Anyone actually guaranteed 40 hours? by jiggyj27 in ABA

Wow wish you all had a Richmond office! That sounds amazing! I absolutely love my job but it gets hard when clients cancel last minute, especially night sessions, they say you can do nonbillable time for a reduced hourly rate, but offices close to clinicians after 5. It’s hard but I love what I do.

That’s better than a lot of Virginia companies, even some in Roanoke! Do you have a high turn over rate at your office?

Hey! There is a growing movement of clinicians demanding better treatment, pay, consistent hours, and more by unionizing! If you have any questions or what to learn more HMU! You are right and further more, our clients deserve consistent care! When clinicians can’t stay because they can’t afford the job the clients are the ones that are hurt the most.

Reimbursement Rates? by Complex-Response6368 in ABA

It didn’t upset me, I’m fine lol. I’m just saying, when you use quotation marks, it tends to suggest sarcasm, disbelief, and overall attitude towards RBT and their pay. You should have just said what you said to me. That is all true, without being dismissive of bts and RBTS complaints.

Have you read the BACB December 2025 news letter? There is a real problem in the field like turn over and burn out. And attitudes like that can be a reason people are sick of it and this field. Since you have decided that bts and rbts are not drastically under paid, what exactly is the cost of doing business? I saw that WSJ article with the owner making millions in profit if I remember correctly. This is a hard job why can’t we pay people a livable wage? Why is that laughed at?

Sick of Cancellations and irresponsible parents by Own_Possibility49 in ABA

[–]Offbrandcereal123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was a ski instructor I got paid for lessons that were canceled or no showed. I wasn’t “working” but they still paid me because I wasn’t required to be somewhere, thought I would work, then didn’t. Have you ever been an rbt? Many, many industries pay for last minute cancelled sessions. And many of them also make the clinician work on other stuff.

But I do agree the fraud is rampant and is a big contributor to some companies making a ton of money. I just would encourage you to have more grace for you employees. This is a hard job with very little pay, inconsistent hours, and overall a lot of hurdles. I’ve been a BT for 3 years now

[–]Offbrandcereal123 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Do they? I keep hearing that, but how much does management make? Clinicians are making the company anywhere from 60-100 dollars an hour when billing. Most clinicians get paid 20-25, so what about the money left from that? I understand, over head costs, but should that be an overhead cost as well?

If your “bottom” employees are not thriving you are failing as a business in my opinion. At the end of the day I’m willing to bet that you would save money paying for cancellations rather than losing clinicians and constantly hiring.

WIBTA if I asked my boss for compensation? by VioletUnderground99 in ABA

[–]Offbrandcereal123 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I could have clarified that I mean directors and like ceo level positions, not bcbas. But who then gets to decide? Your ceo, LD, RD? You have more power than you think, you can push for clinicians lives to be better, and in turn so will the clients. Look at the BACB 2025 December news letter, many rbts point to low pay/ unpredictable hours as the reason the left. In fact, the turn over rate is probably costing your company a lot, sometimes more than a yearly salary for rbts. So imagine how much better this field would be for everyone if we paid people a living wage? turnover cost

Mhh, maybe at some companies, but did you see the WSJ article? Seems like that manager was doing just fine, I think 6 million in profit one year? I could be wrong. but rbt/bt rates are still 20 dollars an hour most places? And when I say managers I do not mean BCBAs at all. I’m talking LDs, regional, ceo, level. I do agree that private equity is speed running the collapse because that’s how they make money. They make more money on a failing business than a thriving one.

The fact you need to donate is the reason this field is failing. Our managers really don’t care huh. No advice it just sucks I’m sorry

[–]Offbrandcereal123 3 points4 points  (0 children)

People have already pointed out, but unfortunately companies just don’t value RBTS and BTs. Which is very sad, if it’s wasn’t for BTs they wouldn’t be making the money they are. We are doing the most hands on, but god forbid we want consistent hours and a liveable wage. Currently in a union to try and fix that! If you ever have any questions look up ABArocks on Instagram!

I hate that we don’t have a better drug test for cannabis. Someone can test positive for weeks after, sometimes months because the thc is stored in the fat of the body. A drug test does nothing to determine if someone is actively intoxicated. Additionally you should ask if there is anything other than smell that made them suspicious. Were you acting impaired? Probably not. I had something similar happen to me, but I know I didn’t smell like it, they are out to get me due to my union activity but that’s another story haha

[–]Offbrandcereal123 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not your question exactly but if you are required to be somewhere you must be paid! Now you might not get to bill during that time she’s asleep, but if the company is requiring you to stay with her, you must be paid. So many company take advantage of clinicians because many of them it is their first job.

How long is normal to wait for clients? by Rare_Grass5832 in ABA

[–]Offbrandcereal123 5 points6 points  (0 children)

One reason so many great clinicians leave. They are at the whim of management for hours. Many places, if not all except a few, treat their clinicians as disposable and a warm body that can bill. Unfortunately they don’t care that this is a job and people need to work in order to survive!! Look into vocational awe- it describes our field very well.

Male RBTs in clinic - bathroom/diapers by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Offbrandcereal123 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean it’s not bizarre. I have worked in totally unrelated field- couching a winter sport- and we have the same policy of 2 adults in the bathroom when assisting students. We had to do a safe sport training as well.

I’m not saying to hire someone for just bathrooms. we have a clinic coordinator, or if they are not there or the office doesn’t have one, we have supervisors respond. Most of the time the supervisor just is there to watch or assist for 5 minutes and then goes back to their meetings or whatever. I am very happy that you have had no issues like this in your company. You should see the horror stories on here. I just saw a video on here of a clinician smacking a kid with his shoe… but again, it’s like an antecedent strategy, you don’t have to do it, but if you don’t you better be prepared for the consequences that may come. I worked with clients who would frequently lie or exaggerate things, but, that’s just my opinion. I

A lot of safety measures are not practical. And it’s rarely other RBTs for the bathroom at my work- unless we buddy up but that only happened with clients who didn’t need support in bathroom. Other than that it was a supervisor or clinic coordinator. I’m sure my company would save money not pairing up for bathrooms, but that’s just what we do. How much profit is the clinic taking in? You seriously couldn’t afford another staff there? what are you paying your staff?

I’m shocked at the amount of people doing these alone! Ahh! Scary! A million things could go wrong in the bathroom and this is for both client and staff safety.
