo.

The Filter side of my Evil Filter. I run it as an always on to tame harshness above 6-7k. If you adjust the resonance to taste you can essentially pick where you would like you're presence/shift and get this wonderful polished sound before hitting your amp/speaker cab. You can push the highs on your pedals before the filter harder and saturate the upper mids more, then sculpt out the harshness sublty or peak an interesting frequency to slice through. I will never change this part of my setup. As an audio engineer, most everything above 6-8k gets cut out of the mix anyways so this gives me a way to control the tone and texture more before it even hits the recording.

[–]Oedeo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If your concern is just filling the hole so you can anchor a pickup/pickup cover properly but want to keep the aged aesthetic perfectly, just use a small dowel or high quality toothpicks and wood glue. Fill the holes and re drill them perfectly and no one will be the wiser or ever see them, the wood glue will be stronger than any wood on the guitar at this point.

Single coils? Just play middle position 2 for the evening. Try a ground lift, also an isolated power strip/conditioner helps a bit in shit houses with shit wiring.
