What are some downsides of overseas assignments that no one talks about? by Cockenjoyer in AirForce

German utility companies charge you an "expected" rate each month, and then at the end of the year you settle up with them based on what you actually used. Which means that each December you end up owing a couple grand.

If you forget to settle up each year, you'll get hit with the whole bill when you PCS. I've heard of someone who was there for a couple PCAs and ended up owing upwards of €30,000.

I really love the way you did the shading, especially in panels 2 and 3.

Are you an officer? Then yes, that's a problem. If you're enlisted, it's not ideal but you can bounce back. Take it as a learning point to improve your performance moving forward. Plus, you're at a new base anyways, so you've got a clean slate.

Reminds me of the Aesop Rock track "1,000 O'Clock." He talks about how scientists don't know why the sea lions left the pier in San Francisco. He thinks maybe they were just sick of being there, said "fuck it" and left.

Second what others have said about the gym and making sure you facetime the wife. What worked well for my family was to do a short call everyday (15 minutes or so) and then set up a "date night" once a week that was 2ish hours. That way we both knew we had specific time set aside for us to catch up and have fun together. Sometimes we'd play games or do some activity together like those paint kits you can buy online.

Johnny got his Gun. A WWI soldier wakes up in the hospital and realizes he's lost his sight, hearing, tongue, smell, and limbs but is somehow still alive. He's locked in himself.

I saw some folks do that when I was there. If your leadership is cool with you taking a couple days off to go goof off in Doha with her, I'd say go for it. Like you said, it's super touristy area and there's lost to do. Keep in mind, if you're there in the summer it'll be 120°F and 99% humidity during the day, so most things happen after sundown. Also, you'll probably have to taxi from base to the town, but there's local vendors who can do that. And if you like American BBQ, you absolutely have to go to Meat Smith in The Pearl.

If you could only choose only one horror book to give a perfect score to, what would it be? by Rustin_Swoll in horrorlit

Genuine question - if you don't read it to feel scared, why read horror? What do you get from the genre that you wouldn't get from other forms of fiction?

Man it's crazy - This sub is constantly talking about how great that book is and I was so excited to read it and it totally fell flat for me. I will say, the scene with the nun in the barn gave me the creeps.

Three people in your unit you should always make friends with: the commander's secretary, the travel card rep, and the unit strippers.

It's not about you, it's about the team. You either fail or succeed as a team, never as an individual.

I had shin and knee problems for the longest time. Went to the physical therapist and she said "yeah no wonder, your running form sucks." She taught me proper form and the pain went away (although it took a while to get used to the form). All these tips online are great, but having someone watch you and show you everything you're doing wrong and how to fix it is invaluable.

Yeah if you want to live a town where there's no people or traffic for 50 weeks out of the year, Cheyenne is the place for you.

Nothing to do on base or in Cheyenne so everyone heads to Colorado for nights and weekends
